My parents have calendars from different Roman Catholic organizations, including one from their church, with all the saints' feast days listed, but, many female saints are listed as virgins while many male saints aren't.
Why? Isn't that prejudicial?Did any of those saints tell anyone that they were or weren't virgins?
How did any of those calendar makers arrive at their conclusions about the sex lives of any of the saints?
I don't know about "many" being listed as virgins. There are a few. but there were several if you read were married, had children. Perpetua was still nursing her child when she was Martyred.
There are just as many males on the calendar who were virgins as females. One such example is Aquinas, read histoory. His family even hired prostitutes to try to seduce him away from life in the church. He refused.
One of the more prominent new saints is Father Damien, a Belgian priest who dedicated his life to helping lepers in Hawaii, living among them and ...
I saw a question that someone asked earlier about confirmation names w/in the Catholic church, and while I'm not Catholic myself, I find the names and the stories of the Catholic saints to be very interesting. I've paired up a handful of female saints, and I'll let ya'all pick which ones you prefer from each set. I'll make one for male saints here shortly. Have fun :-)

I love saint names! I'm not Catholic either. I consider myself to be a weird sort of Protestant; my theological beliefs are a weird mix of Lutheran, Presbyterian, Quaker/Society of Friends, and American Baptist doctrine, but I attend a Presbyterian church. Go figure that one out. :P Still, I love reading about saints, and if a name I love is a saint's name, it's always an added bonus.
I put a * next to the names I'd use.
Adelaide *
Agatha * (although I love Agnes too)
Anne *
Augusta *
Beatrice *
Bridget
Claudia
Diana
Edith
Flora *
Georgia
Isidora * I prefer the Isadora spelling, though.
Jane *
Julia
Lucy
Maura
Paula
Priscilla *

I make my confirmation in June of '09. I'm a musician, it's basically my entire life. Because of that, I wanted my confirmation name to be the patron saint of musicians. The only problem with that, is that it's Saint Cecilia. I don't want to live my life with a female saint name, and I'm not even sure that's allowed ANYWAY.
Do any of you guys know a male name that would work to incorperate my musical life into my confirmation and subsequently my entire adulthood in the Catholic church?
Here you go, a list of them :)

I'm doing a fact sheet of Joan of Arc. Can you give me some middle school facts about why she is in our history books?
I already have:
1. Joan of Arc was made a saint by the Roman Catholic Church.
2. She is the only known female knight.
3. Joan of Arc was a national heroine of France.
4. She believed her favorite saints urged her to free France.
If you think I shouldn't have a certain fact, just name which one and I'll might fix it.
Here is a long page of facts about Joan of Arc: http://www.maidofheaven.com/joanofarc_qu ick_life_facts.asp

My favorite is ST Bernadette, you might want to consider her!
Bernadette, in her own way, was a real Saint. She endured much suffering, frequent sickness and constant questioning of her experiences, but did not grumble or complain in fulfilling the task laid down by God. Her sickness affected her schooling for the most part unable to read or write. However besides being humble she was honest and could be trusted.
Her Legacy:
In 1858 when Bernadette Soubouris a fourteen year old girl at the time witnessed eighteen Marian apparitions at the Massabielle grotto in the time period between February 11th to April 7, 1885.
Bernadette Soubirous became the saint of Lourdes, France. Visionary and messenger of the Immaculate Conception, she told the very words of the Virgin Mary, spoken in the native Basque tongue of Southern France and Northern Spain. She spoke words teaching of the merits of prayer, penance, poverty and church.
The last three-and-a-half years of Sister Marie-Bernard's life was spent as an invalid. The pain devoured her. But she never lost her sense of humor. On one particular day she was panting and had the death rattle. And the nuns throughout the house worried that perhaps their community was unworthy of this special child of God. Maybe He wanted her in Heaven. But no, toward four o'clock in the morning, Sister Marie-Bernard said to her guardian, "God didn't want me. I got to the door and He said, `Go away! It's too soon!'"

Make Me Ugly, Lord – The Story of St. Brigid of Ireland | FeedAgg.com
Make Me Ugly, Lord – The Story of St. Brigid of Ireland As a Catholic, I love the Saints. As a Catholic living out my Lenten obligation, or trying to, I love them even more when I suffer from lack of chocolate chips in my cookies or from the consumption of burgers on Fridays. Their sufferings make mine so small and so easily doable when I read about their beheadings, the stripes inflicted on their backs by enemies, their faithful adherence to the Truth that set them free even while shackled to prison walls and tied to stakes ready to be burned by their own Church sometimes. For each day in the human calendar, their is a Catholic Saint ready to intercede for a world so far secularized they are numb to the heavenly aides who are available to guide them daily toward Christ. February has its...
Steven Clifford: Get To Know Your Modern Guardian Angel
In Catholic Sunday School, I was taught I had a guardian angel. Only Catholics had Guardian Angels. Protestants didn't need them since they had money and the Country Club.
I have not heard much from my guardian angel lately. Where was she two years ago when I was investing in bank stocks?
Concerned, I consulted the website http://www.catholic-pages.com/angels/guardian.asp which asserted:
"The Church teaches clearly that each of us, throughout our earthly lives, from conception to death, are accompanied, protected and assisted by a personal guardian angel appointed by God.
This explains her inactivity. I never gave her a name, never conversed with her, and never sent to help people who clearly need special protection -- Tiger Woods, Britney Spears, Michael Steele, etc.
