How can a 60-year old American man become a Roman Catholic priest, brother or monk?
Notre Dame Mission Volunteers serve food at a local women's shelter.

I'm divorced; my children are all grown up and financially independent; I've had 16 years of Roman Catholic Education. I originally came to Thailand as a Jesuit Lay Volunteer Missionary and live in Thailand now. Now that I'm free from parental responsibilities etc., I believe God is calling me to some form of the Roman Catholic Clergy vocation. My Bachelor's degree is from Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass 1968; my Master is in Education from USC, L.A. Cal 1974. I've been running my own tutorial service in Bangkok since 1986.
I'm in excellent health.

Why not become a Deacon of your parish? Deacons can be married with children.

How do you transfer from a community college to Georgetown School of Foreign Service?
A Day of Service

I am a 3.9 college GPA at a top-ranked community college in California.
I work with International Students.
Studied abroad in Vietnam for a month.
Have the support of the Vice-president of my college.
Practicing Roman Catholic who attended Jesuit high school and Catholic education my whole life.
Been on many mission trips to Mexico to build houses and help with Franciscan monks.

My goal is to get a degree in International Politics with an emphasis in either Latin American countries or Southeast Asian countries.

Ideally I would love to work for the UN or the State Department.

Please let me know if I am on the right track.

Thank You!

You need to contact the Registar's office at Georgetown for a definitive answer on this. Yahoo Answers is NOT the place to ask this very important question if you want a real answer.

I wish you luck. The State Dept. has it's faults, but it's better than most Government Agencies and you can have an entire career with them, see a lot of places and make some pretty good money in the process.

How is the "Catholic Climate Covenant" influencing Congressional votes on Cap and TAX?
A Day of Service

"Unprecedented Initiative Asks Catholics
"Who Is Under Your Carbon Footprint?"

WASHINGTON, DC.(April 21, 2009)--As the nation marks Earth Day, the Catholic community is launching an unprecedented initiative, the Catholic Climate Covenant, to bring together in new ways religious obligations to care for creation and care for "the least of these" as a distinctive Catholic contribution to the climate change debate.

Leading national Catholic organizations are calling on Catholic individuals and families, parishes and schools, religious communities, colleges and hospitals and other Catholic organizations to take a unique St. Francis Pledge to Care for Creation and the Poor.

Organizational partners and sponsors of the Covenant Campaign reach into every corner of Catholic life here and abroad, including:

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Catholic Charities USA serving nearly eight million people in more than 1,700 local Catholic Charities agencies and institutions

The Catholic Health Association of the United States serving one in six Americans in hospitals

Catholic Relief Services reaching more than 80 million people in more than 100 nations

The National Catholic Education Association, the largest private education system in the world

The Conference of Major Superiors of Men and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious representing hundreds of religious communities who lead with a sense of mission and real world examples of how to care for people in poverty and for God's gift of creation.

Participants also include: the Franciscan Action Network, the National Council of Catholic Women, the National Catholic Rural Life Conference, the National Federation of Priests Councils, the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, and many others.

The effort responds to and builds upon the leadership of Pope Benedict XVI, the U.S. Catholic Bishops, and many Catholic religious communities who believe that our response to climate change must be guided by the exercise of prudence, the pursuit of the common good and a priority for the poor.

Pope Benedict most recently referenced "troubling climate change" in his Easter message to the world. Before Easter, the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change sent resource packets (in English and Spanish), including the St. Francis Pledge, to all of the 17,000 Catholic parishes and 6,300 Catholic elementary schools in the nation. The Campaign and Pledge are also being promoted by a wide range of other Catholic organizations to reach deeply into every part of Catholic life.

Pressing the issue of responsibility for the impacts of climate change, the Campaign asks the haunting and provocative question "Who is Under Your Carbon Footprint?" in mailings to every parish in the nation, posters, and print ads in Catholic publications, and in major newspapers across the country.

A new website (www.catholicclimatecovenant.org), offers concrete help in carrying out the St Francis Pledge.

"The St. Francis Pledge is at the heart of this effort," says Dan Misleh, Executive Director of the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change. "By linking prayer, reflection and learning to assessment, action and advocacy, many more Catholics will become aware of the moral implications of climate change, make the connections between their own carbon footprint and their obligation to the poor and take private and public action to address the causes and consequences of climate change."

The whole world is insane it seems.

Christians, can I be catholic and go to heaven?
A Day of Service

from my understanding Catholic mass (church service) is more formal, while others (christian) are less formal... for the most part (from my experience) Protestants believe that your ticket to heaven lies (sp?) in asking for salvation where Cathlolics dwell more on being good or evil... catholics believe in confession through the priest and protestants prefer to go straight to god... catholics also believe in saints (to pray to), and protestants dont... there are some differences in the books in the bibles... Catholic priests are required to have specific educations....

You don't go to Heaven through religion. You go to Heaven through a relationship with Jesus. You must be born again into the family of Christ.

John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Roman Catholic Church in New France?
A Day of Service

Can I have a little help? I can't find information about the role of the Roman Catholic Church in New France. I need some help on what role the Roman Catholic Church plays in education of males and females in New France, what role the Roman Catholic Church plays in health care, what role the Roman Catholic Church plays in legal services, what role the Roman Catholic Church plays in religous duites (like services, baptisms, marriages, funerals, missions) Duites and responsibilites or the nuns and the priests. And the church as the focal point of the community or seigneury. I know this alot, but you happen to know any of these please tell me. Thanks you soooooo much.
Thank for the offer but I already checked Wikipedia out

Here's a little information I found on it:

In Canada the Church had little religious competition, so the country quickly became dominantly Catholic. The priests set up mission towns there, so the church quickly became the focal point of the community. Priests and nuns were responsible for the schools. Most were boys-only, but some were also for girls. Priests and nuns were likewise responsible for hospitals and healthcare. Priests certainly performed nearly all religious duties there. They also assumed certain legal duties (like drawing up contracts) when there were no notaries in the area. They got into politics at times. Essentially priests were in charge of small town government and had a definite influence over colonial government.

  • Catholic Education Service finally breaks its silence over SRE

The British Humanist Association (BHA) has responded to a statement by the Catholic Education Service (CES) that Catholic schools will uphold the teachings of the Church “in particular to all work about sex and relationships education” and “do not and would not promote abortion”. The CES claimed the credit for a Government amendment to the Children, Schools and Families Bill that permits state-funded “faith schools” to teach PSHE, which includes Sex and Relationships Education (SRE), “in a way that reflects the school’s religious character”.

Naomi Phillips, BHA Head of Public Affairs, said, ‘It is shameful that the Government has continued to deny, in statements in Parliament and to the press, that its last-minute amendment to its education bill permits state-funded faith schools to teach SRE in ways that are not balanced and accurate, when it is clear that is exactly what the change to proposed legislation will do. The statement from the CES makes clear that pupils in Catholic schools are unlikely to receive objective teaching on crucial issues such as contraception and abortion’

All those traditional blogs and still only one, uncritical, reference to Bishop Malcolm McMahon O.P. who is, in effect, in charge of the C.E.S.. Odd isn't it? He almost seems to promote the Extraordinary Form in his Diocese, but says little in the way of authentic Catholic teaching and they gun for Ms Stannard! No wonder the Church is struggling.

Again, traditonally minded Catholic families lost faith in the Catholic education system a long time before Ed Balls came into power...
