If i attend mass at a Byzantine Catholic Church for a Normal Sunday Mass will it count for Roman Catholics?
Golden Glow

There is this Byzantine Catholic Church down the street from me which is very convenient but the Catholic Church in my township is farther away and can be an inconvience to go to at times. By going to a Byzantine Catholic Church for a Sunday or Holy Day service, will my attendance count for a regular Roman Catholic Church Sunday.

what is the byzantine catholic rite church?
Dawn At The Sacré-Cœur

I am a roman catholic. I walked in to a byzantine catholic church by mistake and thought it was a catholic one because of its similariity from the outside, and the chants. Everything was going ok, except that the priest was on his back, but i thought what the hell? they did this a long time ago anyways... and then At the time of communion, the priest got a spoon and fed everyone a spoonfull of something that tasted like fruit-pie and wine.. what was that? I couldnt get out of the line so i had to take te spoonfull.. lol what was it? what are the differences between roman catholics and byzantine catholics? why does the priest give mass on his back? please help me understand where i went and what i tasted ! thanks

You were most likely attending a Catholic Mass, in an Eastern Rite Byzantine Catholic Church, which is probably fully in union with the Holy See at the Vatican, but using a different liturgy than western (Roman) Catholics are used to. You should have just stayed around after Mass and asked these questions to the priest. You likely received both the body and the blood of Christ at the same time, rather than separately. There are many more details to share. For more, post your questions at www.askmeaboutgod.org and receive a free, private, complete, personalized answer via email in about one day. Doug

Nope, the liturgy is different, but the theology is the same.

Good Friday – Great amp; Holy Friday « Adrienne#39;s Armoire

Today is Good Friday in The Western Catholic Church, and Great and Holy Friday in The Eastern Catholic Churches. We honor the Death of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by attending services, keeping quiet without radio, TV, unnecessary cell phone use, etc.., between the hours of noon – 3pm, when Christ suffered and died on The Cross. His Mother Mary stood by The Cross (she was sorrowful, but did not swoon) as did St. John, to whom Jesus entrusted the care of His Blessed Mother.

Strict fast and abstinence in both churches [aka = rites]. You can any of the Western or Eastern Catholic Churches to fulfill your Catholic obligations and desire to adore, honor, and have compassion for Him Who died for your salvation.

What is the difference between the Roman Catholic church and the ...

The Byzantine Rite of Catholics use to belong to the Orthodox Church, but broke away and reunited with the Roman Catholic Church. The difference is that they kept some or all of their Orthodox traditions and adapted the Catholic traditions into their churches. In a sense they are our reunited brothers and sisters into the one Catholic Church. And yes they are in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
