What do you think about the Roman Catholic Archdiocese ?
My meeting with the Swiss Cardinal Dr. Kurt Koch (President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity) November,9th,2011,Stuttgart,Germany

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles will settle its clergy abuse cases for at least $600 million.
I can't understand why this is such a stay away from subject. This Priest molesting children subject seems to be treated by the public the same as it was treated by the Church. Do people understand the Church knew about the priest molesting children. And the way they dealt with it was to transfer the priest to a different Church. Most of the Priest are still out there.

I think the Roman Catholic church is in the midst of self destruction. In the last year the pope has almost started a holy war with Islam, called all other forms of Christianity false religions, protected pedophiles, and come up with "The Ten Commandments of Driving"!

Real lack of intelligence at the abby lately!!!

I think the pope is insane!

Is the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese morally bankrupt as well as financially??

To help pay for the wrongs of perverted priests the Los Angeles Archdiocese is selling a convent in Santa Barbara and evicting the elderly nuns. The priests sin and the nuns suffer the consequences.
Read the outrageous story on the link below.

My goodness, that is pretty outrageous! Why doesn't the Vatican cough up the money by selling off some of it's billions of dollars worth of gold or art, and whatever other assets it has, and just pay the bill in full!? That was kinda creepy seeing that Pope in the background. And sorry to offend you if you are Catholic, but one specific thing came to mind when I read that article. "She has fallen! Babylon the great has fallen." Revelations 18:2

Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles will pay $660 million in lawsuit settlements.?

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles will pay $660 million in lawsuit settlements to almost 500 people who were allegedly abused by clergy affiliated with the diocese.

How could God allow this to happen in a place of woship? What are your opinions on this with regards to placing your trust in your church?

God can't change the actions of an evil person. He can't reach down and hit the person on the head and say, "don't do that." The evil person does what he wants to do.

As for these evil priests, they were doing something they wanted to do and didn't care that they were destroying innocent lives. God had no control over them. They were not acting as God's representative. Anyone that purposely hurts a child, especially to satisfy their own pleasure, is pure evil!

Personally, I think Cardinal Mahoney also not been acting as "God's Representative" in this area. He has allowed this abuse to continue for many years. He seems to care more about the reputation of his church than for the innocent children that were molested.

I probably shouldn't express my opinion on this since I'm not Catholic. I just feel really bad for the children that were molested.

If this had happened in my church, I would have a hard time trusting anyone. However, I have heard of rare cases where inappropriate things happened. The individuals were dealt with swiftly and were turned over to the police.

I think that's what should have been done to these evil priests.

$660 million dollars - How did the Catholic archdiocese of L.A. arrive at that amount to pay abuse victims?
Cathedral of Saint Paul, National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, side/rear exterior Panorama 1

Also, how are they going to pay them? I prefer answers mainly from people who live in Los Angeles - the city & the county,or,from other Southern California residents.

All week long,I've heard TV news reports about the payout, but, haven't heard about how & when the amount was arrived at,or how & when the victims will be paid.

The attorney pool is getting 60% of that amount. The rest is divided up by the victims by some formula that we'll never hear about. You can guess it's by the severity of the abuse and length of time it happened to each victim. The Catholic church is rish beyond your wildest dreams.

  • CULTURE NEWS: Baltimore Targets Catholic Pro-life Centers ...

Archbishop Edwin F. O'Brien said the law, which took effect in January , "is hurting the good people volunteering and giving so much of their resources to come to the help of pregnant women." It requires the centers, some of which are supported by the Catholic Church, to post signs stating that they do not refer women for abortion or birth control. But proponents - including Mayor Stephanie C. Rawlings-Blake, who sponsored the bill last year as president of the City Council - have described the requirement as a matter of public health. A spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood of Maryland, which has accused the centers of giving women misleading information about the risks of abortion and birth control, called the law "just responsible policy." Thomas J. Schetelich, chairman of the board for the...

Catholic archdiocese rebuilding contracts faulted by federal ...

The federal government has ordered the Archdiocese of New Orleans to open millions of dollars in storm-related rebuilding to public bid, without penalizing the church for not having done so thus far.

Auditors from the Department of Homeland Security informed the archdiocese last month that the church had to stop using only its preferred contractors in rebuilding parochial schools, gyms and other sites financed with FEMA reimbursement dollars. From now on, the archdiocese has to award the jobs under an open, competitive bid process.

While the notice did not specify how much the church spent without seeking public bids, a church report issued in the summer of 2008 told local Catholics the archdiocese then had spent $35.5 million in FEMA money on clean-up, temporary and permanent...
