Is the Labour government being inconsistent by insisting Catholic adoption agencies serve gay couples?

They claim that there can be no exemptions to anti-discrimination laws, yet a few years ago they passed an act granting political parties exemptions from sex discrimination laws, so that they could give women candidates preferential treatment.

Therefore they have already conceded that exemptions can be made!

Yes, but the problem here is that they have created legislation to criminalise matters of conscience (religious doctrine), when all other groups, including the COE, were free to continue allowing gay couples to adopt. Interestingly, Muslims agree with the RCC. I have never seen a Government be so intolerant in pursuing tolerance. 'Gays', shouldn't allow the Government to do this in their name, because they, above all, should know what it is like to be part of a persecuted minority.

The real truth, of course, is that left wing governments despise all formal religion, because it interferes with the imposition of their left wing totalitarian edicts. This represents "their religion". Expect more of it, until we become a completely immoral and ungodly state.

Why do most of your respondents assume that because this government has produced yet another piece of crass intolerant legislation (EU inspired HRA) that it is automatically good legislation. The Catholic Church has held these views for centuries, and the law has no place interfering in matters of conscience. They would do well to read an article on this subject in Mondays (31-1-2007) Daily Mail, written by Melanie Phillips. And listen to some sense on this subject.

Is there an adoption agency inside the Catholic Church? Can you give a baby to the Catholic Church?

I've heard of it, but don't know if it's true. People in my history class were debating on abortion, and a girl spoke up and said, "I mean, there's no reason for abortion, the Catholic Church will take any and all babies, they have over 2 million handicap babies and won't refuse any."

So, I mean, is there some type of adoption agency in the Catholic Church? If so, could somebody direct me to some online information about it, I would like to do some research on it.

There may or may not be other adoption service organizations sponsored by the Catholic Church, but where I live, it's all handled by Catholic Social Services, which has a license as an adoption agency.

Actually the thought of one man buggering another is abhorrent to most decent people

+ Homosexuality +

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

Unmarried cohabiting couples, whether heterosexual or homosexual, are living in sin.

+ Adoptions +

The issue at hand is that Catholic adoption agencies in the England and Wales handle about one-third of all private adoptions.

The Catholic Church regularly matches orphans with married (heterosexual) couples. People who are living as our religion believes God intended.

There is a new law taking effect in April that says that the adoption agencies will have to place children with homosexual couples.

Catholics believe that not only it is not in the best interest of the child to place them in an environment of immorality and sin that if they follow the law then they themselves will be sinning in the process.

Catholic doctors are not forced to perform abortions. Catholic prison workers are not forced to execute prisoners. Catholics are not forced to commit what they believe to be sinful acts in any other part of society.

Should Catholic adoption agencies that refuse same-sex couples be forced to change their policies?
Vintage wedding favors

No, because we have the freedom of religion in the U.S., and also because there are plenty of non-Catholic adoption agencies. In fact, the Catholic ones are in the minority, so it's easier to find a non-Catholic agency than it is to find a Catholic one.

  • Catholic adoption agency wins right to appeal gay parents case ...

The last Catholic adoption agency in the UK to refuse to serve gay couples has won its High Court appeal.

Leeds-based Catholic Care was appealing against a Charity Commission ruling which said it could not discriminate against gay would-be parents.

Today, the High Court allowed its appeal. Mr Justice Briggs ordered the Charity Commission to reconsider the case.

A Charity Commission spokeswoman said this afternoon she could not yet comment on whether the commission would appeal against the decision.

The charity had pleaded with the commission for an exemption from the law, saying it would close rather than place children with gay couples.

Catholic Care had wanted to take advantage of a clause in the 2007 Sexual Orientation Regulations which allows charities to discriminate by amending their charitable objectives.

Gay protection loophole allowed Catholic adoption appeal - from ...

The Catholic adoption agency which won a legal victory over gay couples won its case through a loophole designed to protect gay organisations.

Leeds-based Catholic Care argued that it would be forced to close if it had to comply with equality legislation barring it from discriminating against gay couples.

Yesterday, the High Court ruled that the Charity Commission must reconsider its decision not to let the agency change its constitution.

The argument centred on Regulation 18 of the 2007 Sexual Orientation Regulations, which was designed to protect gay charities from litigation if they discriminated against straight people.

The clause allows charities to discriminate if their aims are to serve people of a particular sexual orientation. In practice, one example is gay charities being allowed to refuse employment to straight people .
