Inquiries about the true rules of the Roman Catholic Church concerning priesthood.?
Tools of the trade

Does a Roman Catholic Priest really have to be chaste/celebate for his entire life?

Is there any way he could leave the Catholic Church to pursue marriage and get married?

What would be the consequences if he fell in love with a nun? -- Would he ever be able to marry her?

If he was ever to embrace and/or kiss someone that he loved (even if it be a nun), would his fate immediately lead to him going to Purgatory and/or Hell?

-- Please answer these if you can. If you could leave the name of the resource you used, it would really help.

Okay, first there are multiple sets of rule depending on whose jurisdiction you are under.

Assuming that you are a Catholic unmarried male under the Patriarchate of Rome, then you must remain celebate for the rest of your life, dedicating your life only to serving God.

On the other hand, if you are a married or unmarried male of one of the Byzantine Metropolia or Patriarchates, then you can become a priest, but not remarry if your spouse would die.

The other 20 odd self governing segments of the Catholic Church have their own rules. I don't know what they do. I believe some require celebacy and some do not.

The rules are an issue of discipline not an issue of belief. No one has a right to be selected to serve a bishop in the presbyterate. If you believe you are called then you could serve, but you have no "right," to serve unless you are ordained to do so. Local rules determine who can and cannot be a priest.

Additionally, rules in Catholicism are generally thought of best as norms rather than laws. The Roman Catholic Church certainly has married men serving as priests, primarily former Anglican priests who switched. Likewise, Byzantine priests who are widowed with children really need a wife pragmatically. Consequently, there are rules to permit marriage as well.

Nonetheless, all Christians are obliged to practice chastity. Of course if you are married that means you need to have sex with your spouse and if you are unmarried you must not have sex with anyone. Priests actually promise never to marry, as such, they must be celebate.

I would say so.
The images of the Bishop of Rome being subjected to attack by bullets and arrows while falling to the ground and sprinkling the blood of the martyrs fits the current situation.

How should the Roman Catholic Church make up for the decline in young man taking up the priesthood?
Ordination Ceremony

Fewer and fewer candidates for priesthood present themselves these days and many British parishes share priests already or are dependent on visiting priests to say mass. How do you think the Church the R.C. community might best maintain its identity and continue to offer traditional means of participation, access to sacraments and spiritual guidance in a period of declining recruitment?

While many see this as a crisis in the church I do not, for too long we have become complacent about the sacraments especially the Mass and Confession.
Statistics show that there is a sharp decline in Mass attendance in most countries and many seem to care less about practising their faith.
Now what a shock it would be if the last Priest in any particular diocese died and was not replaced! maybe people would begin to wake up and start thinking of the implications this would have.
1. No Mass
2. No means to confess our sins.
The Lord promised that His church will prevail and I trust in Him, and while we may well see a further reduction in Priestly numbers I do believe that somehow Christ will save the day.
It may have been forgotten already but in the aftermath of 9/11 formerly lapsed Catholics flocked to Mass and Confession in huge numbers as they realised their own mortality was not something to take for granted anymore, perhaps it will be as a result of a world wide disaster that the church will once more flourish.
Taking God for granted is a very dangerous thing to do,and we have been given a wake up call for many years now, and as scripture tells us``Wake up `oh` sleeper`
As the old adage goes, you never miss what you`ve got `til it`s gone

If the Catholic church is against homosexuality why does it allow so many homosexuals in its priesthood?

False Religion . . .

MEDDLES IN WAR AND POLITICS: “Across Asia and beyond,” says the journal Asiaweek, “power-hungry leaders are cynically manipulating people’s religious sentiments for their own needs.” As a result, the journal warns: “The world threatens to sink into madness.” A prominent religious leader in the United States declared: “You’ve got to kill the terrorists before the killing stops.” His solution? “Blow them all away in the name of the Lord.” By contrast, the Bible says: “If anyone makes the statement: ‘I love God,’ and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar.” (1 John 4:20) Jesus even said: “Continue to love your enemies.” (Matthew 5:44) How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war?

SPREADS FALSE DOCTRINE: Most religions teach that the soul or spirit is some invisible part of a human that survives the death of the physical body. By means of this teaching, many of these religions exploit their members, charging money to pray for departed souls. However, the Bible teaches a different doctrine. “The soul that is sinning—it itself will die.” (Ezekiel 18:4) “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected—an unnecessary action if humans had an immortal soul. (John 11:11-25) Does your religion teach that the soul does not die?

TOLERATES IMMORAL SEX: In Western lands, church groups ordain gay and lesbian members of the clergy and urge governments to recognize same-sex marriages. Even churches that condemn immorality have tolerated religious leaders who have sexually abused children. What, though, does the Bible teach? It plainly states: “Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men . . . will inherit God’s kingdom.” (1 Corinthians 6:9, 10) Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?

What does the future hold for religions that produce rotten fruit? Jesus warned: “Every tree not producing fine fruit gets cut down and thrown into the fire.” (Matthew 7:19) Yes, false religion will be chopped down and destroyed! But how and when will this happen? A prophetic vision recorded in the Bible book of Revelation, chapters 17 and 18, provides the answer.

Just before and during Easter week, another Catholic priest scandal broke, this time in Europe.

"Frankly, when those reports came in, I was shocked that they hadn't handled the situation over there, knowing what had happened here," says Father Robert Moriarty, pastor at the St. Francis Xavior Catholic Parish.

Father Moriarty says nothing is more important to him than protecting children in his parish. When priest abuse surfaced again, he decided to address it.

He felt so strongly about this issue that he wrote several articles in the church bulletin, and also delivered a couple of homilies so that all members of the parish could hear.

"To ignore it in the Church is irresponsible. To ignore it in our society is irresponsible. We...

New child-abuse charge against priest - Chicago Breaking News

Flores, 37, already stands accused of seven felony counts that allege he molested a St. Charles boy from 2005--when the boy was 8--to this year. The abuse took place while Flores, who is a Bolivian citizen, was a seminarian assigned to a West Chicago church, and had become friendly with the boy's family, who were parishioners, authorities say. Flores' attorney, Glenn Sowa, said at the March hearing that the Joliet archdiocese was willing to pay to have Flores attend a Maryland treatment center for religious workers with psychological issues. It was in arguing against the reduced bond that prosecutors first brought up the allegations involving the victim's older brother.

If the Catholic Church would allow priests to marry, they would help their followers enormously. Many people do not know that from its beginnings to about the 11th Century, the Church had many married priests. Property passing on to heirs rather than to the Church prompted the Church to stop accepting married priests. How wonderful it would be for parishes to have a married priest with a family of his own to give advice, rather than someone who has no experience with family. Also, women should be allowed to become priests - no where did Jesus say women weren't allowed in.
