Could Alexander the Great's body be in the tomb of Saint Mark?
St. Mark

http://www.alexanderstomb.com/main/index .html

There is a possibility that the bodies were switched. It could all be solved by opening the tomb and carbon testing the body, but the Catholic church won't let it happen. What's more important, preserving the integrity of St Mark's tomb, or discovering the body of Megas Alexandros?

Yes, there is the possibility that the body of "St. Mark" could indeed be the body of Alexander the Great. This topic is brought up in the book "the venetian betrayal", but I'm sure you already read that if you are asking this question. All the facts presented in that book are true, Alexander's body was in Egypt for a long period of time, and shortly after its whereabouts were lost, the "body" of St. Mark was supposedly discovered. Now it could be a coincidence and the body the Catholic Church says is St. Mark's could really be his, but at the same time many relics from back than are not entirely real. I think that finding out if it is the body of Alexander the Great is much more important since he is such a huge historical figure, but the Catholic Church will never allow it because they would never risk the chance that the body isn't St. Mark's.

Do you also believe that the Orthodox Church of Alexandria was not founded by Saint Mark?
Do you believe that the Russian Orthodox Church was not founded by St. Andrew?
Do you believe that the Apostolic Orthodox Armenian Church was not founded by St. Bartholomew and St. Jude Thaddeus?
Do you believe that the Orthodox Syrian Church of India was not founded by St. Thomas?

Have you even heard about these Churches at all?

Jesus is the chief cornerstone. ~Ephesians 2:20~

I strongly believe in Peter's words in Acts 2:38 when he commanded baptism in the name of Jesus.

A very interesting propaganda letter on the Catholic church ?
The Gospel Writers

I want to get back to the user but I don't know what to say

this is the email:

Roman-Catholicism is the Whore of Babylon! Roman-Catholicism is the Whore of Babylon!
the WHORE OF BABYLON is the Roman-Catholic Church. Why? The Bible says in Revelation 17:

1) this harlot sits upon many waters; God says that waters = nations. Well, roman-catholicism is the world's largest Christian church (sorry... so called "Christian") and represents over half of all Christians (so called "Christians") and one-sixth of the world's population;

2) the woman is dressed in purple and scarlet (like the roman-catholic priests, bishops, archbishops etc.); also, Catholicism raised kings during the "Holy" Roman Empire and their clothes had these colours.

3) she is drunken with the blood of the Saints and the martyrs of Christ (the papal inquisition, which killed many true Christians, and lasted for 605 years);
Why? Heresy: reading the Bible, yet not becoming a Catholic

4) sits upon a beast which has 7 heads, but the Bible also tells us that those 7 heads = 7 hills (Rome is built upon 7 hills and it is well known for that);

5) the woman has committed spiritual fornications (pope John Paul 2nd called many religious leaders - muslims, buddhists, hindus, taoists, Jews and others to pray together - the pope said that those religions were all inspired by the same God and led to the same God; he also let buddhists (for example) put their statues in Roman-Catholic churches and to pray there;

6) the woman wears jewels (like the Roman-Catholic priests).

7) This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Catholicism has many Babylonian rituals. Babylonians used to pray to their Heavenly Mother --- Catholic have replaced that pagan goddess with Saint Mary.
The mitre used by Catholic priests looks like the Babylonian ones.
Catholic priests are not allowed to marry; this is again a Babylonian and Egyptian rule.

8) "The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king" Rev. 17:11
King represent a kingdom. The greatest kingdoms were:
1) Egypt
2) Assyria
3) Babylon
4) Persia
5) Greece
6) pagan Rome
7) papal Rome

In the past, (papal) Rome was also associated with Catholicism because Rome is the center of Catholicism.

9)"The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire." Rev. 17:16 ---> I think you have heard of the French Revolution. They attacked Rome, killed the priests, took the pope as a prisoner and burnt the city.

All in all, the WHORE OF BABYLON is the Roman-Catholic Church.

Also, the Bible speaks of a false prophet who will make the world worship the beast (Antichrist) and receive his mark --- 666.

The Bible says that false prophet has 2 horns as a lamb, but speaks as a dragon.
Well, Jesus Christ is identified as "the Holy Lamb of God", so this false prophet will likely try to take the place of Christ. The pope calls himself: holy father, his holiness, Vicarius Filii Dei (the Vicar of Christ).
So, this prophet will be "a wolf clothed as a sheep", so he will make people believe he is good.
"Speaks like a dragon" --- satan is identified as a DRAGON, and he is called the "father of all lies", so this false prophet will lie, but will make many go to him, rather than to Christ. The pope wants to take the place of God, calling himself "VICAR OF CHRIST". However, the Bible says that the Vicar of Christ is the Holy Spirit (only God can replace Himself). Many worship the pope and pray to his statues and think he is really a good person and is chosen by God, but as we both know, the word "pope" isn't mentioned in the Bible not even ONCE, but it is a tradition of man, which God condemns. The pope is not the Vicar of Christ.
Returning to the '2 horns', we will notice that the mitre which the pope uses, has 2 equal parts (it is divided into 2 parts).

The Bible says that this FALSE PROPHET will make the whole world worship Antichrist, so this "vicar of Christ" will have great influence in the world. As we can see, the pope is the best known religious leader and the most loved and appreciated.
Look at John Paul 2nd - many people loved him and were extremely sad when he died (in 2005).
I conclusion, I think that the FALSE PROPHET will be (maybe the next) a pope.

It seems like only the pope can be the false prophet.

Hunting the Whore of Babylon
Some anti-Catholics claim the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon of Revelation 17 and 18. Dave Hunt, in his 1994 book, A Woman Rides the Beast, presents nine arguments to try to prove this. His claims are a useful summary of those commonly used by Fundamentalists, and an examination of them shows why they don’t work.

What do you know about Saint John The Baptist?
The Gospel Writers

Because of his pride Herod, though deeply sorry, could not decline the request; thus, as Saint Augustine says, "an oath rashly taken was criminally kept." He sent a soldier of the guard to behead John in prison. Thus, the "voice crying in the wilderness" was silenced. The head was placed on a platter and taken to Salome, who gave it to her mother.

1st century. Shortly after he had baptized Jesus, John the Baptist began to denounce Herod Antipas, the tetarch of Galilee. Herod had divorced his own wife and taken Herodias, the wife of his half- brother Philip and also his own niece. John the Baptist declared, "I is not lawful for you to have her," so Herod threw him into prison.

Not only did Herod fear John and his disciples, he also knew him to be a righteous man, so he did not kill him. Herodias determined to bring about John's death. From prison John followed Jesus's ministry, and sent messengers to question him (Luke 7:19-29). One day Herod gave a fine banquet to celebrate his birthday. His entire court was present as well as other powerful and influential Palestinians. Herodias's daughter Salome so pleased Herod when she danced to entertain the company that he promised her whatever she would ask--even half of his kingdom. Salome asked her mother for counsel and was told to request the head of the Baptist (Matthew 14:1-12).

St. John the Baptist – STATUE – ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

Donatello, signed and dated 1438
(cleaning and restoration, 1973,
Professor and Mrs. John McAndrew)
The completion date of the wooden sculpture of St. John the Baptist, executed by the Florentine master Donatello, had been under dispute for many decades. The 1973 restoration revealed a signature and date of 1438, at last putting to rest the scholarly debate. The date confirms that Donatello carved the sculpture in Florence for the Venetian confraternity of the Florentines. They commissioned a master from their home town to create this sculpture of their patron saint. Donatello rewarded them with a work remarkable for its naturalism and human pathos. It must have greatly impressed and influenced Venetian artists and audiences.

Commentarys on the Gospel of Saint Mathew–22—by Swami Nirmalananda Giri

Jerusalem and Judaea represent the higher reaches of our consciousness which respond to the inner call to prepare for Christhood. In one way of looking at it, they are the only ones who can respond. The others just do not have the “ears to hear.”

Baptism

The ultimate Jordan is Divine Consciousness: God. And the ultimate baptism is immersion in God. “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”1 The supreme mystic of the Eastern Church, Saint Simeon the New Theologian, says that unless we know Christ intimately through union we have not really been baptized in Christ, but only made wet by water.

In meditation our “confessing” of sins occurs when they float up to the surface of our consciousness and are beheld by us and dissolved in the light invoked by meditation. The Revelation of Saint John refers to this symbolically when it says: “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.”4 The confessing of sins at the baptism of Saint John also represents our letting go of them. For when we are addicted to negativity in any form we clutch on to it. In India they use the simile of the camel who keeps on chewing the nettles even though they pierce its mouth and make it bleed. So the inner baptism is also the letting go of sin.

Since you have told us everything there is to know, why did you ask the question?

Are there ANY Catholic's out there who can defend their doctrine?
The Gospel Writers

Can you answer these claims that your doctrine and practices are not Biblical, using your Bible! We don't need any smart remarks.. I just want to know if you can defend your doctrine with the Bible, or are you just adhering to Catholic doctrine and practices due to traditions.. and you have never really analyzed it. I am going to use the "New American Standard" Bible, because from what i understand, that bible is that the Catholic church uses. You can use whatever Bible you like though.~

1. Calling the Priests "Father". Bible says: Matthew 23:9
"Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven."

2. Using repetitive words using Rosary beads, and in other prayers. Bible says: Matthew 6:7 "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words."

3. The Pope says that only very special dead Catholic people can be called "Saints". Bible refers to all Christians as Saints. 1 Corinthians 1:2 "To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours"
Also Romans 1:7 "to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. " ALSO see Ephesians 1:1, and Philippians 1:1.

4. The Parish leader is the only one who is called "Priest" when in fact all Christians are priests according the bible.
Bible says: 1 Peter 2:5 "you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" ALSO 1 Peter 2:9 "But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; " ALSO Revelation 1:6 "and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father--to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen." ALSO Revelation 5:10 "You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth."

5. Bishops (Overseers of the Church) are not allowed to marry. The Bible states the Contrary: 1 Timothy 3:2-5 "An overseer (Bishop in other translations), then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.
He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity
but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?" BTW: Celibacy was first enforced upon Priests in 1070 A.D. ALSO Peter who is supposedly the first "Pope" was married himself: Mark 1:30 "Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they spoke to Jesus about her."

6. Catholic's praying to dead "Saints": The issue of Catholics praying to saints is one that is full of confusion. It is the official position of the Roman Catholic Church that Catholics do not pray TO saints or Mary, but rather that Catholics can ask saints or Mary to pray FOR them. The official position of the Roman Catholic Church is that asking saints for their prayers is no different than asking someone here on earth to pray for you. However, the practice of many Catholics diverges from official Roman Catholic teaching. Many Catholics DO in fact pray directly to saints and/or Mary, asking them for help – instead of asking the saints and/or Mary to intercede with God for help. Whatever the case, whether a saint or Mary is being prayed to, or asked to pray, neither practice has any Biblical basis.
The Bible nowhere instructs believers in Christ to pray to anyone other than God. The Bible nowhere encourages, or even mentions, believers asking individuals in Heaven for their prayers. Why, then, do many Catholic pray to Mary and/or the saints, or request their prayers? Catholics view Mary and saints as "intercessors" before God. They believe that a saint, who is glorified in Heaven, has more "direct access" to God than we do. Therefore, if a saint delivers a prayer to God, it is more effective than us praying to God directly. This concept is blatantly unbiblical. Hebrews 4:16 tells us that we, believers here on earth, can "...approach the throne of grace with confidence..."
1 Timothy 2:5 declares, "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." There is no one else that can mediate with God for us. If Jesus is the ONLY mediator, that indicates Mary and saints cannot be mediators. They cannot mediate our prayer requests to God. Further, the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ Himself is interceding for us before the Father, "Therefore He is able to sa
SpiritRo.. You have NO idea what you are talking about. This is what the Bibles says, and THIS is what be believe: Romans 10:8-18 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
And Romans 10:14 "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
Maryasia, you didn't use ANY scripture to back up your views.
Let me also add, i am seriously trying to find some common ground because this division thing is not good for the body of Christ. It just seems to me (Being raised Catholic through high school) nothing lines up with the bible, which is the word of God, of which doctrine should be based.
mama: It is not hypocritical to want to be grounded in TRUTH in your beliefs, and not follow blindly like a sheep.
Sparky : Thank you, you are making some sense.. this is what i want. I am the type of person who wants to make logical choices in my beliefs. The reason i posted this is because i am trying to find common ground with Catholics, and understand their views. I believe all denominations are part of the body of Christ, and there are NONE that are perfect. I was raised Catholic, did not enjoy it. Came back to Christ later in life. My mother who was raised Catholic fell away from Christianity for about 10 years.. and i have been praying for her and she suddenly decided she wants to go to a Catholic church, which is God working on her heart.. and i want to go with her. I have bitterness in me due to my past and what i view as "flaws" in the Catholic church. Having some rational answers to my questions, will help me to not feel like a hypocrite when i go with her to the Catholic church tomorrow.
Wolf: Actually i don't hate anyone. I just get annoyed with blind followers, and I DON"T want to be one. Thank you for your answers that make sense.. the Father thing though, the scripture you refer is about praying to God, which Jesus said to do. I want to understand the Catholic faith, and i am NOT just saying that. There is a lot of misinformation on both sides. I want to hear the answer to these questions from Catholics. As i said, i am going to a Catholic church tomorrow with my mom. Haven't been to one since high school, and if i can, i want to be able to enjoy it. It's unfortunate that there is so much confusion with beliefs on both sides.
Thank you LH Catholic i WILL look those things up. AND goodness people i SERIOUSLY am looking for truth. I am taking these things into consideration. After doing a thorough investigation on both sides... i have a feeling i will find that... there are no perfect denominations..
Wolf, thanks for the second edit ;). I appreciate it, and i apologize for coming off harsh. I wanted to bring the questions up that i have heard, and hear Catholic responses. Because as i said it is confusing. I DO consider us all part of the body of Christ, and i believe we all have good intentions, and a zeal for God, which is the most important thing. It will all be resolved when Christ returns. I know that God is calling my mom back to him spiritually. I have praying for her for 4 years, since i came back to Christ. She was into different "spiritual" beliefs, but wanted nothing to do with Christ from what i could tell. I believe that her now wanting to start attending the Catholic church is God's answer to my prayer. At first, i tried to convince her to come to my church, but i believe God has been putting it in my heart that it is his will for her to go to the Catholic church, after all, she went to a Catholic school growing up. I believe i should go with her for support
SpiritRo, i really don't know who you heard say that when you come to Jesus your life will be Roses. Jesus said i didn't come to bring peace but a sword, Father against son, daughter against mother. And i experienced both of those, and loss of Friends. You do experience more joy even in the midst of these things though. SO i agree with you there... not sure who you heard say that.
Misty: Thanks for the good points to consider.

I realize from the beginning that you are going to whine, distort, and deny any answers given to you by a Catholic -- that's what bigots do, after all. But here goes:

1) According to your logic, both St. Paul and St. John are in violation of Jesus' words:

1 Corinthians 4:15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

1John 2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.

So either Jesus was referring to those who wanted to be seen as spiritual leaders and be called father without valid reason, or else those two Bible passages are wrong and should be removed. Your call.

2) Operative word: vain. Again, if your logic is correct, we need to remove this entire passage:

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. (etc.)

When we pray the Rosary, we are meditating on the life of Christ. There is nothing "vain" about praying in that manner. Of course, I'm sure you see nothing wrong with repeating the "Our Father" because it's you and not a Catholic praying it.

3) Nope, that's not what the Pope says or the Church teaches. As per the passage you quote, all believers are saints. Some people live lives of exceptional holiness, love for God, and care for His people, and they are examples for the rest of us saints to follow. Their sanctity is recognized by the Church, and they are the capital letter 'Saints.'

4) God has no problem with priests, so why do you?

Hebrews 7:1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him.

You have pastors who, by your own words, are priests. In fact, you could call your minister a priest and be techically correct.

What your pastors do NOT have is the spiritual authority given to St. Peter by Christ and passed down to his successors, the Popes and priests. Your ministers were not empowered to consecrate the Holy Eucharist or to forgive and retain sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance.

That's the difference between a Catholic priest and a "priest" of any other denomination -- spiritual authority given by Christ to a specific group of men.

5) Priests have the same right to marry as any of the rest of us. They have to choose between marriage and a celibate priesthood, that's all. But they aren't forbidden to marry.

On the same subject, St. Paul expresses his own opinion:

1 Corinthians 7:7-8 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

Seems he didn't have any problem with celibacy. . .so what's yours?

6) Oh, so you're once again rewriting Scripture to suit yourself, I see. Jesus said that all are alive to God.

Luke 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

If believers are alive in Heaven, then I can ask them to pray for me, just as you ask a friend at church or a family member to pray for you. If you've ever done that, then you're as "guilty" as any Catholic you're accusing.

And about this mediator thing: it's not our fault that you don't understand the difference between mediation and intercession. A mediator is one who settles a dispute between two parties at enmity with each other: in this case, man and God.

Jesus is the only Mediator, that's true, because He is the only One Who can meet God's criteria to settle the dispute between sinful man and holy God. His sacrifice on the Cross meets God's criteria to wash away our sins.

However, Jesus is NOT our only Intercessor. An intercessor is one who speaks on behalf of another person to a figure of authority. We are all called upon to intercede for each other:

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Etc.

Once again, either the Bible is lying or you are. Take your pick.

So there are your Scriptural answers to all of your protests, complaints, and general silliness. If you had genuinely wanted answers, you could have done a site search and seen the hundreds of repetitions of your questions. . .and the answers given by Catholics who know what they believe and why.

And yes, a lot of us are tired of alleged ex-Catholics coming here and demonstrating by their hatred and prejudice that they were Catholic in name only. If you went through Confirmation classes, you should already know the answers to all of your questions. You may not agree with them, and that's your privilege.

But to come here and demand that we respond exactly the way you think we ought to is about as snide and self-righteous as it gets. Try showing a little respect for your Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ, and you'd be suprised how reasonable and respectful we can be, in return.

One more thing. Please don't try to hide behind the "Oh, I'm just trying to find common ground because this division thing is not good for the Body of Christ" hypocrisy. The only person you're fooling with that crock of "Oh, I'm not prejudiced, I just looooove everyone (except you Catholics)" cr@pola is yourself.

The rest of us see you for exactly what you are -- a hater of the brethren, a hypocrite, and a bigot.

Edit:

Incidentally, "Sola Scriptura" is an unscriptural doctrine. Sacred Tradition and the teachings of the scholars of the Church existed long before the Bible was codified (by Catholics, I might add.) There are many documents extant that prove the Church had beliefs and practices passed down from the earliest days -- long before the Bible came into being. Sola Scriptura was a doctrine Luther proposed to support his own heretical beliefs and practices.

The Bible is not the be-all, end-all of God's instructions and intentions for His Church. Anyone who subscribes to Sola Scriptura is as guilty of heresy as Luther.

Edit#2

I see the real you in that last comment, and I can respect that. If you had come to us with that attitude first, most of us who have done anything to help you find the answers you need and not lashed out at you.

I will also apologize for my anger and bitterness. Keep in mind that most of us who deal with the Catholic haters on this Forum are pretty raw by now. We love our Protestant brothers and sisters in Christ, and it hurts to be treated as if we are somehow second-class citizens in the Kingdom of God. . .or worse still, not citizens of Heaven at all.

I hope you can find peace and joy in the Presence of Christ when you go to Mass with your Mom. Trust me -- He *will* be there for you and all those who love Him.

And suddenly she was Eva McCall Hamilton, the first woman elected to the Michigan state legislature in 1920.

The 11-year-old student at St. Mark Catholic School was part of the school’s State-in-a-Box presentation Tuesday. It’s been an annual tradition at St. Mark for the last six years.

Think science fair, only social studies.

Children in Christine Quinn’s fifth grade social studies classes picked their favorite state, spent two months learning about it, built exhibits about each state using 6-feet-tall refrigerator boxes and dressed up as a famous character from that state.

Fifty refrigerator boxes thoroughly painted and pasted with state factoids lined the church’s parish hall. Each school class filed through listening to each child’s presentation and asking questions about his or her state. St. Mark students voted for their favorite box, and the fifth grade sang a state capital rap song.
