Not too long ago i transferred churches, in the old one there was a thing called confession which you go and tell your sins to the priest, he says a blessing, tells you to go say whatever amount of our fathers and hail mary's.
Today in my new church i am going to something called reconciliation, never been to something called that before. Is it any different from confession? How do i begin reconciliation?
Google absolution, It will show you it is reconciliation. When you are in the confessional and confess, the ordained priest will give you absolution as he has been given to power to pronounce absolution, Reconciliation.
"But the Lord then principally instituted the Sacrament of Penance, when, being raised from the dead, He breathed upon His disciples saying, 'Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them, and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.' By which action so signal, and words so clear the consent of all the Fathers has ever understood that the power of forgiving and retaining sins was communicated to the Apostles, and to their lawful successors for the reconciling of the faithful who have fallen after baptism" (Sess. XIV, i).

i am a catholic wanting to get reconciliation from a priest, but my nearest catholic church is 20 min away driving, and i cant drive, nor is there anyone here who can give me a ride. there is a mormon church within walking distance and i was wondering if it would go against catholicism if i was reconciled there from one of their priests. i was also wondering if it was the same process.
No the LDS Church does not have an ordinance for confession and repentance. We may work with our Bishop to repent of serious sins. Otherwise we repent through prayer directly to Heavenly Father.
Is it necessary for a teen to go through the process of reconciliation in a catholic church. Is this something that is stated in the bible or is this a catholic belief and tradition? I went to a priest for confession and he said that because i was not married in a Catholic Church he could not grant me forgiveness of my sins but could only pray for me??

Please I'd like to know what the scriptures say or reason from them. Thank you.
Traditional start of Catholic confession: "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned" said to a priest. What Jesus had to say? " Moreover, do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One. Neither be called ‘leaders,’ for your Leader is one, the Christ." (Matthew 23:9, 10)
"The Catholic Church has always taught that every sin, no matter how serious, can be forgiven." (The Catholic Encyclopedia, 1976) What does the Bible say? "For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left." (Hebrews 10:26)
Penance in the form of "Our Fathers" and "Hail Marys" (prayers)? Jesus said: "But when praying, do not say the same things over and over again, just as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words... You must pray, then, this way: ‘Our Father in the heavens... forgive us our debts." (Matthew 6:7, 9, 12)
According to the Catholic Encyclopedia confessions to priests (auricular confession) were not practiced until the fourth century after Christ, long after the time of Jesus and his apostles in the first century when the Bible was completed.

Pope Benedict accused of masterminding Catholic Church sex abuse ...
Pope Benedict has been accused of masterminding the child sex-abuse cover up which has rocked the Catholic Church.
Swiss theologian Fr Hans Kung has written a furious letter to the Catholic bishops accusing the Pope of engineering the global cover-up.
“There is no denying the fact that the worldwide system of covering up cases of sexual crimes committed by clerics was engineered by the Roman Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith under Cardinal Ratzinger (1981-2005),” he said.
“During the reign of Pope John Paul II , that Congregation had already taken charge of all such cases under oath of strictest silence. Ratzinger himself, on May 18th, 2001, sent a solemn document to all the bishops dealing with severe crimes in which cases of abuse were sealed under the secretum pontificium, the violation of which could entail grave ecclesiastical penalties.

During an Aug, 18th, 2009 meeting with Minnesota Rep. Dean Urdahl, two Mdewakanton Dakota tribal leaders and two indigenous peoples rights activists, including John Borman and I, Urdah asked me to write a Minnesota Indian Apology Resolution. During the meeting, I stated that the Doctrine of Discovery should be included in the resolution and Leonard Wabasha, a Mdewakanton Dakota hereditary chief, said, Yes!
