A question for all (In honor of St. Patty's Day)...?

The Roman Catholic Church has a Patron Saint for everything from Advertising (St. Bernadine) and Bee Keeping (St. Ambrose) to Venereal disease (St. Fiacre) and Waitresses (St. Martha).

So, if you were made into a Patron Saint, what would your cause be?
LOL These are pretty good! I think I would be Celestian Vega-Patron Saint of Spellcasting (Hey, I like the sound of that!)

Long enough pants.

should religion determine if a hospital tells you the sex of your baby before it's born?

I have an ultra sound coming up next friday, and I will be 19 weeks. I asked my cousin if they will tell me the sex of the baby if i ask, and she said at the hospital I am going to (it is called St. Martha's, and was run by nun's in the past, very involved with catholic church), which is where she went too, that they wont tell me because it is against their religion. I asked if they gave her any pics of the ultrasound, and she said no,that its also againstt he religion. She even tried to take a picture herself with her own camera and the tech feaked out at her. Can someone explain to me what this is abouot and how a government funded public hospital in a public health care system be allowed to act this way. I can always go to UC Baby, which I wanted to, but with a baby on the way $200 is a lot of money to spend on something I dont need. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. Is it usually at the discretion of the hospital to tell you the sex? I am pretty disappointed.
i can understand the whole not wanting someone to abort the baby if they arent happy with the sex, but at 19 weeks you cant even get an abortion in nova scotia, or even canada period. i figured it's probably the reason or part of it, but i would like to know so bad!! my cousin had the same doc i have and he told her when she asked that he wont tell her because he works for the hospital too. I guess i have to go to UC baby. better to spend $200 on that than even more on baby stuff i can't use! lol

This is very common. I have had baby's in BC and in Alberta and have been told I can not be told the sex because it is against the hospitals and ultra sounds clinics policy. When I asked why, they told me it was because some people abort if they are not happy with the sex of the baby. Ask your doctor to request the sex of the baby, sometimes that helps, good luck

[Ed. Note:  The Presiding Bishop is quoted as saying, "We won't tell you what to think."  That's what the Unitarians say about their Church.  My understanding is that Christianity - yes, even the Episcopal Church - does hold several truths to be irrefutable.   She also said, “He (Jesus) dealt with all the categories that were deemed unacceptable in His day, and He said, ‘There’s a place for you at my table.’”  My persistent question in response to this statement is why don't you quote Jesus saying, "Go and sin no more?"  Sin is a pervasive human problem that separates men and women from God.  Gay or straight, ALL OF US sin, even when we are trying very hard not to.  Jesus died on the cross to set us free from our sin, not to acclaim and accept it or normalize it.  Cheryl M. Eagle Scout project provides church outdoor space :: The Valley News

Nick Axline is a life scout in Temecula Troop 337. He recently completed his Eagle Scout project.

The 14-year-old freshman at Temecula Valley high School set out to do a project that would restore an outdoor gathering space at Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Garden at St. Marthas Catholic Church in Murrieta to provide the church with new meeting rooms.

"The church was in dire need of this job and I wanted to fill that need for them, because of all that the church has done for me," he said of the 65 ft. x 38 ft. garden.

The job involved the removal of dead landscaping, weeds, sprinkler hose and broken and loose tiles. He also removed and stored decorative tiles previously donated by parishioners for display at a later time.

The project also included digging a trench for electrical wiring for the lights, leveling the area, installing weed stop and gravel over the entire open area, and laying an access path from a fountain to and around the statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe with paving stones. He had 25 Scouts and 15 adults work on the project over two days, and a total of 495 hours served.
