I'll be back to school on Friday, and it'll be 40 degrees(usually when the forecast says it'll be 40 degrees, there's always the possibility that the temperature will soar past that). Now, I called my school earlier and asked if they would be closed on Friday... Their answer was no, and that they were told by by the Catholic Education Office (or Department, something like that) that they were to continue with their original plans and would have school resume on Friday, so our principal has no say in this? I don't get it, we have basically no air-conditioners apart from the ones in the Year Seven classrooms that I rarely have (had) classes in. It's ridiculous, the rest of the classrooms have nothing but ceiling fans, and I, along with many other people, do not do well in heat at all. Have they not considered this?
What do you think should be done about this?
Edit: I do believe that this question directed at STUDENTS and not adults whining about how they have to work in so and so heat and that I should consider myself lucky. I'd also like to point out that our parents are PAYING to have us learn in such conditions where as to YOU people have chosen to actually work in that kind of heat, you CHOSE to, so DEAL with it!
hey
dw, i'm a melbourne student, and i go to a catholic high school in ringwood (aquinas college) and i'm going into year 10 this year.
that's a lil strange, coz we we're going back friday, but my principal thought this was too extreme, so we don't have to go back till monday, and the yr 7's and 12's only had to go to oreintation day today (which was in the nice, new air conditioned year 9 rooms.) we got sent a letter last monday. and we're a reconized catholic school (our principal was principal of the year in 2008)
so wateva your school's going on about is crap. why don't you mention what my school's doing? even ring up the catholic education office!
stick it to the man (lol, never thought i would use that line, how gay)

I wonder how many government officials of the Philippines are graduates of the University of the Philippines and various Catholic Universities? These are the universities that seem to always be calling for People Power Revolutions. I am sure a lot of the politicians and government officials attended these schools. Obviously they are failing to teach their students professional ethics. Perhaps the Bishops of the Philippines should be more interested in what is being taught in their universities than trying to destabliize the government and overthrow the government by other than Constitutional means. I myself am a product of a good Catholic education and do not believe everyone that attended UP or a Catholic Institution is corrupt, but the system is certainly failing some of the alumi that seek public office in the Philippines later in life.
Corruption needs to be addressed before the politicians and government officials take office. Most universitities require students to take an ethics course is that not true in the Philippines.
I agree morals should be taught at home, but I also think morals should be taught in school and church. If it is your students that are leading the protest against goverment and elected officials and a large majority of these corrupt people come from your school then I would think you would look within before you began placing the blame elsewhere. Clean up your own house and then clean up others.
if you mean top toppest govt officials, then big majority are from UP and a good number from UP college of law. much of the good and the bad that befell this country since independence from US had come from the works of UP grads, but tragically, more bad than good. next to UP are the PMA grads who by their powerful positions over the armed forces and the police can singularly cause tremendous evil and problems to the people. presently, gloria govt has allowed Ateneo grads to corner powerful positions in govt and thus put a catholic school in company with UP and PMA. Other schools have contributed their own grads who are also evil and corrupt but not in same number as the 3 mentioned.
Other grads of these 3 schools must therefore take a greater role to correct and fight the evil of their fellow graduates if only to clear the reputation of their schools
My child has attended a private Catholic High School in Pennsylvania for his Freshman, Sophmore, and Junior years. Now comes his Senior
year and they want the owed tuition PLUS his Sr. year tuition in advance. We can't financially do that, so my child has decided that
an online accredited school is a good option (Our public school is
very "bad"...not academically, but You Know) Anyway: when I asked the school to fax the educational transcript to the online schools' office, they told me they won't do that until every penny is paid...that it is THEIR right to hold it. I explained that it was them who allowed my child to continue, knowing the debt was getting larger, yet everytime I stated I would remove him from the school, they told me not to, that they would "work with me". Now: his Senior year: and they refuse to relinquish the transcript to the other school, and have told me that
"He'll just have to quit until this is paid".
What can I do? Isn't this what the Family Educational Act is? Do I need to file a civil suite on this? I am in total panic here....he gets
A's and B's....We are not that religion and it has always been an issue with the school for my child...but my child attended because it was the best academic school in the area and my only other recourse was the online school. I am by no means slamming the Catholic faith. I do know that the Pope said on his visit that Catholic education is to be made available to EVERY child, regardless of ability to pay, income, race, etc...
well, they aren't following what he said!
Can I get some advice here as to what recourse I have?
I need to add here that he went from
Catholic school 8th grade into the High School, we didn't sign any contract. That is not to mean we don't intend to pay. I have offered an agreement, even one recorded in the courthouse, to get the transcript, but they refuse.
I have attempted to compromise with the school, to no avail. I spoke with the financial officer, and the ast. principal both: who both sternly said: "no transcript until it's all paid, he'll just have to quit". Several people of Catholic faith that I am friends with, one a large contributor to that particular school, are very upset over this reaction. The school has allowed him to go for 3 yrs, now they are destroying his educational options by (for lack of a better word)
blackmailing us using his transcript as the "prize" for tuition owed. I have tried every option: payment arrangements, etc....all end in a dead end. I really didn't think holding the transcripts was legal, unless they were from the Sr. year.
I'm afraid that YES they can do that. Re-read your contract - very carefully - and I'll bet it's in there. Does your school offer financial aid? Maybe you could apply. Otherwise, make an appointment with the headmaster and explain your finances. Now I'm not saying to offer up private, personal information unless you feel you can trust the headmaster. But I do think face to face conversations can do much more for your situation than phone call, letter or e-mail. One can see the sincerity in a person much better that way.
Imacatholic2, if you read the story about Stuart Marshall I sent you [by email], here is a little more about 25 cent donation now free for Watchtower magazine that came up at special assembly where Stuart worked for California Legislative Analyst's Office.
See, "In 1995, I was attending a special joint assembly [Stuart said] and senate education committee hearing on federal research. The committee chairperson asked the federal representative what had happened to the superconducting superrcollider project. In response, the federal official said that the project had been awarded to the state of Texas but that it was never completed for three reasons. First, the cost of the project increased from six billion to nine billion dollars before it was started. Second, the federal government wanted funds to be used elsewhere, notabbly the 1991 Iraq war. Third, they found out that they could get the answers to life's questions from Jehovah's Witnesses for 25 cents! It appeared that the remark had made its way around and back to where it had started. [started with Stuart in 1987] As everyone laughed, some committee members looked at me. I spoke out to update all present and said, "You can now get the answer free if you just read the literature."
Story starting on page 26 of Watchtower December 1, 2008. If you like ask for that magazine from Jehovah's Witnesses, you can get it for free. [donations will be taken if anyone wants to give something for our worldwide work but never a forced thing. Out of love for the people a lot of Witnesses give their own donation for the literature at the Kingdom Hall for it but never ask for any from people they bring the literature to! And most are not rich! So deep love for others worldwide no matter how much we are hated worldwide!]
Imacatholic2, we may not agree on how the world problems will get fixed at this time but both cannot be right. It kind of comes down to two main choices! The U.N. and all the religious leaders backing it will bring peace and security or Jehovah God will!

Imacatholic2, you said [on other post], "Which "beast" is the United Nations supposed to be? This organization was organized by the duly elected officials of most of the countries of the world." And you put a little of what the Pope said above and I will too here, "As Pope Benedict XVI wrote in his encyclical Caritatis in Veritate (Charity in Truth): “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5)" Show us Jehovah's Witnesses you got what it takes! Stop taking big and just do it! Imacatholic2, I see your at level 7 here at Yahoo Answers so you have great influence with people here by that it would seem. Can you influence ALL clergy to get on the back of the U.N. and wake it up to do its job it was set up to do? Can ALL your gods wake up that beast for PEACE & SECURITY? Imacatholic2, action is needed no more take, OK? Or like Stuart Marshall study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses who was once a Catholic too! Your free will choice! Sincerely with love U.N. Bites Pope August 13, 2009:)
Imacatholic2, you like the challeging email I just sent you? Do you have the faith? Your Pope give it teeth now use them and see if they really can bite!
keep preaching peacefully about Jehovah's right fix from door to door and you peacefully get on the back of those at the U.N. to wake their beast up after some 60 years sleeping to do its job for real PEACE AND SECURITY! Jehovah is laughing at you!
[Psalms 2:1-12] "Why have the nations been in tumult And the national groups themselves kept muttering an empty thing? [no real world fix] The kings of earth take their stand And high officials themselves have massed together as one Against Jehovah and against his anointed one, [Saying:] “Let us tear their bands apart And cast their cords away from us!” The very One sitting in the heavens will laugh; Jehovah himself will hold them in derision. At that time he will speak to them in his anger And in his hot displeasure he will disturb them, [Saying:] “I, even I, have installed my king Upon Zion, my holy mountain.” [see rest too! from 7 to 12] Just showing Jehovah is laughing at human rulers thinking they can out do his installed king Jes
St Thecla, yes, It kind of comes down to two main choices! Both cannot be right. The U.N. and all the religious leaders backing it will bring peace and security or Jehovah God will bring true lasting peace and security to our earth by way of his beloved Son Jesus Christ. Not a three headed Pagan Trinity god idea of a god from outside the Bible that most so called "Christians" worship and mix in government business and war which first Christians did not do! St Thecla, you said, "Looks like pitying the world leaders against God." And you said also "I hope I got the drift of this." You did get it right and that is what the Bible shows will happen at the end of human rule! You ask, "Is Iamcatholic under scrutiny for being the highest pointer in this YA?" NO! Just saying use his influence here to back the U.N., Pope, and other religious leaders to bring lasting true PEACE AND SECURITY [IF] you ALL have FAITH that is the right way to bring it! STOP TALKING AND DO IT! Let Jehovah's Witnesses
keep preaching peacefully about Jehovah's right fix from door to door and you [go to top, computer acting up!]
[last part if computer works right] thinking they can out do his installed king Jesus Christ toward bring lasting PEACE AND SECURITY! "Looks like pitying the world leaders against God." You are doing the pitying against Jehovah God and his anointed Son Jesus Christ if you back the world leaders in their try in bring world PEACE AND SECURITY! So two world fixes at conflict with each other, which has the best chance of working? A free will choice where we put our own faith! A wise or foolish choice before us all! TRUE? If you believe the Trinity and U.N. is the right way, go for it! If you believe Jehovah and his Son Jesus Christ is the right way, they would love for you to take their side and live! What makes more sense to your mind and heart? Be zealous for your own choice which ever it be!
Is there a question in there?
You stated, "It kind of comes down to two main choices! The U.N. and all the religious leaders backing it will bring peace and security or Jehovah God will!"
You kind of remind me of the guy in the flood.
A flood threatens a town, forcing everyone to evacuate, but Joe thinks, "God will save me," and stays put.
As the waters rise, Joe's neighbor comes by and says, "Joe come with me, we've got to go."
Joe declines, "God will save me."
The waters keep rising, Joe scrambles to his second floor. A firefighter in a rowboat comes by. "Get in the boat or you'll drown," he says.
Joe again declines, saying, "God will save me."
Finally, the flood waters force Joe to his roof. A police helicopter comes by and throws down a rope. "Climb up or you'll drown," the policeman yells.
"No, God will save me," Joe replies. Soon, Joe drowns.
He arrives in heaven and challenges God, "Why didn't you help me?"
"What do you mean?" God says. "I did help. I sent a neighbor, a firefighter and a helicopter."
Jesus taught us to pray, "Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
The people of God have been praying for and working to help the God's Kingdom come little by little for thousands of years.
The people of God are still praying for and working to help the God's Kingdom come little by little every day.
The people of God have:
+ Spread the Word of God so that it is within reach of every human being on the planet
+ Started and protected universities
+ Sponsored and supported science and medicine
+ Created International Law theory
+ Developed and sponsored modern economic theory
+ Invented charity as we know it
+ Codified, expanded, and improved Western Law
+ Developed Western Morality
+ Created just war theory
+ Sponsored and influenced art and architecture
+ Developed the concept of inalienable rights
+ Invented freedom of speech and freedom of religion
+ Eliminated most slavery in the world
About one third of the world are Christian believers.
About two thirds of the worlds are believers in the one true God of Abraham.
Every person in the world has been "Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity."
As Pope Benedict XVI wrote in his encyclical Caritatis in Veritate (Charity in Truth):
78. Without God man neither knows which way to go, nor even understands who he is. In the face of the enormous problems surrounding the development of peoples, which almost make us yield to discouragement, we find solace in the sayings of our Lord Jesus Christ, who teaches us: “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5) and then encourages us: “I am with you always, to the close of the age” (Matthew 28:20). As we contemplate the vast amount of work to be done, we are sustained by our faith that God is present alongside those who come together in his name to work for justice.
For the complete text of the encyclical, see: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedi ct_xvi/encyclicals/documents/hf_ben-xvi_ enc_20090629_caritas-in-veritate_en.html
Jesus Christ will come in glory someday (maybe tomorrow and maybe in 10,000 years) but until that day comes, we need to work together in Christ for truth and justice for all human beings on the planet.
With love in Christ.
im in 5th year and about to do my GCSE's but im not actually that good in school. we have to think about future careers but i have no idea. everyne else in my year knows what A-levels they want to do but im not even sure if i want to do them at all. they all know what what jobs they want but i have no idea. i love drama and am part of a drama group that regularly sends us to auditions but i know realisticly i cant depend on an acting career.
im not very smart and i recently did mocks and got my results. i didnt do well in the sciences, maths geography and all the ones that require you to be smart but i did do well in all the ones that you can make up and bluff your way through like english, PE and catholic religious education
i like kids and get on with them really well so have always wanted to work with them but know i wouldnt be smart enough to be a teacher and i wouldnt want to be a social worker because i actually want to do some good in the world.im active and love to keep moving during my job and definitely would not be suited to an office job. im talkative and have no problems speaking in public.
does anyone have any career idea's and info on what qualifications you would need?
Social work sucks, be a teacher, you don't need a whole bunch of smarts, there is a book for you and you will also learn as you go.

Catholic schools smarter with govt building fund - CathNews
A newspaper report comparing building costs in a Catholic primary school and a public counterpart shows that the government school pays consultants twice as much.
The Australian compared western Sydney primary schools Holy Family, in Emerton, and Lalor Park Public. Both received $2 million under the federal government's Building the Education Revolution program to build new halls.
A breakdown of costs provided by the Catholic Education Office for the Parramatta diocese shows the non-construction costs at Holy Family school total about $170,000 and include fees to the architect, who acts as project manager, and to consultants, such as structural and electrical engineers, surveyors, the council and certifiers.
...A Response to Christopher Hitchens#39; The Great Catholic Coverup ...
Is a revelation that deserves wider attention. Were it not for its appearance in the National Post , it would be difficult to believe that a reputable newspaper would publish such absurdity.
Mr. Hitchens states that in May, 2001, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger sent a "confidential" letter to Catholic bishops to remind them that anyone who disclosed "rape and torture" of children by priests would be excommunicated. He claims that Cardinal Ratzinger imposed a ten year "statute of limitations" on actions against clerical sex offenders, and was thus guilty of "obstruction of justice."
These assertions are false.
Mr. Hitchens also states that then Archbishop Joseph Ratzinger was responsible for the transfer of a clerical sexual predator to Munich. He virtually accuses Archbishop Ratzinger of approving the predator's return to clerical duties and, in consequence, of moral responsibility for the priest's resumption of sexual aggression against children.
