Can I Get into these colleges?
Kravis Center

Im a junior in highschool, some of the colleges i want to attend are Notre Dame, University of Rochester, New York University,or University of Portland..so far these are the only colleges that ive looked at that i really like, but anyways i go to a catholic high school, we have been ranked in the top 50 catholic highschools (cardinal newman), im a member of my basketball team, im a Safe School Ambassador meaning that i do my best to keep the school safe, and i am a Link Crew member meaning that i go to the freshmen orientations and make the freshman feel welcomed. my frosh gpa was a 4.00, my soph gpa was a 3.87 and my jr gpa is a 3.71(weighted) for the first semester, i am also pretty active in my community, i do service hours and i have been nominated to go to a leadership camp in washington but i couldn't because i was too busy and i have been asked to attend sports ambassadors these past two years, but im too busy and i dont have they money. i want to get finanical aid, but what do you think my chances are of getting into these colleges?
o and btw my principle went to notre dame...so could he help?and i want to study international business in college...and if it wouldnt hurt you, what are some good colleges that you would recommend where i could get financial aid?
oh yea sorry, i forgot to add, i have recieved letters from notre dame, university of rochester and u of portland asking me to visit their campus.....i know that many kids get letters suchh as these but im pretty sure that it helps...so what do you think of my chances

From the looks of your grades and extracurricular activities, I say you have a good shot at being accepted into any one of those colleges. You should look at their websites under the "new students/prospective students" tab to get more information on the application and selection process. As well as getting info for financial aid, you can apply for pell grants(don't need to be paid back) as well as students loans(must be paid back). You may even qualify for scholarships. If you can you should visit at least your top 2 preferred colleges to get an idea of the schools environment, what they offer their students, etc...

Good Luck!

  • Homily by Most Rev Dr. Philip Boyce, OCD - at Mass for the 150th ...

Anniversary of the foundation of The Oratory School by John Henry Cardinal Newman.

A group of Catholic laymen requested him to found a boarding school to provide boys coming from the small English Catholic community of the time with an education similar to that given in the public Schools but which would have a Catholic ethos.

This great dream became a reality on Monday 2 , Vol. XIX, p. 116). Indeed on that first day there were only seven boys, all of them sons of English converts. The School has had its good times and its challenging periods. During the Second World War numbers shrank to 27. Now, however, it flourishes. It has over 400 pupils and is the only all-boys senior Catholic school in the United Kingdom.

The staff and pupils in most schools know little or nothing about the person who founded their school. Not so with the Oratory School: it looks proudly back to the eminent educationalist, churchmen, convert and Servant of God, the Venerable John Henry Cardinal Newman, as its founder. The spirit of that great man has guided the school policy since the beginning and has given it that special character and tenor which is The Oratory School. Forty years ago the renowned Fr. Stephen Dessain of the Oratory, wrote about it: “Newman’s Oratory School, while remaining small, proved a real success, and its example and competition raised the standard of the other Catholic schools” ( , London 1966, p. 110).
