Hey!
I'm just curious because I know for a fact that the Anglican Church believe in two sacraments - Baptism and Holy Communion, while the Catholic Church believe in all seven sacraments. But is there anything else? Like.. do both religions do the rituals differently etc etc
Thanks!
On the books, Anglicans have only two sacraments, but in practise many churches still hold to all seven.
Anglicans do not have confession.
Anglicans do not believe in the Real Presence and regard The Eucharist as only a symbol.
The Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church as described by Fr. Raphael Mary of the Catholic Newman Center at the University of Washington.
What is a sacrament? What are the Seven Sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church?

I would use the symbol of a circle. A circle is always there and it is a sign of something that is continuous. Each Sacrament plays a very special part in our lives and is there in each point in our lives, each unforgettable point in our lives: newborn (Baptism), teenage years (Confirmation), every Sunday (Eucharist), every time for repentance and bettering of ourselves (Reconciliation), giving of ourselves (Marriage), giving ourselves (Holy Orders), birth into new life and our end times here (Anointing of the Sick). There will always be a circle in the room and the gift that each of these Sacraments gives us is a continual gift...it keeps on giving.

The Catholic church understanding of the seven sacraments was and is that they were instituted by Christ for the life of His church, efficacious signs of grace, entrusted to the church, by which divine life is dispensed to us. The visible rites by which the sacraments are celebrated signify and make present the graces proper to each sacrament, they bear fruit in those who receive them with the required dispositions.

Can you name the seven bCatholic Sacraments/b? - sporcle
I tried Viaticum, Sacrament of the Sick, Last Rites, and got nothing. I really think at least one of those should have worked. As a raised Catholic, I object to baptism being carried out without children being old enough to consent, and I object yet more strongly to confirmation at the age of 11 (again too young for informed consent), as if that justifies the prior atrocity. Last Rites and Viaticum are not the same thing as Anointing of the Sick/Extreme Unction. Last Rites encompasses the three sacraments of Reconciliation, the Eucharist (Viaticum), and Anointing of the Sick given to those who are approaching death. (see http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04660c.htm or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anointing_of_the_Sick_(Catholic_Church) )

For the past decade, every prominent Democratic politician who describes him- or herself as a Catholic has at some point been subjected to the manufactured controversy of “Should he be allowed the sacraments? Should he get a Catholic funeral?” It is inevitably the product of an individual clergyman (or even worse, a commentator or PR-for-hire man like Bill Donahue) seeking to use his tax-exempt organization as an entry into the political arena. As I have said many times, I have no problem with Focus on the Family, Pat Robertson, or the Catholic Church operating as partisan political groups. Just surrender the tax exemption and then do as you please. Alas, they choose to hold onto it and remain “non-partisan.”
I am very, very far from a moral authority on Catholicism or any other religion. But when we hear questions about whether John Kerry should be allowed the sacraments or, more recently, if Ted Kennedy should be permitted a Catholic burial (K-Lo wants to know too !) because of their failure to back a pro life agenda, it strikes me as, if not the lamest argument on Earth, a strong contender for the title. The Catholic Church considers abortion a moral evil and a mortal sin. This cannot be debated. What is so stupid is the idea that the Church can or should pick and choose, making ad hoc decisions to deny aspects of the faith to well known politicians.
