CAtholic/Christian?

What is the difference between someone saying they are a Christian instead of saying they are a Catholic? What's the difference?

This is because catholics aren't christians.

Catholic Church is not Christian Part Three

The Catholic Church does not represent Christian Values that are found in the bible. The Catholic Church is based on Religion, Rituals and Dogma ...

Catholic/Christian...?

Are they the same thing? My mom tells me they are not the same thing...but then again, I go to a Catholic school and they are always saying Christian in our Religion book...is it the same thing or not,, because when people ask me what Religion I am, I don't know if I should say I am Catholic or Christian...Thanks a whole lot!!!

I am a Catholic, but when someone asks me what is my religion. I answer , Christian. Yes we are.Catholics are Christians. You are a Catholic Christian. Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, etc... All from one family.
Would you ask a man or a woman if he were a human! No. same goes.

"I am as good or bad by the road I chose to walk, not by the road my brethren in the past did. For when the time come to be judged. Our Lord will judge us based on what each and everyone lived out life, not by what others lived. Live well, Love one another, and let Peace be the guiding lite to your life."

You should answer whatever you feel more comfortable with.
Catholics are Christians. You pick either one, and either is accurate.
May You All have a very Happy New Year, and many more.

Can a baptized Christian, but not confirmed Catholic, receive communion in a Catholic mass?

I was baptized as a baby in the Catholic church, then later rebaptized in a 'believer's baptism' at the age of six, and brought up in a Christian church and home. Must I become confirmed in the Catholic church before receiving communion? I am aware of the rite of christian adult initiation, but was curious about what is required of non-Catholic Christians who want to attend Mass and possibly join the Catholic church.

Only under certain conditions and I am not sure you meet them. You can read here under what circumstances you might receive communion but your best bet is to just ask the priest at the church you're interested in attending.

Is it possible to be both Catholic and Christian at the same time?

My little sister was baptized Catholic, but recently has started going to a Christan church and claims she is both Catholic and Christan. I know that to convert to Christianity you do not have to be re-baptized (from Christan to Catholic you do). So, is she Catholic, Christian, or both?

Yes, because Catholics are Christian. Catholicism is the original Christian Church.

Also, you can not re-baptise anyone so long as the original baptism was valid. You can not declare Christ's work to be insufficient, which is what re-baptise does.

Catholic & Christian?

Exactly what is the difference in Catholic faith & Christianity?
No, I am sorry that I was not aware that this question was asked daily here?

I think Catholics have more set rules & rituals? I am sorry I cannot think of what it would be called - like their worship service involves catechism? They also have rituals like mass, right?

I was always interested in possibly visiting a catholic church, but I never knew the difference. I live in the Bible belt down here in Georgia.

Thanks!
Oh, I also recall one of my best friends years ago who was a devout Catholic explaining that Catholics believe the Mother Mary as part of the divine trinity? Is that correct?

The Catholic Bible has 73 books, Protestant versions have 66.
Catholics are Christians.

Catholic Bible: http://www.drbo.org/

EDIT - No, Mary is not party of the Trinity. She is very special, full of grace, and chosen by God. She gave birth to our Lord Jesus Christ and deserves our respect. But she is not a god nor part of God.

Here is the Catholic Catechism, you might want to check it out. You can type in different topics in the search engine (Mary, Marriage, Eucharist, etc) and see what the Church has to say about them:
http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/ccc_toc.ht m

Catholics also differ from Protestants in the meaning of the Eucharist (Lord's Supper). Protestants believe it is only a symbol of Christ's body and blood, Catholics believe in transubstantiation.

(And note that I'm getting thumbs down because I stated that Catholics are Christians. You will find that some Christians on this board believe Catholics are idol worshipers and are not Christian. We were specifically warned in the Bible (See 1 Corinthians 1:10) not to have divisions among ourselves, however, and those Christians should be lovingly corrected for their error).

  • The Hidden Hand Behind Bad Catholic Music - Christian Forums

Seriously, the disaster of music and liturgy in Catholic parishes is one difficulty I had to overcome painfully. Even the celebrations of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer (which was a radical re-writing, analogous and contemporaneous with the 1970 Roman Missal) that we had were done with far more solemnity and beauty, the hymns were generally pre-20th century and celebration was ad orientem . I am glad that I found a traditional parish (FSSP) where the homilies are poignant and strictly orthodox -- there is no "talking down" to the congregation, the music is beautiful and the liturgy is truly worshipful. Speaking of which, I must get to bed so that I can get up in time to go down for the Good Friday devotions and Mass tomorrow! Most contemporary Christian music is more musically...
