Do people realize that the Catholic Church will never say that the act of homosexual sex is not a sin?

When I say the Catholic Church, I mean the Magisterium.

Magisterium = the bishops in union with the Pope or the Pope by himself.
.

Well of course. The Catholic Church teaches the fullness of truth, just as its founder, Jesus Christ, guaranteed it would. And truth cannot be changed - except to untruth, as has occurred so copiously in manmade denomination religion. If the Catholic Church teaches something today, it will still be teaching that same truth at the end of time.

Magisterium Talk

A talk on the MAgisterium of the Catholic Church by John Stvene (Archdiocesan Youth Minister) for the Edge Halifax on Dec 8 2009

CATHOLIC DISSIDENTS: How do you reconcile personal beliefs that conflict with the teachings of the magisterium

I asked this question before, but unfortunately no "liberal" or "progressive" Catholics answered (I only received condemnatory remarks from strict "conservative" and/or "traditionalist" Catholics).

I don't mind answers from such Catholics, but this question in all fairness is directed towards any Catholic who DISSENTS from ONE OR MORE teachings officially promulgated by the CATHOLIC MAGISTERIUM.

If your beliefs about:
- Contraception
- Sexuality
- Homosexuality / Bisexuality / Transgendered issues
- Abortion
- Ecclesiastical Absolutism
- Voting
- Any other popular, controversial doctrine that I've failed to mention

are at odds with the official teaching of the Catholic Church, PLEASE explain EXACTLY HOW you reconcile the beliefs. Please make appeals to your:

1. Scripture
2. Tradition
3. Church history
4. Reason

in order to justify your position.

Thanks again to everyon who answered the former question and now this one.
Jon M: Ex Cathedra teachings are not the only teachings that a Catholic is supposed to assent to. Under such beliefs then what you're saying is a Catholic only has to believe in the Immaculate Conception of Mary and the Assumption of Mary.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ was never defined ex cathedra (nor was it even defined by the extraordinary magisterium. Are we to believe that a Catholic can dissent from the belief in the resurrection and still be a Catholic (let alone a Christian)?
btw. "infallible" definitions are not just "ex cathedra" teachings of the Pope. The Ordinary magisterium can and does define this infallibly (though its usually more ambiguous).

If all the bishops of the church around the world (not necessarily at the same time) teach a doctrine, then it is considered infallible.

If all the bishops (including the Pope) convene at a council (the extraordinary magisterium) then it is automatically an infallible pronouncement.
Oh and also, before anyone starts labeling me a nazi, or intolerant prick, know that I'm only playing devil's advocate here trying to understand how someone can reconcile a liberal mentality with a conservative organization. I'm an atheist, and a democrat so please don't think I'm supporting bans on contraception, damnation of heretics, or the discrimination against the LGBT community.
h'ayim: Well that's mighty arrogant of you. Did you not bother to read the answers from Jon M and Free Thinker?

It seems that their mere existence negates your assertion that if you disagree with the Pope you are automatically not Catholic.

Heh, you asked the right person.

1. I believe sex before marriage is wrong. I feel that sex is much more fufilling when you actually love the person, and I feel that otherwise you will always be comparing your wife with your other "conquests". However, I feel that, if sex before marriage is necessary (as not everyon in the country agrees with us Christians on this one), birth control is a must. Sure, it's a double-sin, but it otherwise leads to abortions, which are much worse.
However, my wife and I agreed, personally (of course this is not good for everyone) that we would never tell our children to use birth control, and if they ever did get sexually active before marriage (luckilly we never had to deal with this), and had an "unwanted pregnancy", we would adopt it as our own rather than let it go unwanted or be aborted.

2. I believe, no i KNOW that homosexual marriage should be legal. Our religious views have no standing in a court of law. However, I am undecided on whether or not homosexual unions should be blessed by a Church.

3. I do not feel the pope is "infallible". I feel he is a very holy man, and I respect him very much, but I believe he can make a mistake just like anyone else.

4. I do not let any religious decisions affect my voting.

Is a criminal morally obligated by the Catholic Church, even after Confession, to turn himself in?

I've always been curious what the Church expects (or commands or teaches) should happen after a mob boss or child molester confess their crimes to a priest. It would seem that they should have to not only confess to a priest, who represents the Church, but also to the police, who represent Public Society. This has gotta happen to priests, occasionally...any Catholic moral theologians out there who can answer this question? It would be prudant of the Magisterium, imho, to clarify this in light of the recent scandal in the U.S.

Actually, this is something that you should ask an expert about. In this case, an expert on Canon Law. Canon Law usually settles most disputes for us Catholics.

Is the Catholic religion the best? ...see below?

"The Catholic Church is the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ upon St. Peter (Mt. 16:18-20; Jn. 21:15-17). This is proven by history, Scripture and tradition. But the post-Vatican II “Church” is actually a counterfeit “Catholic” sect with new teachings, new practices and a New Mass – which all contradict the Catholic Faith of all times and the teaching of the Catholic popes in history. Vatican II was a council which took place from 1962-1965; this council started a revolution against the Catholic Faith and gave birth to this new countefeit “Catholic” sect. This website proves in tremendous detail that this post-Vatican II sect is not Catholic, that its leaders are not Catholic, that its fruits and teachings are not Catholic and not holy, and that this counterfeit sect was predicted in Sacred Scripture and in Catholic prophecy to arise in the last days as part of the Devil’s final assault on mankind. The arrival of this post-Vatican II counterfeit “Catholic” sect in Rome in the last days actually proves, rather than disproves, the authenticity of the traditional Catholic Faith, as this website shows. Please consult the “Glossary of Terms and Principles” above for a more helpful introduction to the material on this website and for an explanation of the Catholic basis for the conclusions asserted here. It explains such terms as “Magisterium,” the Church’s indefectibility, “ecumenism,” “sedevacantism,” “Papacy,” “Papal Infallibility,” “heretic,” “antipope,” “Novus Ordo,” and others. It also explains important principles about what the Catholic Church teaches about other religions, that heretics cease to be members of the Church, the new teachings after Vatican II, etc."

You may not like the direction the Church has taken, but that still makes it no less the true Church. You must trust in God, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Those who stay within, seeking God, obedient to God and his Church, will find him there. The Holy Spirit can work miracles, and you must trust and have faith.

If the post Vatican II Church is not Catholic, then where is the true Church? It cannot be underground, because that would go against what Jesus promised. The gates of hell will not prevail against his Church, this is a promise. He didn't say there wouldn't be difficulties, only that Satan would not win.

Pray, trust in God, be obedient to the him and to the Church.

Is an extremely attractive movie. Like the book on which it is based, the movie is a very sophisticated story that is very well told. The casting was excellent. Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig (the latest James Bond actor) are joined by others including Sam Elliott and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards, who plays the central role of 11-year-old Lyra Belacqua. Kidman is chilling as the beautiful but evil Marisa Coulter and Craig is perfect as Lord Asriel. Actor Ian McKellen (Gandalf in the trilogy are about as good as the fantasy genre can offer. His characters are believable and the dialogue is constant -- largely due to Pullman's brilliant invention of a companion for each character -- a "daemon."

The bottom line is that these books and this movie will attract a lot of attention and will captivate many readers and viewers.

    RORATE CÆLI

Dear Brothers, in the decades following the Second Vatican Council, some interpreted the opening to the world not as a demand of the missionary ardor of the Heart of Christ, but as a passage to secularization, ... . ... [C]ertain fundamental truths of the faith, such as sin, grace, theological life, and the last things, were not mentioned anymore. Many ecclesial communities senselessly fell into self-secularization; attempting to please those who would not come, they witnessed many whom they had leave them, deceived and disillusioned: those of our time, when they come to us, want to see that which they do not see anywhere else, that is, the joy and hope that come forth from the fact that we are together with the risen Lord. There is today a new generation already born within this secularized...
