I am working on a research paper for AP US History on a book that has made a change, or has impacted America. I chose the book Catechism of the Catholic Church in hopes of enlightening my homosexual history teacher with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Only problem is that im having trouble finding a significant change it has made on AMERICA. Any suggestions
It hasn't even had a significant effect on Catholic America. Only now are textbooks being published with corrections and the right amount of emphasis on things.
Change your topic to the change from a Church of immigrants to a Church of middle class (and possibly the impact of Vatican II on the American Church).
Don't prostelyze with your term paper. It makes it an inferior term paper.
The use of public schools to educate Catholic children on how to be American led to the establishment of private Catholic schools. This is related to the establishment clause in the Constitution.

Are these two the same books? Do they have the exact same contents except that one is paperback and one is hardcover?
I was just worried that the Hardcover, since it is a more recent edition, may have like newer rules or something like that... So they are the exact same?
I am not sure if they are exactly the same. But you want to use the one that says "Second Edition - revised in accordance with the official Latin Text promulgated by Pope John Paul II"

The best way is to attend an RCIA class & discuss questions you have each week while reading the Catechism; you would probably attend Mass weekly & discuss the Bible readings. RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults; early before RCIA classes are often called the inquiry stage to learn more about the Catholic faith. There are no obligaitions for inquirers.
The Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church by Joseph Ratzinger; Pope Benedict XVI is what many RCIA classes use.
"The Compendium, which I now present to the Universal Church, is a faithful and sure synthesis of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Marijuana is never mentioned by name. I find the section on drugs VERY confusing and nonsensical. First it is implied that alcohol, tobacco, and medicine (all of which ARE drugs) may be used:
"2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others' safety on the road, at sea, or in the air."

That it is not a mortal sin, or indeed any sin, assuming the same standards we apply to alcohol (use in moderation, don't drive while under the influence, not for recreational use by minors, etc.).
Because marijuana is no worse than alcohol or tobacco, and because it was criminalized for racist reasons, and because it has proven therapeutic value and yet is being denied to those who would benefit from its use, I consider the laws against it to be unjust, and Catholicism teaches we are not obligated to obey unjust laws.

JAKARTA (UCAN) — The Commission for Catechetics of Jakarta archdiocese has introduced new Catholic teachings with more emphasis on faith experience for junior high school students.
About 100 Catholic teachers from various Catholic-run schools as well as state-run and private schools attended a March 20 workshop introducing the new Pelajaran Agama Katolik (PAK) — Church teachings — held in the hall of Assumption of the Virgin Cathedral Church in Central Jakarta .
The new catechism includes analysis on several issues including the environment. It also contains lessons on service to the poor from Blessed Teresa of Kolkata and Father Yusuf Bilyarta Mangunwijaya, an Indonesian architect, writer and Catholic religious leader.
“This new PAK is in line with the Jakarta archdiocese’s pastoral direction, which is to empower basic ecclesial communities as well as schools in order to encourage the grassroots and students to experience their faith more,” Father Bernardus Hardijantan Dermawan, the commission’s head, told the gathering.
