Is there a Catholic/Non-Catholic Christian couple who did NOT raise their children Catholic?

Yes yes yes. I already know the Catholic church rule on this. If one of the parents are Catholic, the children that comes from the marriage has to be raised Catholic. My question is, did anyone NOT follow that rule and why?

My husband is Catholic and my children are baptized Catholic even though we have never been active members of the Catholic church which is why the number of Catholic members looks so impressive.

We don't raise our children as Catholics because even though my husband was brainwashed into thinking they had to be baptized or they would go to hell I think it's a cult and want nothing to do with it.
But smart thinking on behalf of the church as they receive money for every baptism.

Why do Roman Catholic children get preferential treatment?

For the purpose of education my child is non-denominational. So i would like her in a non-denominational school. She can not have a placement awarded in a primary school on the ground of non-denominationality since i live outside the catchment area. If she was roman catholic however, she would get a placement outside the rc school's catchment area on the ground of her religion. No wonder muslim schools are blooming. If i was one i would send my child to a muslim school rather than her be indoctrinated by a C of E funded school. So why are roman catholics schools allowed to apply positive discrimination (i pressume muslim schools are allowed this privilege too)? And why do community primary schools not have this luxury of choosing to educate the non-denominational children since their status is non-denominational as per statue ... (as opposed to C of E funded)?????
Had to fill in school application forms not long ago, should you wonder where this rant originates ...
And also because someone i know without ethics has tried to enroll their daughter in the local RC school (they bought a house 5 minutes walk from it). This RC school has said their child can not have a place there since both practising and non-practising applicants get placements first even if they live outside the catchmnet area.
Oh, and they're neither ...
Daver: Not that i have the first understanding why they should be part of the Local Education Authority if they are privately funded schools. Private schools in my understanding are open to those that can afford it. The RC school in question is part of a Local Education Authority. If it wasn't I would not even question their right to chose pupils.
Old know: All my local Curch of England schools proudly state that they are "C of E funded". So as for dual funding being the cause of RC schools being more successful, it don't really cut with me.
Most of these local dual-funded C of E schools are bottom of the league tables whilst the state-only funded non-denominational is actually one of the better ones in the whole of town!
Catholics pay no more taxes than do non-denominationls. And what they chose to donate to the church is probably tax deductable anyway!
Isabella: I would have thought that by now it is obvious i am NOT talking of American schools here? We don't have states in the UK, we have counties. And none of the cities or towns pay. It's central government here so Westminster levies taxes that it redistributes.
Any idea what a LEA is? Maybe you should have bothered to actually read the rest of the question before you spout some nonsense that is totally itrrelevant to my question.
Well, she's non denominational. I don't want her indoctrinated by C of E.
Interesting the English seem quit on this question .... shame i'm only getting american gobblygock replies :-(
Oh, and i can keep her out of RE at a C of E school. She can sit in a room with the other children whoms parents refuse for their children to be indoctrinated. Out of the 4 C of E schools i have spoken to only one provides a structured class for those refraining from RE. Well, they put the children in the library ...

I find it hard to believe that here we are in the 21st century and still talking about religion. By the way about 4 opinion polls say a majority of UK people are non religious. I think it is time to ban all religious teaching in schools.

When I was at school they "tried" to tell me something called "God" turned some woman into a pillar of salt. It is desperately important to stop this nonsense now

How can a Catholic have a Protestant wedding ceremony and not have to raise children catholic?

You see, my fiance is protestant and I am catholic. Well, I want a catholic wedding and I want to raise the children catholic. My fiance doesn't care if we have a catholic ceremony but he isn't so sure about us raising our children if we have any catholic because he doesn't know much about Catholicism.
How would I get married and not have to raise my children catholic? I would also like to know if it's very common for a couple to teach their children both the protestant and catholic faiths.
Could you help me here?

--Is Catholic--

Well first to get the dispensation to marry a non-Catholic the priest has to be sure that you will not be in danger of defecting from the faith and that you will raise your children Catholic. It is important to keep in mind two things 1.) Religious differences become more pronounced when you actually have kids and the reality of raising them Catholic starts. 2.) Raising kids in multi faiths does not produce more religious people but rather less religious people. Kids are not mini adults and they simply cannot process the differences between Catholicism and religion X and rather they generally see that religion is either not important or simply a matter of personal taste such as liking chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Of course that is completely wrong and not at all what religion is about.

Because your future fiance doesn't know much about Catholicism, let me suggest that the both of you read the following books.

Does the Catholic Church consider children from a divorce legitimate?

I'm 16 and trying to return to the catholic church, however someone told me that the church does not recognize divorced children as ever even being born. My mother is catholic and divorced my non-catholic father.

No no no. The Catholic Church has never said that the children of divorced parents are illegitimate. Actually, being divorced in the Catholic Church is being seperated. The parents would have to get an anulment. An anulment makes it like the marriage was never there (void). But still then, the children from the marriage are still legitimate.
God bless you+

Baptising children as Catholics if parents not married in a Catholic church?

Does the Catholic church have problems with baptising children if their parents were not married in a Catholic church (eg if the parents only had a civil marriage)?

Does it cause any particular problems if one parent has previously been married in a Catholic church and that marriage has not been annulled (ie that parent is still married to another person in the eyes of the Catholic church)?

First, there is NOTHING the parents can do that would prevent a child from being baptized, as long as the priest had some assurance the child would be actually raised Catholic. The sins of the parents are never held against the child.

However, that "assurance the child would be actually raised Catholic" could be tricky for this couple. If they only have a civil marriage, they are not sacramentally married, and therefore are "living in sin." If they are willing to live with such a mortal sin, that might indicate that they aren't going to raise the child Catholic, and that's a problem.

The solution is for the parents to start the process to have their situation corrected, and if they start it and are sincere, most priests would take that as a good sign that the parents are serious about Catholicism, despite any previous missteps, and the baby can be baptize at the next convenient time.

Yes, the previous marriage is a problem. Without the annulment, that spouse is still spiritually obligated to the first spouse, which means the current marriage is adulterous...a mortal sin. That spouse should apply for a decree of nullity immediately. When it comes through, the current marriage can be convalidated, and everything will be right again.

  • Catholic League President Insists Scandal Involves Homosexuals Not ...

Bill Donohue, the controversial head of the Catholic League, was recently denounced for appearing to suggest that the parents were at fault in some way in cases of child abuse against the church. Now, he has argued that coverage of claims in Wisonsin referring to “child abuse” are wrong since “the vast majority of the victims [were] post-pubescent.”

This tool claims to have the ‘facts’ like he knows what facts are considering that he believes some guy just magically rose from the dead and currently hangs out in the clouds.

It’s people like Donohue that ought to be smacked – repeatedly – upside his empty melon. And, it is abundantly obvious the Church doesn’t subscribe to the saying, “the buck stops here.” Gee, what would Jesus do?

Interesting analysis of the Catholic child-rape problem « Later On

I figured we had gotten past this canard but since Bill Donohue is on every television and radio show loudly proclaiming that the church’s abuses can be attributed to “homosexuals”, and therefore it is homosexuality and not the church that stands in the dock, it requires some unpacking.

Here’s Donohue’s valid point. In some of the reports on the sex abuse crisis, the impression is sometimes given that all the offenses are against children in the classic pedophile sense – pre-pubescent. The John Jay Report found that 22 percent of the cases of abuse in America were with children under the age of ten, 51% were between the ages of 11 and 14, and 15 percent were aged 16 or older. Eighty percent were same-sex abuse. So you can see how you can say that the majority of the cases were same-sex acts between men and male teens who were sexually past puberty. Hence, in Donohue’s blinkered eyes, the gays did it. And if we get rid of all the gays, we may be unfair to many of them, but at least we can get rid of the abuse.
