Why are non-Catholic churches/parishes named after Saints? I thought only Catholics believed in Saints. I know there are various that are not - COGIC, AME, CME, etc but there are sooooo many that are and are not of the Catholic or Orthodox denomination.
I appreciate any insight my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ can offer!
Bill -- please read the question fully....I didn't say ALL non-Catholic & even gave examples of those that DO NOT. I stated some. you might want to check your phone book on that note. there is St Paul, prot, Church of St Andrew United, meth. St Paul, St John luth.... the list goes on and on these are only a couple.
I was raised Anglican and went to a Lutheran school abit, and I am now Orthodox so I know abit about this subject.
The Anglicans and Luthrans may lack formal canonisation process but they still pay respect to the saints some more so than others- some Anglicans venerate saints in the same manner as Orthodox and Catholics, and will recognise a lot of the saints of both
13 June, Celebrating Saint Anthony of Padua Feast Day St. Anthony is special to me because he was the Saint I chose as my confirmation name. Saint ...
See my confirmation is coming up and we have to choose a name of a saint and I was wondering if she was a saint?
The Catholic Church considers anyone who is in Heaven a Saint, even though they have not been "proclaimed" such so yes, I would say she is. Try to take her name for confirmation and see what happens. Usually though it must be one that is confirmed a Saint by the Church ---one that has been proved a Heavenly citizen by works of miracles on their behalf and stuff like that.

Way more than 36 are there.
Christianity never treated women as objects like the first seven Presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints. Don't believe me? Mormonism was founded on polygamy. Follow the link and read the proof for yourself!
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index? qid=20070708182600AA0aKfm
The last polygamist Mormon president died during World War II. Hmm...not that long ago Mormons! But then the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints is one of the newest churches as well as the only church in America to embrace and condone polygamy.
No other church has embraced polygamy. Brigham Young makes Henry VIII look like a real Saint! In the Catholic church Saint is a title of honor and not merely a name attributed to just anyone. The Roman Catholic Church is the original Christian church founded by Jesus the Christ himself whilst these other churches were founded by men and the teachings of man rather than the teachings of God. Jesus is God, Mormons!
Still confused my friends?
Need even more proof?

justme&3,
You sound just like a man. We don't have to respect women too?
Which is better to have a polygamist that doesn't polyg or a monogamist that doesn't monog? Or for that matter a celibate that doesn't celib?
Finally, I've finished my selection of male saints names for you to compare and choose your favorite from each pair. I did not realize just how many saints there were w/in the Catholic church, lol. Christ is Risen!
It’s worth noting that this is only a few pages after the Story of Pentecost. If Acts is the story of the “Earliest Church”, we’re already screwing it up. In fact, if we turn back a few pages we were a mess even earlier. This church of ours: it’s really rather human, no? And here’s fight from the beginning between what really is “the way we’ve always done it” and “some new thing”. The Church had always been Jewish. And here, at the beginning, is a wrestling match between Jews who are (seemingly) based in Jerusalem, perhaps in the Temple community (the text says many of the priests were coming into the Way of Jesus) on the one hand and Jews who are from the Diaspora. Out and about in the world. They live in among the Gentiles, they even do commerce with them, perhaps have them over for dinner? They may even marry them. They don’t speak much Hebrew, though. They are, if you will, “liberal” or “reform” Jews, if I can be forgiven the 21st century labels. And they get dissed by those in power – the conservatives.

Take the four terms above Catholic, Gay, Saint, Militant conservative(s)... now I would ask you to read this article, this wiki about two canonical saints... now this is the level of attack that is needed to open up this confusion that is conservatism, conserves these two saints, for they are renewed today: Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Sergios kai Bakchos): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saints_Sergius_and_Bacchus St. Stephen aka āglǣca, definitions of names:āglǣca m. 1. (poetic) one who inspires awe; wretch, monster 2. (poetic) combatant, warrior. Stephen: is from the Greek name Στεφανος (Stephanos) meaning "crown". Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death, as told in Acts in the New Testament, and he is regarded as the first Christian martyr. Due to him, the name became...
