Political Asylum in US and catholic church marriage certificate?
Revora-Nadora Church- Goa

I'm seeking political asylum in US and my wife is not with me.We are married at Catholic Church and we have the certificate issued by the church.I would like to know if that certificate is enough to get her in US.Also,I don't have any other supporting documents, thats all I have and I'm wondering if immigration in US approves the asylum for her too.
I'm from Kosovo

The certificate will not be enough on it's own to get her into the country. I can't tell you if US immigration will accept your application or both, but she will need her own set of immigration papers. Keep your wedding certificate, it will help, but it is not an automatic green card. Good luck.

Catholic FAQ #6: Why marriage between one man one woman?

during the 50s and 60s, what was the official position of the Catholic church ragarding interracial marriage?
Asia - Philippines / Cebu - getting married

I'm really curious about the interracial marrige controversy during the 60s, and what people thought about it, especially Catholics and really the Catholic church. Were they for it, against it, or neutral? It happened so recently, and many people who fought on both sides of the issue are still alive today, and I'm curious as to what they had to say (I myself am a product of an interracial marriage). This is particularly fascinating because today it's an almost laughable notion that interracial marriages were once against the law. Please enlighten.

The Church was never taught against interracial relationships infact many Catholic scholars have long believed the Bible gives an early example of an interacial marriage in Moses and his wife who was a Kushite(Ethiopian) and thus most likely black. Another clue to this is God's punishment to Moses sister who spoke against his wife, Moses sister became elbino like a fitting problem to someone who has a problem with dark skin.

By the way there was a african/black Pope in the 6th century and many Catholics hope Cardinal Arinze who is black will be the next Pope, because of his great fidelity to the faith.

On What Grounds Does The Catholic Church Permit A Couple To Get A Marriage Annulment?
(Untitled)

I know that the Catholic Church does not permit divorce; but they do allow marriage annulments; which means that according to the Church the marriage never happened.

On what grounds does the Church permit an annulment?

The church does not accept that marriages can break up. But it allows Catholics who obtain a civil divorce to argue for an annulment – the church's determination that a marriage never really existed.

Reasons for nullifying a marriage include impotence, refusal by a spouse to have children and psychological immaturity at the time of marriage.

How do you get a marriage recognized by the Catholic church?
(Untitled)

I am Episcopalian and my fiancee is Catholic. If we were to get married in the Episcopalian church, how hard would it be for us to get our marriage recognized by the Catholic church?

What steps would we have to go through? Would we need a priest there? Does he have to actually perform the ceremony? Do we still need to do the marriage counseling through the Catholic church?

What do you think very strict Catholics (his grandparents) would think about us getting married in an Episcopalian church? Is there any animosity between the two churches?

To get married in the catholic church you need to meet with your priest, do the FOCUS, do marriage prep with priest, and do the Engaged encounter. The Priest will have to be there and it will have to be in the Catholic Church if your boyfriend wants to be able to still receive the Eucharist. If you are willing to do all of this for your boyfriend I'm sure his parents wont mind. You also have to be open to children in your marriage. You should only practice NFP to space children. You also have to be willing to let your husband raise your kids Catholic.

And for everyone who is saying you need money, this is a lie. We were broke and had no money and the church did the wedding for free.

What to Expect..Marriage Catholic Church?
Wedding rings

My fiance and I are planning to get married in July. In an hour I need to meet up with the nun to figure out what I need to do. However, he is catholic and was in the parish for quite some time. He is now in the US army. However, he wont be able to come to this meeting. What do I expect. What will we need to do in order to get married there. I was baptized as a methodist but we want to raise our kids as catholic. What should I expect.

Just be honest and answer their questions truthfully. If this is your first meeting with the church, mre than likely she will just go over the process of getting married there, what is required and pencil you in so they don't book another wedding. Good Luck!

  • The bCatholic Church/b enters Maine#39;s bmarriage/b battle | The Bilerico b.../b

The Catholic Church is revving up for the ballot initiative in Maine. Does anyone think it's appropriate for the Church to be saying that a legal contract is defined by God? Notice the children being forced to participate in this ritual (after they complain about marriage being taught in schools !), as well as the, um, Church historian they interviewed who said that the Church's teachings aren't influenced by the changing times or by politics. Even for homophobes, these people have a stunning lack of self-awareness.

It's ironic, too, since the separation of church and state benefits Catholics. I don't know what delusion they're operating under, but if the government actually established a religion and enforced its rules, the US government would never pick Catholicism. They have as much to benefit from the separation of church and state as we do.

Make No Mistake: Maine#39;s Anti-bMarriage/b Effort Is Being Led By the b.../b

Just so we're clear, the anti-marriage equality effort in Maine is not being led by a consortium of independent, like-minded citizens in a grassroots effort as they'd have you believe — but the Roman Catholic Church. And they're using their influence, and direct dial with Jesus, to rape Americans of their rights.

Portland's Roman Catholic Bishop Richard Malone (pictured, right), who belongs on DaddyHunt.com , is spearheading a religious affront to get a Yes vote on Question 1 to repeal the same-sex marriage law. He's collecting donations from the pulpit to go toward fighting the holy fight, which some CPAs might advise them against.

But the supposedly secular, grassroots group Stand for Marriage Maine is tied to Malone's activities. Not only are the donations Malone collects from parisohners going directly to Stand for Marriage Maine (money laundering anyone?), but sad person and S4MM's campaign director Marc Mutty (pictured, left) is actually Malone's public affairs director — temporarily on leave to run S4MM.
