So Im catholic and at chuch i was checking out the new issue of catholic digest and being a hispanic woman married to a caucasian man no way am i racist but as I am flipping though the pages you see no hispanics, blacks or asians just elderly
caucasian people and the only ethinic group you see is little juan that lives in a box in mexico that needs your money to live. I was debating on whether i should address this and write a letter the the magazine saying they should include more groups of people and not just little old men and women walking there dogs on the beach I dont see how that relates to being catholic what do you guys think and does anyone know what percent of catholics in the world are hispanic?

I don't know all Hispanic in the world!!

Okay, so many Many people I know (I grew up in the Catholic religion) believe that concerning Confirmation parents can and should force their kids to do it. My parents did. Then, only after I was confirmed did they listen to what I Really believed. (not a happy conversation. Very loud, actually. ^^;) Even then they put up a heck of a fight before finally letting me go.

So my question is: what's the point of forcing someone into Confirmation? Confirmation is in all fact: when a person is to say for THEMSELF that "this is the faith I believe and want to be a part of". If you force your kid to be Confirmed, it's just bogus if they don't want it.

And will someone explain to me Why so many people (I've actually read this in my parents Catholic Digest magazine) believe the time to let your child decide their religion for themselves is After Confirmation?!?!?

After being smothered and having my own opinions and beliefs ignored for so long, I lost faith in ALL of it and I am now an atheist

I am horrified by reports of parents forcing their children to be confirmed. It wouldn't even be valid. This Catholic parish agrees it is wrong:

“The canon law of the Church requires that the confirmation candidate be able to ‘renew one's baptismal promises’ in order to receive the sacrament. This points out that it is ultimately the recipient's free will decision whether to be confirmed or not. The sacrament is never to be conferred against the will of the student. Only one with a living faith who wishes to be ‘sealed with the Holy Spirit’ can be the recipient of that gift. It should be clear therefore that while young people might rightly be ‘forced’ by their parents to go to classes, they should not be forced to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. This sacrament is ultimately about their relationship with God for which they have to take the responsibility.”
