Because the Catholic church has a well documented history of hypocrisy and brutality. I mean, look at purgatory. That was just a way for the church to scare people into giving them all their money, so there loved ones could leave purgatory and continue on to Heaven. See also- the spanish Inquisition.

i need to find three symbols in The Ascension by Andrea Mantegna picture and i know the flag means something but i have no clue. Anyone know? Any other symbols in there?

I am doing a graduate level paper on freedom of speech, and I was wondering what the Catholic Church's views are on defacing the flag. Any help would be appreciated!

I cannot find any opinion of the Catholic Church on the burning of flags. But the Church does have clear teachings about the duties of citizens.

Civil allegiance is the duty of loyalty and obedience which a person owes to the country of which he is a citizen.

Citizens are obliged in conscience not to follow the directives of civil authorities that are contrary to
+ The demands of the moral order
+ The fundamental rights of persons
+ The teachings of the Gospel.

Refusing obedience to civil authorities, when their demands are contrary to those of an upright conscience, finds its justification in the distinction between serving God and serving the political community.

"Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." (Mt 22:21)
