catholic christening

We would like to get my 5 month old christened, I am catholic so would like a catholic christening, I dont currently go to church. Could we have this ceremony at home? How do we go about it? Thanks

Maybe.

All Catholic sacraments are intended to be events where the entire church community comes together to celebrate and worship God.

A private Baptism would not fulfill this goal but your personal circumstances may allow it. Just ask your parish priest.

We've been invited to such a christening, and we have heard some conflicting views on what colours are acceptable for men and women to wear.

Can women or men wear black or red clothing? What colours are not allowed, and why?

I have never heard of acceptable or unacceptable colors being worn at a Baptism.

This may be a cultural tradition in your area of the world that is not widely known world wide.

What is involved during the christening? Will i have to stand up and make any sort of speech?

One of the Christenings I saw on TV involved a bunch of guy getting whacked. I don't think I should advise you.

Thanks everyone... I was just stuck on the purity issue that everything had to be white.

For starters, how old is your daughter? I don't know much about Catholic Christenings but does she have to wear shoes? My husband didn't wear any at his but maybe it's an age thing. If she does have to, I'm sure silver would look fine or even pink (if they are a pale pink).

It depends on the church and the family. If they're making it a formal affair, wear a suit. If it's more relaxed, a non-tee shirt and jeans might be appropriate. Ask the parents.

For mine, my godmother was running late, so she came straight from her garden to the church; my dad says you could hear her flip-flops echo through the rafters of the church building. I wouldn't recommend that.
