It's something like "invokational" or "appreciational" or something.
Or maybe it doesn't end in "ational" but it means like a statuette that helps you remember and worship or something. It doesn't necessarily have to be Catholic, but I can't think of others who use the little statuettes.
I've trying to remember this word for 24 hours and I keep searching the internet, but it's not giving me the right word. I'll remember it when I see it.
They're merely called statuettes. I used to have a tin one of St. Elizabeth Seton.
I think the word you're thinking of is devotional, but that would not be the proper name for the item. A devotional is more along the lines of the prayers that one says when wearing a scapular, or when saying a novena.

I go to a Catholic church, and they cover all statues of Jesus, the crucifix, and the statues of saints in red cloth. I've heard that it is to remind us that Jesus didn't have to die, but I'd rather have a more detailed explanation. And that also doesn't explain why we cover up the saints. Should I cover up my crucifixes at home?
This tradition is most common from the close of Holy Thursday through the Easter vigil and occurs with the removal of the Holy Eucharist from the Tabernacle. It is a visual reminder that we are separated from Jesus and adds to our joy on Easter when we are back in the Presence the Resurrected Christ. Peace.

The statues are simply objects to remind us of the holy ones that have passed before us. Many people feel comforted by the depictions of persons as opposed to the vague idea of saints. The statues both beautify the church and remind parishioners of the men and women gone before them, marked with the sign of faith.
Well, perhaps not statues, but something similar might be. Only in the middle ages. Before that it was illegal to be Catholic and they could burn you, throw you to the lions, etc, etc
Say, kings are not commonly declared saints. The ones who have been, as far as I know, are the king of France Louis IX and Fernando III de Castilla
