Any Catholic dvds useful for evangelization?
The CAUSE of Scary Things?...RELIGION

hi, i was just wondering if anyone was aware of any Catholic DVD's that could be used to evangelize. Something that maybe covered the topic of miracles or any other proofs or arguments of the Catholic Church?

Of course we evangelize!

I can recommend a DVD that is extremely well-done and explains the Mass, "The Catholic Mass -- Revealed". Here's one online source (with a link to see a preview) and there are probably others: http://www.catholiccompany.com/product_d etail.cfm?ID=15309&category=17

CDs are available from the Mary Foundation on a variety of subjects, recorded by well-known Catholic apologists and teachers such as Fr. John Corapi, Scott Hahn, Fr. Larry Richards, etc. They can be ordered individually or in bulk.

MannaMen Media: Catholic Evangelization for Jesus Christ

A video by MannaMen Media in response to John Paul II#39;s call for a new evangelization, spreading the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Catholics - The New Evangelization?
St Aidan

Pope John Paul II called for a "New Evangelization."

He said the Church's greatest mission is to proclaim the Gospel - the Good News of Jesus Christ to those who do not yet know Him.

Are you doing this?

What are you doing?

Have you accepted that you are part of God's plan the same as the apostles, St Paul, and the saints - chosen to play a specific role?

Have been since I became Catholic.

But I don't knock on doors and tell people they are going to hell.

Live a good example and answer questions when asked, maybe once in awhile throw in that I did not accomplish anything alone, people get the drift and will ask if they are interested.

If a non-Catholic is attending mass, I will invite them to RCIA class.

Peace be with you!

De Colores!

Is spreading lies against the Catholics part of fundamentalist evangelization?
Got Jesus?

James,
Sorry, if I have not responded to you earlier. I have been quite busy with work lately. If you have been coming to R&S you would know about the lies. But since you are asking, here are some the lies that are being spread by fundamentalists about Catholics.

1. Catholics are not Christians. The mainline protestants and even non-Christians (Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Hindus, Atheists) recognized the Catholics to be Christians. For some reason fundamentalists insist that Catholics are not.Christians.
2. Catholics worship Mary. Again a big lie that is repeated here in R&S and in the real world. We have denied this and explained Catholic doctrines on the veneration of Mary and the saints, citing that veneration of the saints have been practiced even by the early Christians.
3. Catholics are idolaters. Again, the Catholics have explained its position on images and that we do not use them as idols but the fundamentalists continue to spread this lie.
4. The Catholic religion was invented by Constantine. Here, the fundamentalists are rewriting history. We know that the Edict of Milan in AD 313 only legalized Christianity and did not create the Catholic Church. The Church had been increasing long before. Constanine did not convert to Christianity until his old age, in his death bed.
5. Catholics consider the Pope sinless, or as equal to God, or that we worship the Pope. We have said many times that the Pope is not equal to God and is also a sinner. If he were not a sinner, why would he go to confession. We do not worship the pope. We kiss the rings of bishops and the pope as a sign of respect for their positions. There are a lot of terrible accusations against the Pope...that he was or is a Nazi.
5. I read one question here that said that Pope Pius XII declared that Mary never died. This is a lie or a twisting of facts. The declaration of the
assumption as dogma did not include a declaration that Mary never died.
6. Catholics added books to the Bible. History tells us that Luther removed the Deuterocanonicals (or what you call the Apocrypha) from the Bible. The Catholics did not add them. In fact, Luther included the Deuterocanonicals in his first German translation, published before the Council of Trent. They can also be found in the first King James Version (1611) and in the first Bible ever printed, the Guttenberg Bible (a century before Trent). In fact, these books were included in almost every Bible until the Edinburgh Committee of the British Foreign Bible Society excised them in 1825. Until then, they had been included at least in an appendix of Protestant Bibles.

There are many more but will take up a lot of space.
Oops...I made a mistake in numbering. There are 2 number 5s in the list. So actually I listed 7 lies, not 6.

definitely is.. how else can they recruit, if not by attacking the established organized religions before them -truth is they even stole the term christianity from the catholics. catholics have the better sense to just leave them alone in their delusion, knowing that the innocent ones they were able to manipulate would themselves see through the lies and hypocrisy in time , and would seek their own righteousness apart from these fundies.

they also resort to abusive reporting when a Q or an A puts them in a bad light. cheap and dirty plays seem to mark their general attitude.

According to the BBB, in one year Pat Robertson takes in $462 million while Catholic Charities USA takes in...
IMGP7449

..........about $19 million. Robertson's money goes to humanitarian relief and evangelism in different forms. Catholic Charities USA spends its money on disaster relief, housing for the poor, social education and other social activity to help the poor as well as education regarding these projects.

I have worked as a volunteer for Catholic Charities. I happen to know that they do no formal evangelization at all with this money. Evangelization is done primarily by individuals within the Church who just go out and evangelize however they know how, whether it is online, writing books, or whatever. It's not organized, in other words. Not very much. There is some organization but it is way on the back burner.

So, is there a connection between the $462 million and the evangelization? Does love = money? Do people go to the church that pays their electric bill? What do you think are the demographics of Robertson's donors compared to Catholics?
You can research any charity at the Better Business Bureau. http://welcome.bbb.org/
I just found this information but I'm not sure how accurate it is.....about Mr. Robertson's positions on certain things. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Roberts on_controversies

One reason Robertson's fund raising is so effective is his televangelism. But keep in mind, the Catholic charity you mentioned is just one Catholic charity. Robertson represents one branch of Evangelical Christians. If you add up all of Catholic charities, like Food for the Poor, the Sisters of Charity [and all other orders working directly with the poorest of the poor], as well as CRS, and others, what total do you get?

I would also ask that you not make the mistake of equating dollars with successful evangelization. We all need conversion, even/especially the wealthy. We evangelize one person at a time, even here on Yahoo R&S.

is there a church document that mentions the importance of blog or blogging as a tool for evangelization?
IMGP7451

i am a catholic.

what does "Evangelization" mean?

What does it mean to Evangelize someone? are you trying win converts?

Cant you people leave others alone at all??

  • Vatican Spokesman Refutes Murphy Case Accusations - International ...

VATICAN CITY  (Zenit.org)  - There were no cover-ups, the Vatican is confirming in response to media accusations that tried to implicate Benedict XVI in the case of a priest accused of abusing deaf children.

Today, several media sources followed the New York Times in reporting a story about Father Lawrence Murphy, a priest from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who was accused of molesting up to 200 children.

The Holy See published the statement that Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office, gave to the Times, in which he deplored this "tragic case" that "involved particularly vulnerable victims who suffered terribly."

Father Murphy was accused of sexually abusing children while he worked as director of St. John School for the Deaf in St. Francis, Wisconsin, from July 1, 1963 to May 18, 1974.

Cardinal Levada Denounces NY Times Media Attacks on Pope ...

ROME (CNA/EWTN News) - In a statement released on the Vatican website , Cardinal William J. Levada charged that the recent media attacks on the Holy Father by the New York Times concerning sex abuse within the Church are "deficient by any reasonable standards of fairness" that American readers have come to expect from major media outlets.

Cardinal Levada, who is the current prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), began his remarks by addressing a recent New York Times article by senior columnist Laurie Goodstein which leveled charges against the Vatican's handling of a Milwaukee sex abuse case. The prelate also took issue with an accompanying editorial which echoed Goodstein's perspective.

"I am not proud of America's newspaper of record, the New York Times," Cardinal Levada wrote."Both the article and the editorial are deficient by any reasonable standards of fairness that Americans have every right and expectation to find in their major media reporting," stressed the cardinal, who then discussed what he found to be most troubling in Goodstein's March 24 article.
