VATICAN CITY (AP) -- In a joint press conference in St. Peter's Square this morning, MICROSOFT Corp. and the Vatican announced that the Redmond software giant will acquire the Roman Catholic Church in exchange for an unspecified number of shares of MICROSOFT common stock. If the deal goes through, it will be the first time a computer software company has acquired a major world religion.
"We expect a lot of growth in the religious market in the next five to ten years," said Gates. "The combined resources of MICROSOFT and the Catholic Church will allow us to make religion easier and more fun for a broader range of people."
Through the MICROSOFT Network, the company's new on-line service, "we will make the sacraments available on-line for the first time" and revive the popular pre-Counter-Reformation practice of selling indulgences, said Gates. "You can get Communion, confess your sins, receive absolution -- even reduce your time in Purgatory -- all without leaving your home."

I view Christianity as a computer software. It had a lot of bugs (and still do) and many patches were applied to correct them, but still some of the general public thought that it couldn't be patched outright perfectly, so they had decided to make a new program to compete with it, and that was achieved by selecting and copying some of the original program codes that they wanted, and putting in new codes as well. This new program competed with the original for users.
Now, there are many new softwares that have the same purpose as the original. Anyone can choose which software suits them the most. Thus, can non-Catholic denominations be considered as healthy competitors to the Catholic Church? (you know, just to avoid the anti-trust lawsuits and stuff?)
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I'm a Catholic Fanboy. Hahahaha
I veiw the New programs as corrections or better, replacement programs, with the intent that the old corrupted ones were meant to be decommissioned, but sadly some keep running these old incorrect or corrupted programs. The whole thing of Christianity is that it isn't meant to be competing against itself, but meant to be only one perfect program.

I live in USA, if everyone understood the purpose of Socialism and were taught how it works and that they are indeed needed in order for the government to stand then why could it not work. I keep seeing that socialism doesn't work because people get lazy from lack of reward so the government crumbles, but those are people who cannot grasp socialism. Shouldn't it work if everyone understands it? You wake up, yawn and stretch and say "I'm going to go to work to better my country and neighbors" not "i'm going to go to work to better me"
Is greed and laziness really that powerful that people cannot use socialism without destroying them self even if they knew they were needed?
The catholic church is a socialistic structure, it relies solely on donations for money but it's still standing after how long? What does it have that a socialist government doesn't?
Linux is a socialized computer OS, in fact all software that is open source under the general public license is. They produce high quality products and all for free and they're still standing, most of the people aren't rewarded one bit by their efforts except through donations and the good feeling of accomplishing it. Can't a socialized government work similar?
When I am down and out, others in a socialized government would help me get back on my feet, to which I would be able to help those who are in need. Is this not constructive?
When I am down and out in this current government. I have no support, I can ask and beg on my knees for medical support and I have to fill out forms I can't understand, then be rejected for messing up or for my issue not being "life threatening" This government is a dog eat dog government, it is selfish and greedy, it looks at those in need of help like they are scum instead of looking at them with compassion and understanding and offering a helping hand so that they can rejoin humanity in helping others. Is this not destructive?
I admit I am bias towards Socialism, but only because I can only see the good that a stable healthy socialized government could do, if only everyone knows that they are vital to the government working.
also for the "Look at the other countries that tried it" thought, how many times did thomas edison fail to build a light bulb before finally accomplishing it? He never failed, he just learned how to improve it and make it work that is all. Same with socialism, could there not be just a way to improve it and make it work?
The naive and simple outlook that you have is charming. Misguided, but charming. Socialism is based partly on the following premise; To each according to there needs, from each their abilities.
This sound good in theory, however the implementation of it is that somebody has to decide what your need is, and what your ability is. This decision is not yours to make. In the process the State becomes the sole Authority. You may feel you need an operation to correct a physical malady, However, the State may decree that It's need is not what you desire, and your ability is to surrender and succumb as to not be a further burden on the State. Or, it is your desire to become educated and teach, but, your physically able to operate a spade (shovel) and are put to work in the fields turning soil, for the greater good of the State.
Suggest that you read "Atlas Shrugged". Get the full version read both the prefix and sufix. Think about it. Socialism only works if all property is nationalized, and the people become property of the State.

A $200 vibrator, confessionals from the bCatholic Church/b and why b.../b
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Michael Feuer found a path to wellness in the Catholic Church. And he’s Jewish.
The founder of OfficeMax was in Rome touring Vatican City when he satisfied a longtime curiosity and went into a nearby church, slipped into a booth and went through the rite of confession.
“I did it in a respectful manner,” said Feuer, who often spent nights strolling through retail stores watching customers to get ideas for OfficeMax. “I wanted to confess and see what it was like. I really was fascinated.”
A secular version of confessionals will be part of Feuer’s new venture: Max-Wellness . The stores will be one part superstore and one part high-end boutique, with items covering topics from vitamin supplements to sexual health. In the middle of his stores will be confessional-styled “cones of silence,” where people will reveal intimate questions about their own health (to a computer instead of a Catholic priest), and will receive advice on products and lifestyle options especially for them.
