How old is the ORTHODOX faith? If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk of the Catholic Church, in the year ...
well im doing this test for my 7th grade social studies class and the last question id worth ten points and it says:Explain the conflict between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. What were its origins and how was it resolved?
The Orthodox and Catholic Churches were one and the same until they separated from one another in 1054 mainly over the role of the Pope.
There are very few theological differences. The main difference is that the Orthodox Churches (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11329a.h tm) use the Byzantine Rite (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04312d.h tm) and the Catholic Church use the Roman or Latin Rite.
Pope John Paul II said of the Orthodox Churches in Orientale Lumen, "A particularly close link already binds us. We have almost everything in common."

A.The Orthodox Church did not believe in Jesus Christ.
B. Only the Catholic Church followed the pope.
C. In the Orthodox Church, priests were not allowed to marry.
D. The Catholic Church wanted to use Greek as the official language.
B is the answer. But the disagreement was much more fundamental. It had to do with trying to explain the Trinity, which seems like a silly thing to disagree on because of course it is a mystery, and who can explain a mystery anyway? Nonetheless, the Orthodox took the position that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father alone. And Catholics take the position that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Love between the Father and the Son. That whole issue is called the "filioque" which is Latin for "and the Son".
I am Catholic and I believe the Catholic position cause it makes a lot more sense in describing the Trinity and of course the Catholic Church has taught it infallibly, which means it is true. I just cannot see why for over 1000 years, we have been separated by this issue.

Both claim that they are the first and original churches. Which one is correct, and what's the evidence? Oh, and evangelicals, don't give me the bull about Protestantism being first, everyone knows that's a joke; Catholicism and the Orthodox Church were the first Christian churches.
Both.

Another difference is the Filioque clause in the Nicene Creed, the original which the Orthodox follow is
"And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father."
And the Catholic revision is:
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son."

The Orhtodox calendar dose difer- all of us celibrate easter on a difernt date than the west- the west changed it
Not all Orhtodox Chritans use the same calendar. Next we don't do confirmation like Rome- we chrismate after Baptism so first communion is given as a baby. We don't use a confesional booth and we ordain maried men to the preisthood while other are ordained as monks. All Bishops aremonks BTW
