How has the Catechism of the Catholic Church affected AMERICA?

I am working on a research paper for AP US History on a book that has made a change, or has impacted America. I chose the book Catechism of the Catholic Church in hopes of enlightening my homosexual history teacher with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Only problem is that im having trouble finding a significant change it has made on AMERICA. Any suggestions

It hasn't even had a significant effect on Catholic America. Only now are textbooks being published with corrections and the right amount of emphasis on things.

Change your topic to the change from a Church of immigrants to a Church of middle class (and possibly the impact of Vatican II on the American Church).

Don't prostelyze with your term paper. It makes it an inferior term paper.

The use of public schools to educate Catholic children on how to be American led to the establishment of private Catholic schools. This is related to the establishment clause in the Constitution.

Catholics: Catechism of the Catholic Church?

I have a few questions about the Catechism of the Catholic Church .
Is the Catechism of the Catholic Church for clergy or laity?

Is there a easier to understand version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Or a book like the Catechism of the Catholic Church that is easier to read & understand.

Thanks for your time please answer respectfully.
(Note the reason I ask for Catholic answers is because the Catechism of the Catholic Church is a Catholic book. Any respectful answers are welcome you don't have to be Catholic to answer)

+ Is the Catechism of the Catholic Church for clergy or laity?

This work is intended primarily for those responsible for catechesis (teaching): first of all the bishops, as teachers of the faith and pastors of the Church. It is offered to them as an instrument in fulfilling their responsibility of teaching the People of God. Through the bishops, it is addressed to redactors of catechisms, to priests, and to catechists. It will also be useful reading for all other Christian faithful. (CCC 12)

+ Is there a easier to understand version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church?

Some people like the question and answer format of the "Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church" http://www.vatican.va/archive/compendium _ccc/documents/archive_2005_compendium-c cc_en.html

There are many books that explain the CCC in easier terms. Make sure there is an Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat in the front of any book on Catholic teaching you read. The are Church approvals that the contents of the books do not go against Church teaching.

With love in Christ.

Why is each church suppose to be Catholic? in the book by Pope John Paul the Second?

In this book CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH; don't worry i'm not shouting, it's just how the title is. What are the other type of christian churches called? if the actual church is called Catholic

"ecclesiastical groups"

Question for Catholics: Do you know why we need an American Catholic Catechism book?

We have for sale at our Church The Catechism of the Catholic Church, and then the American Catholic Catechism. I am wondering what is the difference?
To Robert K. -- Calm down , they are in the office not the church. Your really something aren't you? Is your neck sore from holding that head up?

The American Catholic Catechism is the Catechism of the Catholic Church, only it has been adapted to relate specifically to American culture, and how to apply Catholic principles therein.

It's intended users are Catholic educators and RCIA instructors, though anyone is free to purchase a copy for themselves and is sure to benfit from the teachings it offers.

Opinions? Is it fair to compare the Book of Mormon with the Catechism of the Catholic Church?

A recent answer to a LDS question suggested that the Book of Mormon serves as an addendum to the Bible in the same way that the Catechism does for Catholics.

Is this comparison fair, in your opinion? I believe not. The Catechism is derived from the Bible, and even provides direct textual references. The Catechism is not treated as Scripture, but perhaps, a clarification of it (as the Talmud to the Hebrew Bible). The Book of Mormon is Scripture, and contains changes/revisions to the Biblical text.

No. I can see where the person is coming from, but they're downplaying what the Book of Mormon is. It's scripture. The Bible says that from 2 or 3 witnesses will every word from God be established. The Book of Mormon is a witness to stand alongside of the Bible and to confirm and strengthen what the Bible says.

The Articles of Faith would be more comparable to the Catechism. D&C would be more comparable. But the Book of Mormon is actually translated scripture.

As for the 'changes/revisions' that can be argued against. Personally, I don't believe they contradict each other.

We recently had the opportunity to interview Catholic author Ken Ogorek. Ken has written several wonderful books and he is currently the Director of Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The Gospel Truth , from Paulist Press, is his latest book.

    Our interview with Ken Ogorek:

Can you give our readers/customers some information about your background? What about the other books you have written or co-written?

To prepare myself to teach high school religion (and unbeknownst to me prepare myself for what I do now) I earned an M.A. in Religious Education at a Pontifical Center for Catechetical Studies.  After teaching for a few years I was invited to take on some diocesan administrative duties in Pittsburgh, PA.  Although I missed teaching and still do, I grew to see how important—for good or ill—diocesan catechetical work is.  Now I find myself in my native Hoosier state serving as Director of Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  I have a catechetical resource for parish youth ministry coming out soon via Emmaus Road.  Here are some other publications of mine: and correlated it to the three-year cycle of Sunday Gospel readings.  It was sort of like putting a puzzle together.  The result is a book that not only includes all of these Gospel readings but also gives readers an objectively comprehensive overview of the Faith—while inviting them to deepen their relationship with our Triune God and their participation in the holy Catholic Church. The lectionary phrase here simply means that the overview of the Faith provided in this book is closely related to our Sunday Mass readings.  I hear so many stories of how people are using and enjoying the book.  Individuals use it for weekly prayer times—often after reading it cover-to-cover first as a preview.  Parents use it with children (each week has a conversation-starter question for parents and kids).  RCIA groups use it not only during the initiation process but as a gift to those fully initiated—a gift that keeps on giving.  Priests even use it to prepare homilies such that over time the faithful hear key doctrines preached on at Holy Mass. I was blessed to serve on then-Bp. Wuerl’s pastoral staff for nine years in Pittsburgh.  I sensed that he would appreciate the book and he was kind enough to offer that foreword.  Bishops with a special emphasis on catechesis are often interested in helping further authentic catechetical renewal by supporting sound, solid catechetical resources. Our culture, although it offers much that is good, can at times be a brutal opponent to living a Catholic life.  Also, wounded by original sin as we are, we don’t always gravitate toward experiences that help bring us lasting happiness and true joy.  When religion is discussed at all it’s often marginalized—compartmentalized. We need to see the connection between Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition; books like this one can be very helpful along these lines.  One challenge can be that the same Scripture passage can call to mind many points of doctrine.  I see this ultimately as a strength because it helps folks see the interconnectedness of our Faith—its organic nature. We’re righting the ship but digging ourselves out of a deep hole.  (How’s that for a mixed metaphor?)  Solid efforts like yours and truly good speakers like those found here  http://www.tmgspeakers.com/Speakers/Ogorek/ are part of the solution.  By God’s grace we’ll keep making real progress and give folks a fighting chance at hearing the truth and embracing the Way, the Truth and the Life!

I can already see this list is unreasonable.  The only realistic thing on the list is the Greene and the Nouwen.  But I really do need and want to read the Wright and the Hays.  And the Peterson.  And the others.

Perhaps the more important question is, which book should I take with me to England in August?  I’m thinking either Greene or O’Connor.  But then it might be nice to read a British author on his or her own soil, so perhaps something by P.G. Wodehouse or perhaps

I’d say don’t take anything with you, and when you are there hit the Oxfam shops in the villages for good used books.

And I understand you are to be in Charing Cross Road right? That’s like the mother load of used books shops. Then you’ll have treasures to bring home and whenever you read them you will remember your trip.
