In what year (current calendar) was the catholic church of Rome established?

I know the catholic church keeps records. In what year (current calendar) did they begin to record?

375 A.D. by Emperor Constantine. He named himself Pontiff Maximus, the first Pope. He made Christianity the state religion and subtly introduced new doctrines such as a universal salvation rather than an individual one. Thus begins The Catholic Church.

For Catholics:On church calendars, many female saints are listed as virgins, but male saints aren't.Why?

My parents have calendars from different Roman Catholic organizations, including one from their church, with all the saints' feast days listed, but, many female saints are listed as virgins while many male saints aren't.

Why? Isn't that prejudicial?Did any of those saints tell anyone that they were or weren't virgins?

How did any of those calendar makers arrive at their conclusions about the sex lives of any of the saints?

I don't know about "many" being listed as virgins. There are a few. but there were several if you read were married, had children. Perpetua was still nursing her child when she was Martyred.

There are just as many males on the calendar who were virgins as females. One such example is Aquinas, read histoory. His family even hired prostitutes to try to seduce him away from life in the church. He refused.

Does the world not know that Valentines Day is actually a Roman Catholic Feast Day of a Catholic saint?

According to the liturgical calendar of the Roman Catholic Church, February 14th is the Feast Day of Saint Valentine.

He was a Roman Catholic priest and died as a martyr at the end of the third century.

How in the world did this religious day turn into a secular celebration with such immoral and indecent gestures and lustful acts?

I seriously doubt anybody cares.

Are Protestants slowly coming back to the traditions of the Catholic Church?

Beginning Ash Wednesday, Catholics enter the 40-day penitential season of Lent, but they are not the only Christians to do so. In fact, a growing number of Christian denominations are incorporating Lenten observances into their Christian experience.

"In some denominations we are reclaiming a sense of history," Dr. Jane Harris, professor of American religion at Hendrix College in Conway, said. "We can still be Protestant yet claim liturgical practices."

Harris gave two reasons to explain why more churches, including some American Baptist churches, although none in Arkansas, now follow a liturgical calendar and observe Lent.

First, she said, many churches want to recognize the rich history of the liturgical calendar.

"Observing church seasons add elements of depth and life to the congregation to spiritually enrich us," she said.

Secondly, society has diminished the spiritual elements of holidays.

"Advent and Lent slow us down and take us away from the commercialism and allow us to prepare for the high holy days of Christmas and Easter," she said.

In fact, Lent is all about preparation. While the word "Lent" means "spring," the season of Lent for many Christians is marked by a concentrated focus on prayer and a sacrifice either by giving something up or taking something on, Harris said.

For those of you who are either unaware or plain ignorant, Catholic Church observes the Holy Book and the holy traditions directly handed down by our Lord Jesus to His Apostles and to those in succession. Read John's Gospel that says everything was note written down which means it was handed down verbally.

It is also not written anywhere in the Bible Jesus telling his followers to refer only to a written scripture and not to His spoken word. Prove me wrong by showing me one scripture that says so.

I'm glad to know that. It reminds me of the prodigal son who returned to the father. So also people will come back to the bride of Christ, the Catholic Church.

For those of you quoting Eph 2:8-9, please remember it is a Paul's words and not the words of Christ. Jesus said in His own words how it will be on Judgment day separating goats from sheep. These are Jesus' words and are above all other letters. (Matthew 25:31-46)

If you want a milder one, James 2: 14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
18But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]?

Conclusion: Faith complements works and vice versa. Two sides of the same coin

Catholic Mass and Jewish Calendar?

I always thought it was a bit odd that Catholics tradition allowed for devotees to attend mass at either saturday night or sunday morning. Did the Catholic Church borrow this tradition from Judais? I think the Jews start a new day at sun-down which is why Shabat starts on Friday night and ends Saturday night. Does this make sense or am I just making false connections?

Yes, this is a biblical practice.

According to the tradition of ancient Judaism, a day began at sunset and ended the following sunset.

This practice comes from first account of creation in the first chapter of Genesis.

When Moses gave the Israelites the Law and proscribed the days of worship, those days began at sunset.

Leviticus 23:5: The Passover of the LORD falls on the fourteenth day of the first month, at the evening twilight.

Because most of the early Christians were Jews, the early Christian communities celebrated the mysteries of the Faith within this ancient practice.

A vigil Mass is celebrated the evening before the regular Mass, whether this is:
+ Saturday evening before any Sunday Mass
+ Christmas Eve before Christmas
+ The eve of any other Holy Day of Obligation

Or the Easter Vigil Mass, which is celebrated on the Saturday evening immediately preceding Easter Sunday.

+ With love in Christ.

Is Munster rugby club bigger than the Catholic church? | WorldBBNews

Pubs in Limerick are being allowed to open on a Good Friday for the first time because a crucial rugby match is taking place. Is rugby now bigger than the Catholic church?

In Ireland the thought of crossing the threshold of a licensed premises on Good Friday and ordering a pint carries a delicious whiff of the forbidden. Nobody would expect to turn into a pillar of salt when the first sup of Murphy’s passed their lips on the most sacred day in the Church calendar, but if it happened we would probably feel it was only as we deserved.

So a court ruling that pubs in Limerick are to be allowed trade on Good Friday for the convenience of 26,000 rugby fans attending a match in the city was a bombshell. Feeling the full force of the recession – across the country it’s estimated that each day another pub closes – bar-owners in Limerick, the home of Munster rugby club, petitioned a local court for a dispensation. A crunch tie with rivals Leinster qualified, they argued, as a special event and could thus exempted from the prohibition on pubs opening.
