Has the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church celebrate Divine Liturgy of the Eastern Catholic Church?
Ják Chapel / Jáki kápolna, City Park, Budapest, Hungary

If not how can the sucessor of Saint Peter claims to have complete jurisdiction over the Eastern Churches when he does not even celebrate the Holy Divine Liturgy

I am not Catholic- I'm Orhtodox but first is there anything stoping him from celebrating the Liturgy of Saint James basil or John Chrysostom- there is nothing stopping the pope from doing so. I know of Catholic priests in the US in areas where there are not enough priests who will celebrate both the Eastern and Western rites so they could serve uniate and western rite congregations. The only thing that might stop the pope would be- what is the protocal for ecumincal councils- is there an eccumincal liturgy that dates back to the original 7 councils or did they just use the rite of the senior patriarch.?

Eastern Catholic Church and Western Catholic Church?
Entrance to Ják Chapel / Jáki kápolna bejárata, City Park, Budapest, Hungary

I understand that there are various types of Catholic churches. However, I wanted to know what is the difference between the Eastern Catholic church versus the Western Catholic Church (i.e. Latin-rite)? I understand that they recognize the pope, but would the pope be their leader?

They are both Catholic and must be subject to the pope. The difference is mostly just in their traditions. Some things are done differently (i.e. eastern rite say their Mass in Ukrainian or Greek, etc, whereas Western Rite used to always say theirs in Latin). Not only are they both subject to the pope, but both must follow and profess all of the dogmas and doctrines of the church. I am a Latin Rite Catholic myself and have never been to an eastern rite church but I have heard that it is beautiful and not difficult to follow along even though it is said in a difficult language. I would love to see one sometime. For now I am more than content with the Latin Mass.

I'm curious, what is the different between Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Catholic Church?

Are there any different traditions? holiday? celebrations?

The Byzantine Rite (Catholic) is similar to the Orthodox, and quite different from the Roman Catholic rite. Most celebratory vestments, for instance, are gold, while in the RC rite, they are white. The Priest Faces the altar, while in the west, the priest is behind the altar. The liturgy is quite different, using St John Chrysostom's Divine Liturgy. (Both Orthodox and Catholic (eastern rites) use this Liturgy. It is based on the liturgy used by the Catholics in Antioch who were the first Christians, and still have parts of their mass said in Aramaic.)

er...Bishop Dimitrios Salachas is a bishop, not a pope. The Orthodox church has a Patriarch (Bartholomew).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecumenical_ Patriarch_of_Constantinople

How can I find an Eastern rite Catholic Church in North Florida?
Ják Chapel / Jáki kápolna, City Park, Budapest, Hungary

Does anyone know of an Eastern rite Catholic Church in North Florida preferably near Gainesville? If not, do you know how I can contact an Eastern rite Diocese to ask them where one might be?

Thanks, Grace

Yeesh! Maybe you should move to South Florida; Eastern Rite churches seem to be in abundance there. These are all I could find in North Florida, and some of them are stretching it a bit. I did the best I could.

Where can I purchase materials on the Eastern Rite Catholic Church to teach sudents from age 7 to 16?
Deep in Prayer

There is a lot of materials on the Roman Catholic Church, which I can use, however I require material on the liturgy and devotions etc.

  • Good Friday – Great amp; Holy Friday « Adrienne#39;s Armoire

Today is Good Friday in The Western Catholic Church, and Great and Holy Friday in The Eastern Catholic Churches. We honor the Death of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by attending services, keeping quiet without radio, TV, unnecessary cell phone use, etc.., between the hours of noon – 3pm, when Christ suffered and died on The Cross. His Mother Mary stood by The Cross (she was sorrowful, but did not swoon) as did St. John, to whom Jesus entrusted the care of His Blessed Mother.

Strict fast and abstinence in both churches [aka = rites]. You can any of the Western or Eastern Catholic Churches to fulfill your Catholic obligations and desire to adore, honor, and have compassion for Him Who died for your salvation.

Catholic Sex Scandal! Or Leave No Child#39;s Behind. « eehard#39;s Weblog

As Christians get ready to celebrate, perhaps their most holiest of days, I am reminded of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and all that it entails.  Forgiveness of sins. Everlasting life for those who are saved through him.  And all of that is good if you believe in that kind of stuff.  But I wonder whether or not there is forgiveness and everlasting life awaiting those Catholic Priests that have raped and tortured innocent children over the centuries?

This ridiculous dogma of celibacy and not allowing priest to marry is denying man of one of his most powerful and basic instincts.  Priests need to eat also but I don’t see any edict banning the consumption of food.  The two rules were instituted for two reasons, first, to have sex with a woman was considered to make a man unclean and if you’re dirty, you really can’t serve God can you?  Secondly, and by far more importantly, the ban against marriage was to keep heirs from making any claims against church property.  Damn if the Pope was going to give up one of his golden candle sticks.
