Question concerning a convalidation ceremony in the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland. . .?
Olde chapel near Dungiven

My wife and I were married December 28th of last year and are going to Ireland for our honeymoon in August. We were married in a chapel, but my wife would really like our marriage to be recongnized by the Catholic Church. I thought we could have a small, private ceremony while in Ireland; however, I have no idea what would be the ideal church or ideal place to have the ceremony (it would just be the two of us). We are going to Dublin, Galway, Killarney, Cork, and Kilkenny. Just basically looking for a beautiful, old church in a picturesque part of Ireland. I've had difficulty finding individual churches to contact online and my local church wasn't able to help me as their directory only includes churches within the U.S. Also, I know the local Catholic parish requires 6 months notice in order to marry people. Is this how it works in Ireland as well? Is that really necessary since we're already legally married?

Congratulations!

I suggest you call the diocesan offices of the cities you plan to visit. They will know the rules for convalidation and available churches.

Should Tony Blair be given a formal role in the Roman Catholic Church (Deputy Pope or Chief Priest Envoy etc)?
St Patricks Cathedral, Armagh

The Right Honourable Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is now a Roman Catholic. He is a religious man, but modern and supports women's rights and the rights of gay men and lesbain women. Should he be given a formal role in the Church, I suggest Deputy Pope, so he can use his skills to modernise the Church? The Pope needs someone like Blair to give him guidance.

Absolutely not. The last thing the Church needs is a newly converted Cafeteria Catholic having any authority.

When did Celtic Catholicism become incorporated into the Roman Catholic Church?

I was a bit curious as to a bit of Irish history...so in ancient times, Ireland wasn't yet a part of the Church in Rome, and had its own Celtic Catholic Church? Or was Celtic Catholicism always a part of Roman Catholicism in general?

Could someone please help clear this bit of history up?

Early Irish Christians had some practices that were not in line with the teachings of the church, among them would have been baptising children in milk, there were multiple bishoprics were set up in line with tribal boundaries, high positions in the church were passed throught he family rather then through normal lines of succession as well as the buying & selling of positions and of course there was good old fashioned thieving of assets from monasteries. The monasteries also tended to have a bigger say over how things were run then the Church.

Starting with Synod of Rathbreasil in 1118 they started to bring Ireland into line with the rest of the Church. Starting with re-drawing the diocisean map & reducing the number of bishoprics

It was followed by 3 other Synods.

As Orla C has pointed out Pope Adrian made Henry II 'Lord of Ireland' and he promised to make us behave ourselves.
