Is it natural for people to talk this way about a big church movement?

Okay, in about 2004, our parish had to make a big decision on closing churches within our parish. We had to close 3 churches out of 4; (keeping 1). St. Stanislaus, Holy Trinity, and Christ the King Catholic churches were closed. We had to keep 1 church, St. Veronica. Saint Veronica was relatively a small worship site, but it also had held important events such as our Parish Festival, and our Cafeteria where our dinners were held for our profits. Saint Veronica Catholic Church was small, but big in building the community. The church is big inside, and has a lot of space, however, it was first to be a gym for the Catholic School, but then they decided to make it a church, so, it's not as big as a regular church, however, big enough to hold around 1,000-2,000 people. So, after the church renovated, and brought things from all churches, it was a new worship space. Now, people, when it was renovated, and a while after we began using it, people were saying "It's too small", and "Not a nice church", etc. Are they saying this because they are upset that their church closed?

People are resistant to change, and unfortunately church people sometimes become so attached to their buildings and the furnishings within them that they forget why the churches existed in the first place. They become emotionally and usually sentimentally entrenched in the color of the carpet, the paraments someone made in 1977, the hymnal that is now outdated, etc.

So yes, I think it is safe to say that they are upset about "their" church closing, and they want everyone else to suffer for it.

The priest is going to have to work hard to stop this poison by working counteractive to it -- working with intentionality to change peoples' hearts on the matter.

Female Saints -- Which Would You Choose?

I saw a question that someone asked earlier about confirmation names w/in the Catholic church, and while I'm not Catholic myself, I find the names and the stories of the Catholic saints to be very interesting. I've paired up a handful of female saints, and I'll let ya'all pick which ones you prefer from each set. I'll make one for male saints here shortly. Have fun :-)

I love saint names! I'm not Catholic either. I consider myself to be a weird sort of Protestant; my theological beliefs are a weird mix of Lutheran, Presbyterian, Quaker/Society of Friends, and American Baptist doctrine, but I attend a Presbyterian church. Go figure that one out. :P Still, I love reading about saints, and if a name I love is a saint's name, it's always an added bonus.

I put a * next to the names I'd use.

Adelaide *
Agatha * (although I love Agnes too)
Anne *
Augusta *
Beatrice *
Bridget
Claudia
Diana
Edith
Flora *
Georgia
Isidora * I prefer the Isadora spelling, though.
Jane *
Julia
Lucy
Maura
Paula
Priscilla *
Teresa

No contraceptive pharmacy closes - CathNewsUSA

A prolife northern Virginia pharmacy that refused to sell contraceptives

DMC Pharmacy, a pro-life Catholic pharmacy that opened with much fanfare in Chantilly, Va., in October 2008, closed last month because of lack of funds, The Washington Times reports.

"We could not make it work financially," said Robert Laird, executive director for the pharmacy, whose letters stood for Divine Mercy Care. "We could never get that big push to make it viable and finally the board of directors said enough was enough."

By the time the store closed March 4, it was losing in the tens of thousands of dollars per month. When it opened 18 months ago at a cost of $350,000 just as the national economy was in a free fall, the 1,500-square-foot store did not stock birth control pills, condoms, cigarettes or pornographic magazines.

St. Veronica | Catholic Exchange

St. Veronica is preserved in Catholic tradition by the sixth Station of the Cross as the woman who wiped the face of Jesus on His way to Calvary. Tradition tells us that Jesus fell three times while carrying His Cross to His crucifixion. A woman emerged from the crowd of spectators and knelt down to wipe His face. It is said that when she later looked at the cloth, His holy image was imprinted on it.

While there is no historical proof that this event actually took place, there is a veil that is venerated as a relic which was used by Veronica to cure Emperor Tiberius of an unknown illness. The veil of Veronica, or Veronica’s veil as it has come to be known, was recorded as being in Rome in the eighth century and placed in St. Peter’s by Pope Boniface VII in 1297. There is virtually nothing else known about Saint Veronica except in the apocryphal Acts of Pilate, in which she is identified as the woman written about in the Gospel of Matthew who suffered with the issue of blood.
