Catholic Conversion?
The Conversion of St. Paul

I live in Northern Ireland, raised as a member of "protestant" community for most of my life. Is it possible to convert to the Catholic faith without marriage to another Catholic? Is the process a little tricky? I have wanted to become Catholic for a few years, but know little about the rules, orders etc.
I've never been christened or baptised.

If you're already a baptised Christian you're more than halfway there! Go to your nearest parish, talk with the priest or RICA (religious ed) director. You take classes once a week or so and will be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil. It's easy and you will be welcomed. Good luck on your journey.

Catholic conversion?
The Conversion of St. Paul

I am looking for anyone who can help steer me in the right direction on converting to the catholic religion.

Congratulations on finding your way home, as over a million adults did last year. Joining the True Church is simple enough. Call any parish rectory (where the priests live) and ask to speak to a priest. Tell him your interest and he will be happy to help you get into an RCIA course, where all the essential teachings and practices of the True Christian faith will be explained to you in an informal setting where you can ask questions, learn, and make your final decision about entering Christ's Holy Church.

If you do decide to convert, at the end of the course you will be baptized if you are not already validly baptized, and then receive Our Lord's Body and Blood in the Most Holy Eucharist, and also the sacrament of Confirmation. Most Protestant baptisms are recognized by the Catholic Church, so if you were baptized in a Protestant church you probably will not have to be baptized.

I hope that you will find the RCIA (Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults) enjoyable and informative (my wife and I teach the course in our parish). This is a good time to get involved since RCIA in most parishes runs from Fall through Spring. We just started two weeks ago. And I know you will never regret finding and entering the One True Church Jesus Christ founded for all mankind. Peace!

How bout trying Islam? (+ apology for catholic conversion question)?
Ceiling1HDR

First of all, i'd like to say i'm sorry for the catholic conversion conversion because of sex abuse scandal. its just not cool to ask people to give up their faith because of an internal problem (albeit major one).

But no matter what your religion, why not try islam? Practice islam along your current faith and maybe you will see its the right faith for you! We have a great way of praying, a tight-knit community, and wonderful family life.

Don't forget, Allah loves you!

As long as a person is convinced that Jesus "is" God, they will never understand the purpose of religion.

Conversion from catholic to presbyterian?
CeilingHDR

I am 17 years old (18 this summer) and I have been raised catholic. I didn't really care about religion a few years ago and I got confirmed only because I was supposed to. I really want to convert and become presbyterian. What do I have to do to make it official?

In order to become an actual member of the Presbyterian church (USA any way) you must be accepted by the Session (A group of people who run the church) from that church. It is fairly simple just brush up on your presbyterian knowledge. Or you can just attend church as an unofficial member. You can do every thing that a normal presbyterian do even take communion but make sure with the particular church in your area that you have decide to go to.

I hope this helps!

Catholic Conversion, where do i begin?
JesusandMaryHDR

I'm not a confirmed catholic, I've never really been to catholic church, but I want to convert. I've been baptized as a christian, a Pentecostal to be specific.

I have a son and this is my main reason for converting. I want him to be baptized and be raised in the catholic church. He's 4 months old.

Where do I begin? There are a few Catholic churches in my area, am I allowed to just show up?

You are allowed and you will be very welcome.
Talk to the Priest and he will guide you in your first steps in the Church of Christ. You will be invited to join the RCIA which is a group that meets once a week for about one hour and there you will be able to learn more about our faith, which is beautiful.

It is nice of you to do this for your son and I am sure he will thank you for it, but you are doing it for your self too and for many others who you probably don't even know right now.

We are part of Christ's Body on earth.

God Bless you and your family.
Mickey

Catholic Family Column for April 2010 by Deacon Tom Fox

My wife and I have followed the Catholic Family folks, AKA: The Sweeneys for years now. If I remember correctly — David is a convert to the Catholic Faith. And again, if memory serves correctly — Allyson isn’t a convert but was raised in a solid, practicing Catholic family. Converts and reverts to the faith have such a joyous story to tell. Many of them are found on the Marcus Grodi Coming Home program on EWTN television. Other stories are found in books by Scott and Kimberly Hahn, the Surprised by Truth series published by Patrick Madrid – and so many others. I love conversion stories — I encourage you if they aren’t a part of your reading or viewing to give them a try.

The greatest convert is, of course St. Paul. What was he like following his encounter with Christ? Consider his opening words in a letter to the Church in Rome. They show how much this highly educated, chief enemy of the early Church had changed: “I Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus… called to be an apostle… I send greetings to all the beloved of God in Rome, you who are called to be holy. Grace to you, and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
