I go to a Catholic church, and they cover all statues of Jesus, the crucifix, and the statues of saints in red cloth. I've heard that it is to remind us that Jesus didn't have to die, but I'd rather have a more detailed explanation. And that also doesn't explain why we cover up the saints. Should I cover up my crucifixes at home?
This tradition is most common from the close of Holy Thursday through the Easter vigil and occurs with the removal of the Holy Eucharist from the Tabernacle. It is a visual reminder that we are separated from Jesus and adds to our joy on Easter when we are back in the Presence the Resurrected Christ. Peace.

Presented here for your bidding approval is this vintage all bisque little Catholic nun doll wearing her original habit and crucifix! She is a tiny example, measuring 5 1/2″ tall. At first I thought she was some kind of composition material, but after a close inspection, I determined she is a cold painted bisque doll, much like the Nancy Ann Storybook dolls. She is heavy for her size and there is none of the crazing associated with compo dolls. With cold painting, the colors are not fired on, thus susceptible to wearing off. In this case, the paint is almost 100% intact, with a little wear on the black shoes, as photographed. The doll has frozen legs and jointed arms, which are a little loose. Her costume is in good condition, but wrinkled from storage. It does have some unfortunate fading on the left side of the dress and on the back of the nun’s head wear, as pictured. Her crucifix is made of plastic. She is a cute souvenir type doll, one you might purchase when visiting a mission gift shop back in the 1940’s or 50’s.
