There have been many scandals in the history of the church, Murder, sexual, fraudulent, and if you can name it, it has probably happened.
The most recent of course is the sexual abuse of young people, predominantly boys by some priests.
The perpetrators of these crimes are in a small minority, however all associated with the church seem to come under fire by those who do not take the time to find out the true facts, and what is being done to rectify the situation.

Is the catholic church (Vatican) the authority on all things scripture?
St. Peter's Basilica

Why or why not?

Even a bomb can destroy vatican forever, authority of scriptures is because it comes from god,not vatican. This forum is inhabited by catholics as seen by thumbs down for those who say the truth.Shame on you catholics, for you fail to see your own shortcomings and are angry when somebody exposes it.Catholicism is nothing but idolatry mixed with christianity which was born in rome during time of constantine. When constantine made christianity the official religion of roman empire in 4th century, most of his empire was still pagan.Pagans found it hard to forgo of their idolatry that easily. So they changed the names of their old idols to 'christian' ones and started worshiping and praying to them, this is continued by catholic and orthodox(those that split from catholics on 1000AD).The church leaders at that time took a blind eye to these, because they were more intreseted in money and material benefits they would get from the state, than serving the creator. Thus they are the real culprits.Vatican was known as the temple of serpent before 4th century, you can see the relics of this inside vatican if you look. Many of the old statues were just renamed. But true christianity continued without interruption even when most of the church fell for idolatry. They were followers of mani(mani was a 2nd century persian apostle of jesus) who extended from persia to china in the east and to balkans in the west. They existed from 2nd-15th century. In turkey and balkans they were called paulicians and bogomils and existed till 12th century when they were wiped out by catholic crusaders who considered them heretics. They were behind iconoclastic movement of 7th century, which was against idolatry in catholic church. In 12th century 2 new christian groups called waldensians and cathars arose in italy and france respectively, cathars were totally wiped out by catholic crusaders who again branded christians heretics. In fact most of information you get in net is misinformation by catholics and orthodox who claim to be christians(although many do it unknowingly, they just repeat what catholicism taught them down the centuries).EIPS~European institute of protestant studies, is one source i know which has true information with this regard.Waldensians on the other hand has survived till today and has united with protestantism~true christianity.By 15th century bible became available to masses and they came to know the truth that catholic church practiced idolatry calling it christianity. The were lead by many leaders like jan hus,jan zizka, luther, calvin etc.Today the number more than 800million.In future all mankind will be united in one single protestant church called godschurch(there will be no phony imitations of godschurch like vatican, catholicism, islam etc)

Was paedophilia an issue in the catholic church before Vatican II?
PIETA - The Most Famous and Revered Marble Sculpture in Christian World.

Are there any cases, they all seem to date back to the sixties, seventies etc.

Provide your source.
Pedophile, homosexual are always problems since day one. St Paul's letter to the Corinthians is really for pervert homosexual even being practiced in the temple, e,g, male homosexual, you know.
Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."
Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them."
1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

  • Vatican to Finance Adult Stem Cell Research - News

ROME - The Vatican is pushing for research of adult stem cells as an alternative to the use of embryonic stem cells, which the Catholic Church opposes because it maintains that the destruction of the embryo amounts to the killing of human life.

On Friday, the Catholic Church threw its support and resources behind the study of intestinal adult stem cells by a group of experts led by the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The group wants to explore the potential use of those cells in the treatment of intestinal and possibly other diseases, and is seeking an initial euro2 million ($2.7 million) to get the project going, officials said.

"This research protects life," Cardinal Renato Martino said during a meeting with Italian and American scientists and health officials to outline the project. "I want to stress that it doesn't involve embryonic stem cells, where one helps oneself and then throws the embryo away and kills a human life."

US lawyer for Vatican calls abuse suit #39;completely without merit ...

.- In a statement released by the Holy See's Press Office on Friday, the Vatican's lawyer in the U.S., Jeffrey Lena, states that a recent lawsuit against the Holy See regarding an abusive priest from Wisconsin is not legitimate. The case does, however, show an attempt by "certain U.S. lawyers" to take advantage of the judiciary for media relations, he argues.

The declaration from the lawyer comes after the filing of a federal lawsuit in the Eastern District Court of Milwaukee, naming the Vatican as a defendant in a case about abuses committed by Fr. Lawrence Murphy. The Wisconsin priest, who sexually abused hundreds of minors between 1950 and 1974 at St. John’s School for the Deaf in Milwaukee, died in 1998.

Lena responds in the statement released on Friday, "first and foremost, sympathy is due to the victims of the criminal acts committed by Fr. Lawrence Murphy. By sexually abusing children, Murphy violated both the law and the trust that his victims had placed in him."
