Do you have to have been christened a catholic in order to marry in a catholic chucrh? I was not christened but my partner was in a C of E church, thanks

The Catholic or CoE won't marry you but the United Reform almost certainly will. Just don't tell them you aren't Christened.

What is the difference between a Latin catholic church and an Anglo-Saxon catholic church?
All Hallows Church, Sutton on the Forest, Yorkshire

I mean they are all Catholics
But I doubt that American Catholics are any thing like the Catholics in Italy
What is different?

In fact the essence of Catholicism and the essence of the Mass are the same throughout the world. Any Catholic can attend Mass anywhere in the world, and know exactly what is going on at every moment. The language may be different and the music may be different, but the Mass is universal. That kind of unity is what Jesus Christ was speaking of when He voiced His divine will "that they all may be one". And that is why His Church, in its earliest years, began calling itself The Catholic Church, meaning the universal Church.

400,000 Anglo Catholics (a branch of the Anglican Church) have petitioned to join the Catholic Church?
All Saints Church, Newton on Ouse, Yorkshire

Is this:
a) Terrific News!
b) Horrible News!
c) ...I don't care!

And why?
The reason they need to 'petition' is that whole church communities are joining all at once. This means that everything from the buildings to the pastors to the people will be joining. It's like a business merger so it takes a lot of planning.

Pastor Billy says: please post your source this is great news alleluia!!! It's been a long 400 years being separated brethren and it has been my opinion always it would be the first to protest who would return to unity with the mother Church.

where do gay people fit into the church? Anglo catholic or evangelical?
St Helen's Parish Church Hemsworth West Yorkshire

Unmarried homosexual and heterosexual people stand right next to married people in Church.

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

Here is the text of the document, On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons (1986): http://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_df 86ho.htm

Should i be Church of Enfland (Anglo-Catholic) Or Roman Catholic ?
Wilson Mausoleum and All Saints' Church Crofton West Yorkshire

First of all, let me dispell any myths that Catholics aren't Christian. They don't worship the Pope or any of that ridiculous stuff. Whether or not their reliance on the saints is idolatrous is up for debate, but they certainly don't worship the Pope.

I personally would say that the Roman Catholic Church is a little more authentic, insofar as the Church of England was formed not because of a genuine doctrine revolution like the Protestant Reformation, but because the English King wanted to be the head of the Church himself instead of having the Pope running the churches in England. However, the Church of England these days is more liberal and laid back, especially about issues like homosexuality.

So if you're looking for a liberal church, the Church of England might be your better bet. However if you're looking for more conservative orthodoxy, the Catholic Church has more of that.

As a Russianist, I think I should probably point out that this website isn’t that of the Communist pravda (which still exists, is still communist, and has a website at www.gazeta-pravda.ru) but an on-line only publication with the same name, that isn’t communist (and doesnt’ really have any political orientation as such, beyond a taste for general sensationalism and love of conspiracy theories) that was set up in the late 1990s – I think by former staff of the paper. I can only presume that they chose the name (and logo) as an attempt at false representation (of a kind that was fairly common in the Russian media in the 1990s/early 2000s). It doesn’t have any print equivalent; and I sometimes wonder even if it is a professional publication, rather than a hobby of a Russian-speaker, an English-speaker and a Portuguese-speaker.
