I'm doing volunteer work as a Catechism teacher this coming week and I would like some ideas on arts and crafts to do with the kids. We will be talking about a few of the parables (the sower and seed, the good shepherd, the talents, the good samarititan, the rich manand lazarus). I've never taught before, and I would appreciate any ideas anyone might have. Thanks!
Depending on your budget:
~For the Parable of the Sower and the Seed, you could have each child plant a seed in a small flower pot or baggie to take home. http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/grow.htm l Or, just use construction paper cutouts of plants, seeds, rocks, and earth & have them paste them onto another page. Or, Prepare 4 clear jars with soil in them. Pack down the soil in the first. Include gravel and rocks in the soil in the second. Put plastic or real plants in the third, and leave nice loose soil in the fourth. Have students drop seeds in the soils and compare how easily the seeds will sprout in each. http://www.ebibleteacher.com/children/le ssons/sower.htm
~For the Good Shepherd, you could make some "No Sew Sock Sheep" with each child (scroll down) http://www.daniellesplace.com/html/mater ial.html#sheeppup
~For the Talents, you could purchase some of those candies wrapped in gold foil to resemble coins, and give some to each child. Or: http://www.dltk-bible.com/parable_of_tal ents_craft.htm
~For the Good Samaritan, you can check out this craft: http://www.dltk-bible.com/crafts/mneighb our.htm Or, you could just have each child draw a picture of a hurt person, and give them each a band-aid to stick onto it.
~For the Rich Man and Lazarus, you could check out the activites at this site: http://children.calvarychapel.com/site/p df/New/Curr211.pdf
Good luck! And remember, the most important thing is to have fun, and try to keep the kids excited and involved!!
Just wondering because it looks like fun! Thanks
Witchcraft is against our religion.
Catholic Church teaches:
All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one's service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion.
These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons.
Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another's credulity.

With love in Christ.
Im a devoted Catholic, go to church no and then with my grandma (im a teen) and I believe in Jesus Christ. But im very interested in witch craft/spells/ paranormal like things. Could I do/be both? Or is there a name for what I am?
Yes, that religion is called Strega, or Italian Witchcraft, and is mostly practiced by women who are Roman Catholic.

I stupidly [[i feel mental right now =D]] tried to do witch craft but i wished that i could be more with god, is it still like trying to betray god in a way, i didn't use any pentacles or anything, but still is reversing "witchcraft" bad or anything?
The problem, sweetheart, with these kinds of things, like witchcraft, wicca, or other manners of the occult is that you are in a sense leaving a door open, even in a small way, to Satan. It's not that you have done anything evil or horribly bad, or even committed a mortal sin (it's a venial sin as you have described it as you haven't sought to do harm). I understand curiosity and it's good for you. But Satan looks for our weaknesses, and for us to show in small ways that we are questioning God. This isn't the same as reading Harry Potter books or the Twilight books, by the way. Those books are entertainment and not an act against God or a way to attempt to "go around" Him as long as you don't take the things contained in them and attempt to use them as any sort of substitute for God. By your question, I assume you are Catholic? It might be good for you to know a few passages from the Catechism:
All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone. (CCC 2116)
All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others—even if this were for the sake of restoring their health—are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity. (CCC 2117)
Go to Mass tomorrow and bring this to mind during your act of penitence. You can then receive the Lord knowing that you have made peace with God.

This adorable sheep is one of our Easy Bible Story Crafts for Kids for kindergarten, first grade and second grade. Creating and displaying this cute, fluffy sheep reinforces the Scripture that tells us Jesus watches over us and calls us, like a good shepherd calls his sheep.
This is one of our Kids Bible Crafts that is complimented by a game. The craft and game help children to remember the verses: “I am the good shepherd. I know each of My sheep by name, and My sheep know Me.” “Those who come through Me will be saved. They will have everything they need.” Scripture: John 10:1-21
