You can sing whatever you want. Being Catholic has nothing to do with imposing rules on non-Catholics. One of the most important things a Catholic can do is to love their neighbours as themselves. So sing, sing and sing.
www.LordMovie.com Watch this amazing video and pray with mother mary for peace and love in your heart. Specially on this terrible days when human ...
I used to sing this version in Catholic Church. The chorus went something like:
"Ave, Ave, Ave Maria - Ave, Ave, Ave, Regina."
Is anyone familiar with this version (the verses are mostly in english)
If so do you have the details about it?
I actually found it myself =)
its called Salve Regina or (Hail Hail Holy Queen in English)
I'm familiar with only what I presume are the two best known ones.

"Ave Maria" is the Catholic "Hail Mary" prayer in Latin:
Ave Maria, gratia plena
Hail Mary, full of grace
Dominus tecum
The Lord is with thee
Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Blessed art thou among women
Et benedictus fructus ventris tuae, Jesus.
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Ave Maria, Mater Dei,
Holy Mary, mother of God,
Ora ora pro nobis peccatoribus
pray for us sinners
Nunc et in hora mortis nostrae,
now and at the hour of our death,
Amen.
Franz Schubert's version is the most popular.
With love in Christ.
Ok, I am getting married in a catholic church (fiance is catholic) on May 2nd. I am trying to pic the music for the ceremony and having a little trouble picking, also not sure how many songs I will need. I already know we will be playing Ave Maria for when I give the bouqet of flowers to Mary. And I don't think our church is to strict considering they are not making me convert to get married in the church. So any ideas I would greatly appreciate.
i am plan on using the traditional wedding music not like anything like mirah carey or anything like that.
I would talk with the music coordinator at the church. Catholic church's are pretty strict about the music that you can have at your wedding. They generally don't let you pick just whatever you want. There's also things to consider like what the church can play, they have to buy the rights to the music that they can play in the church so you usually have to choose from what they have. We met with the church music director and he walked us through every part of the ceremony and gave us a ton of suggestions for songs for each part, they should definately be doing that with you. Also I know the different dioceases have different rules, but as far as I know in our area, they don't allow you to present flowers to Mary (It has to do with the whole idolizing a statue and not what the statue represents, which our bishop has cracked down on) so I would make sure that you're going to be allowed to do that in the first place. I'm really surprised that the priest has not gone over all of this with you already, ours told us right off the bat that we were going to have to meet with the music director to pick all of the allowed music! If I were you I'd call the church asap and ask to speak with the music director so you don't get your heart too set on any particular songs, only to be told you can't have them. And I would also ask your future husband what he wants for songs seeing as he's the Catholic one he might have some faovrites that he would like included! Good Luck!
OK, I was raised catholic up until my parents divorce when I was 5. My mom had already forked out some pretty good dough for a legal divorce and she didn't see any reason to basically have to go through another one just for the church (annulment) and we began attending a methodist church. I'm planning on getting married in that same methodist church next summer. My grandmother's favorite song was Ave Maria. I never knew her (she passed away when I was 2) and would like to honor her by playing this song sometime during the wedding (probably as prelude music). My question is, is this OK in a protestant church, or is it considered sacrilegious?
Anyone could answer, but if any of you are by any chance catholic, please specify that in your answer. (I've only heard this song at catholic weddings and funerals, that's why I'm directing it mostly to catholics.)
Of course you can play it! We played it at my sister's first wedding... and we're Southern Baptist! It's you wedding, do as you please!

...SCOTUS Declines to Hear Case of #39;Ave Maria#39; School Censorship ...
Saxophonist Kathryn Nurre, now 21, sued the Everett district on the grounds that it "engaged in unconstitutional censorship, acted with hostility toward religion, and treated her and fellow members of the school's wind ensemble differently from others at the school," the story reports. Her lawyer says the teenaged musicians simply liked the instrumental piece musically, not as a specifically Christian hymn.
My public high school had a significant Jewish population, among other minority faiths, yet we sang and played several Christian pieces at our winter concerts, including Christmas carols, "Simple Gifts," and Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus. It's basically impossible to reach a certain level of classical music education without learning any Christian works, though sometimes our teachers would also throw in pieces from other traditions, for good measure. According to the Seattle Times , the trouble in Everett was that the graduation ceremony was too short to include secular selections to balance a religious one, and the district had received complaints when the choir sang a spiritual at a previous graduation.
