I don't agree with how it was handled (I am not catholic anyway), but I understand the era and the times when this happened.
I also understand the news was brought forth rather late in the person's life who was accused.
The person is dead and has been for a long time. I think if you really examine the FACTS you would see that one of the people claiming to be abused did bring their information to the local authorities who did NOTHING.
Why blame the church when even the local secular government did nothing? Want to fish for a blame game I guess.
The real issue is why people did not press on the issue at the time and let it go. Very disappointing.

Catholic schools seem to have better academic reports. Are they better all round, or are the church of england ones nicer schools to be in?
I have known students from both schools and the Catholic school students invaribly surpass the public school students(church of England)academically.Check the statistics and I bet the catholic students much more often attend college and are far better behavied. They seem to have a stronger moral sense drilled into them. Are Catholic schools in England more expensive to attend in England? In America it costs about three times as much.If your child is having behavorial, and I am not saying she is,but if it were the case I would opt for the Catholic school without hesitation.I bet you will find less crowded classrooms meaming much more individualized instruction. No doubt there will initually be adjustment problems but onch that hurdle is gotten over you will be far more satisfied. Now I didn't attend a Catholic school and for me it probably would not have made much dirrerence. But I wish I had or at least had the opportunity.I say that after years of teaching experience.Always keep formost in ming that the inportant thing is your child and your personal likes and dislikes are back seat. Not that you don't but I always remind everyone that.Old habit. Before making any commitments why not observe each for awhile before making a decision.Your Pal larry m
How much authority do teachers have in Catholic schools?
In primary school everyone in my school had to go to church on religious special occasions and go up for a blessing or communion. No other religious events were acknowledged unless we were studying then even though there were Muslims, Buddhist, atheist and what ever else in school. Could those kids be allowed to just refuse to go to church or for a blessing?
I go to a Church of England school and there are plenty of people with different religions and faiths. We have communions and assemblys about God and Christianity all the time but it doesn't bother me or my friends at all. Our parents chose that school because it achieves extremely well at GCSE and A Level every year, not because it has Christian ethics etc.
My best friend is Muslim and she just takes a blessing at communion and gets on with it; she knows she's getting a really good education, what's an hour of listening to someone talk about God? I don't think it's wrong of them to not talk about other religions, and I think children should be made to attend all the religious activities going on at school whatever their faith because it's a CofE school. People from other religions knew what they were getting into when they applied for the school, I don't see it as unfair at all.
Like, why do kids have to go to church school on Saturday? Do they get like some certificate or something. Btw, its a catholic church school..
to force religion so far down their throat they gag
I heard you have to attend a catholic church in order to attend a catholic school.
Of course not. I am an atheist attending a Catholic School. There are many Protestants there, too.
