Re the question, shouldn't Catholics honor him by paying attention to the environment on more than just one day?

How could St. Francis of Assisi perform miracles if he was Catholic?
VICKY MANNING DAVIS - A CENTURY OF GRACE - ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

all the time i hear how evil the Catholic Church is and how its a cult. If this is true then how come the Holy Spirit allowed St. Francis of Assisi to perform miracles.

We know more of St. Francis than of any other medieval saint. Not only have we his own words, his Rule, Testament, letters, poems, and liturgical writings, but also the intimate accounts of several of his disciples, written down within twenty years after his death.

St. Francis is one saint whom both Catholics and non-Catholics have united in honoring. Certainly no other has so appealed to Protestants and even to non-Christians. And the appeal is timeless: Francis captured the imagination of his contemporaries as well as that of modern men by his unique simplicity and a pure grace of spirit.

Canticle of the Sun

O most high, almighty, good Lord God, to Thee belong praise, glory, honor, and all blessing! By Thee alone, Most High, were all things made and no man is worthy to speak Thy name. Praised be my Lord with all his creatures, especially Messer Brother Sun, who brings us the day and brings us the light; fair is he and shining with a very great splendor; Most High, he signifies to us Thee! Praised be my Lord for Sister Moon, and for the stars, the which He has set in heaven clear and precious and lovely. Praised be my Lord for Brother Wind, and for air and cloud, calms and all weather, by the which Thou upholdest life in Thy creatures. Praised be my Lord for Sister Water, who is very serviceable unto us, and humble, and precious, and clean. Praised be my Lord for Brother Fire, through whom Thou givest us light in the night; and he is beautiful and joyous, and very mighty, and strong. Praised be my Lord for our Sister, Mother Earth, who doth sustain us and keep us, and bring forth divers fruits, and flowers of many colors, and grass. Praised be my Lord for those who pardon one another for His love's sake, and who endure weakness and tribulation; blessed are they who peaceably endure, for by Thee, Most Highest, shall they be crowned. Praised be my Lord for our sister the death of the body, from whom no man living can escape. Woe unto them who die in mortal sin. Blessed are they who are found walking by Thy most holy will, for the second death shall do them no harm. Praise ye and bless my Lord, and give thanks unto Him and serve Him with great humility.

Why is the Catholic Church extremely skeptical in validating various religious miracles?
VICKY MANNING DAVIS - A CENTURY OF GRACE - ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI 008

Such as stigmata and Demon Possessions. Plus why does the church sometimes ask scientists to investigate such claims.

I read that only case of stigmata that the Catholic Church backs is that of St.Francis Assisi.
I should of said claims not miracles. Anyway, does the Catholic Church have their own scientists to investigate these claims or do they use outside sources?

St Pio was a genuine stigmata bearer. He died in 1968 in Italy. He was a priest. The Church always looks for natural and scientific explanations before She begins to investigate the supernatural. If there is an earthly explanation, there probably wasn't a miracle. We still have exorcists in our Church, we still acknowledge demons. Lourdes, for example, there are secular Dr's. there to investigate miraculous healings. The Church has never rejected science, some of the premier scientists of history were Catholics, and educated in Catholic universities. Pax Christi

  • One step closer to sainthood « Today#39;s Catholic News

Mother Maria Theresia Bonzel, foundress of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration, was recognized for heroic virtue and named “Venerable” by Pope Benedict XVI. That is considered a step toward being named a saint, paving the way for possible beatification and canonization.

The Sisters, whose provincial house is located in Mishawaka, say they have been praying for Mother Theresia’s cause for sainthood since she was recommended in 1961. They heard the news in an unexpected way, waiting for the Chrism Mass to begin last Monday evening. Father Daryl Rybicki, pastor of Corpus Christi Parish, broke the story.

“He scared me to death!” recalls Sister Angela Mellady, provincial superior. “He came up to me and said, ‘Congratulations!’ I said, ‘For what?’ and he said, ‘Your foundress!’ What was funny is we just had a community meeting and I jokingly said to the sisters I was expecting we wouldn’t have to hear the news on (the news outlet) Zenit!”

Sic Semper Tyrannis : John Waring on Francis

The original sin, as it were, of the Catholic Church is clericalism, the belief among the ordained that they are the Church. Thus the bishops bend over backwards to protect members of the priestly caste, and ignore their Christian duty to protect the young and vulnerable. I would like to remind the ordained, should any be reading this thread, that one of the greatest saints in Christendom remained a member of the laity. St. Francis of Assisi was never ordained. In the early Church the honorific, Father, was unknown. The presbyter was called "brother". The older I get the more drawn to Francis I become. The idea that once you possess Jesus Christ you have everything and need little else, and that therefore you can live as an itinerant beggar appeals to me more and...
