Whenever I go to Bay St. Louis, Ms. I attend Sunday masses at St. Rose De Lima Catholic Church. It's quite a famous little church. It dates back to the Jim Crow days when whites and blacks weren't allowed to tend services together.
The music is great and the choir can make your short hairs stand up. The piano player sounds like Ray Charles and he jams. I love it.
I don't understand why Rev. Wright thinks that whites can't appreciate black music. MoTown is one of my favorite styles of music. My kids listen to rap made by black artists all the time.
I listened to Rev. Wright yesterday and it seemed to me that he was trying to say that whites can't appreciate black artist and blacks can't appreciate white artist. He was trying to say that we have a communication gap, but he didn't offer any solutions.
I don't think there is a communication gap, do you? I think we do appreciate each others music, don't you? So why is Rev. Wright trying to imply that we can't communicate?
Joe, I'm 51 years old. Reverend Wright may be older than me, but not that much older than me. It's not a generation gap. It's a perception gap. You have to understand that some people prosper from fomenting the differences between the races. After all what purpose would there be for an NAACP if there were no differences? So isn't it in the NAACP's best interest to continue the differences if their very existance depends upon those differences?
I haven't attended a church where it was prodominately black, but my husband has and says its awesome. You look at churches where its either all white or almost all white and we are "BORING" to many extents. I would love to find a church as you have, yet the only thing that holds me back, "Churches and their congregation that tend to judge". I don't think I will ever find one that doesn't.
I think the Rev. Wright that you are speaking of just speaks from his experiences in life. Its sad that we have situations out their like this where people tend to think that we can't enjoy music that doesn't go with our heritage.
It is sad that "he" of all people would speak of this. There are definately some white Americans out their that don't understand the African American Man or Woman and their music. But hey, I've seen a "black man on a harley" which in my upbringing. That was a white thing. I've seen a black man into country music, going as far as wearing a cowboy hat and boots, I thought that was a white man thing. Look at Eminem. A white Man doing rap. I still to this day am trying to figure that one out just because it doesn't register right with me, but we all have our own taste. Your Reverand I believe looks inside the box when he actually needs to look outside the box. There are some African American people out their that find peace among a church full of Whites. Now, also. Look at Jesse Duplantis. A white man that preaches as if he were of a different color. This man will get your attention and keep it. He is an amazing Reverend.
I just think that some Reverends out their are more close minded than others, we aren't going to change them. They will preach what they believe. You can always bring it to his attention how you feel. And if God lays heavy on his heart about the message he sent out to you and all who were their, Then he will most likely come back with an apology.
Our world is changing. Thank God himself that it is getting a little easier in certain areas of the country as time goes by. Yet some people whether White or Black, just don't want to forget about the past. Their are Whites out their that believe that Blacks have no place here. Their are some Blacks that believe they should get their just rewards for the past of what the white man has done to them. But, we also need to remember, "We didn't live way back when". That was the past. The furthest my past has gone back was 1972 and thats when I was born. No one should be held accountable for what happened in the old days. Everyone needs to just learn from it, embrace that they weren't involved and help us all to overcome it. Their are so many hardships out their for people to endure. If people turn for love, comfort and understanding at a church. I would hope that they will be loved, comforted, understood and accepted for being Gods child and not White or Black.
