Why do Christians blame the Catholic church for giving a bad name to christianity?
Sydney St Mary's Cathedral

They use things such as the crimes committed by the church during the dark ages and what the priests do with abusing kids nowadays.

While i agree that the church is responsible for these crimes , what about the other denominations which are guilty of crimes as well?

Calvinist christianity ---- responsible for upholding slavery in america
Dutch reformed church ----- Responsible for upholding aparthied in south africa
protestants ---- destroying ireland, killing aboriginal people of australia and native indians in america

so why blame only the catholics?

You are so right! It was not just Catholics who did bad things. All false religion has done bad things in the name of God and have many God dishonoring beliefs that make him look like a monster. They all came down to us from Satan the devil and deserve to be exposed.
So thank you for doing that.

Well, I'm not sure about African American churches, but I must add that the majority of Armenians are "Armenian Orthodox", with only minorities being Catholic and/or Evangelical. On that note, Armenia prides itself on being the first nation to formally adopt Christianity (301ad)! Nice Q!

Is anyone else concerned about John Avanzini money-seeking mailouts?
St Joseph Church Penola_5667

I got a coloured book in the mail today saying if I sent this guy $$ God would multiply it 10 fold. I hope no one is sucked in by this scam. Not one thing in the book can be verified either!!!! If you have money problems ask God to supply your need yourself. This is just a money making scam. As a Christian I am so sad that people try to make money out of other people's need or greed.

NZ lawyer warning on John Avanzini Ministries
February 21, 2000
By Teresa Watanabe
Wellington -- A Texan-based group was using the religious beliefs of some Australians and New Zealanders to unfairly extract money from them, a New Zealand lawyer said today.

John Avanzini Ministries, which has branches in Lower Hutt, New Zealand and Brighton in South Australia, promised donors an abundant financial return from God if their offering was divinely guided, said lawyer Peter McLeod. Avanzini could not be contacted for comment through either his Lower Hutt or Australian message services.

McLeod, a parishioner at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Lower Hutt, said the scheme 'preyed' on people's spirituality. It could persuade the devout to draw out their savings in the belief that such action was blessed by God, he said.

He had recently received a manuscript from John Avanzini Ministries called The Offering God Must Multiply.

In a covering letter, Avanzini said the manuscript, when published, would be 'one of the most powerful books God has ever given me'. "When it was delivered I noticed the courier had a pile of similar envelopes for others," McLeod said

He had never heard of Avanzini before. He said the manuscript used carefully selected quotations to distort Bible teachings by highlighting money. In the 19-page manuscript, Avanzini told potential donors ' ... God has a portion of this world's wealth set aside for you'.

To receive it, people had to make their offering to Avanzini's Christian ministry both cheerfully and willingly.

"However, if you allow the pressure from your insufficiency to influence the amount of your offering, God will not accept it ... you must never allow your concern over the temporary shortage or insufficiency you are facing to decrease the amount of your offering."

The manuscript also said the amount of money given was the visible evidence of the intensity of a donor's faith in God. The Office of Fair Trading in Victoria was warning people about the scheme just over a year ago.

At that time, the group was promising to set people 'financially free' if they sent in a donation with copies of their bills and mortgages which would be burnt in a special ceremony .

To: 'God answers all questions' - I would never get sucked into such a scam, but there are people out there, through need or greed, who do. Im not too worried about the greed ones, but some people when they are desperately hard up will try anything. God certainly answers prayer, but i believe this guy is just on a money making scam.
I believe God expects us to be our brother's keeper, and blow the warning whistle on such practices

it has been going on for thousands of years by many churches.
Some used to allow you to buy indulgences to stay out of hell.

  • Orange Order denounces planned papal visit: The Church of England ...

First published in The Church of England Newspaper.

The Orange Order has denounced the planned state visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Britain, saying that by receiving the Pope in his official capacity, the British government was recognizing the theological claims of Rome.

In a statement released on March 24, the Grand Lodge of Ireland of the Orange Order said the “Pope claims himself to be the vicar of Christ on earth, a title which assumes supreme and universal supremacy both in honour and jurisdiction over all – church, state, the world. Any who would welcome him are in danger of appearing to acknowledge his primacy and universal supremacy in all of these matters.”

Kenyan #39;no#39; to abortion and Sharia law: The Church of England ...

First published in The Church of England Newspaper.

Kenya’s church leaders have warned that any accommodation of Sharia law or abortion in the nation’s proposed constitution will lead to its rejection by the nation’s Christians at the ballot box.

On March 18 the National Council of Churches of Kenya, the Anglican Church of Kenya, the Roman Catholic Bishops’ Conference, and other church groups released a statement saying that carving out a place for Sharia law and Kadhi Courts for Muslims within the judicial system was unacceptable.

The constitutional reform process had “consistently ignored the views of the Christian Community in Kenya” in preparing the new national charter, they said, noting that such a tactic would ensure the “draft is rejected” when put to a national referendum.
