Is there a difference between old and new?
No one can answer this unless you tell us what you mean by "old Roman Catholic Church" (RCC) and "new RCC". The "old" RCC could be the RCC before Vatican II - or it could be the "catholic" church before Constantine, or any of several other dates depending on your point of view.

The purpose of this video is to help Protestant Christians and others develop a better understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, its history and ...
The Old Catholic Church's origins is mostly German and a few bordering countries. As far as I can remember, they split from Rome in the 1870's or possibly slightly earlier over a edict made by the Pope regarding Infallibility Interestingly, the Vatican still recognises the validity of their priestly ordinations, much to the chagrin of the Church of England who way back in the 1890's were informed by the Vatican that its orders and sacraments are utterly null and void. Since then and right up to the present members of the Church of England have been ordained by Bishops who were consecrated by Old Catholic Bishops. Looks like they are trying to become valid by the back door!
Assuming Christianity would still be around, don't you think it would be a lot different?
The Bible wouldn't be formed of the same compelation. It would most likely be the Ethiopean Orthodox Bible, or other coptic/gnostic versions.
Fortunately it didn't fail.
Cheers :-)
The "formal" split was an EARLY instance of people trying to DRAG the Roman church BACK to the New Testament church it had LEFT centuries before.
In actuality, the Roman church ABANDONED the New Testament pattern and the "orthodox" churches were trying to hold onto that pattern.
This same conflict came up almost continuously over the next 500 years. The "Lollards" in England had about a dozen primary objections to specific points where the Roman church wasn't the New Testament church. A few hundred years later, Luther nailed his 95 to the chapel door, many of which were part of the Lollards' list.
In reality, the Roman church, as it exists today, dates only to about the fourth century. It is difficult to look at its history and say the specific point where they got "too far" from the New Testament pattern to be recognized by it. At these same times, MANY of the "eastern" churches "fought tooth and nail" the individual departures from Biblical truth... That would make THEM OLDER than the church of Rome.
...that still exists, and preferably still performs Masses
I thought it was the "Catedral Metropolitana de Montevideo" or "Iglesia Matriz", which is more than 200 years old.
