Is it theologically appropriate to perform Kyrie Eleison at a Catholic funeral Mass?

Also, how common is it for the family to perform the pallbearing? I saw this done with Eunice Kennedy Shriver's funeral, and I really admire it and would like for that to be done at the passing of any of my family members.

Yes, the Lord have Mercy (Kyrie Eleison) prayer is prayed or sung during every Mass.

In western cultures, pallbearers are usually associated in an intimate manner with the deceased before their death.

In some Asian cultures, Pallbearers are not to be members of the family but are outsiders, who perform the services of pallbearer.

Is anyone familiar with how a Roman Catholic funeral mass works?

Is there an open casket at the mass?
What is the thing called that is put on top of the casket (looks like a blanket)?
Is the holy water sprinkled before or after the priest covers the casket with the blanket?
After the priest is done with the holy water, what comes next? Does the priest talk some more?
When to they give the bread and wine?
Please help! Any additional steps to how the mass works would help. Thank you.

The congregation are seated, then the casket is rolled in, and placed before the altar. The priest comes down and blesses the casket (actually the body, though the casket remains closed) with holy water and offers a few prayers for the deceased. After that it is pretty much the same as any other Mass until the end, when the priest offers final prayers for the deceased before the casket is taken out. There may be a short eulogy offered from the pulpit, though that is optional.

How long does an average Catholic funeral mass last?

Should I bring my ipod?

Too fecking long!

How long does a Catholic funeral mass last?

I am attending a funeral mass tomorrow for the first time. I have no idea how long it will last. I need to know due to childcare-how long I will need a sitter.Thank You-

A Catholic funeral is broken into three parts.

The Vigil. This used to be called the Rosary. The night before the Requiem Mass, a prayer service is celebrated. Eulogies and/or the rosary may also be said at this time. The Irish culture call this a wake.

The Requiem Mass. A full Mass with Scripture read and explained and Eucharist (Holy Communion) received with extra funeral prayers. This will take about an hour.

You may leave when this is over or follow the procession to the cemetery.

The Burial. A short final prayer service at graveside. The prayer service will take about 15 minutes.

A reception at someone's home with food may follow.

What is the order of a Catholic funeral Mass for a nun?

And how is it different from a regular Catholic funeral Mass? (My great-aunt, a Franciscan nun, passed away last night, hence this question.)

Just about the same any for any Catholic.

Throughout the centuries, over a billion people around the world have witnessed the service and dedication of Catholic priests.  Some recall the heroic and sacrificial example of military chaplains, priests who serve in nursing homes and hospitals, fathers who feed the poor, pastors who serve as peacemakers during marriage counseling, or priests who have celebrated a family wedding or funeral Mass.

Yet today, the secular media is laser-focused on only a handful of wayward priests who have betrayed Jesus and the teachings of His Church, and are violating a sacred oath and trust. But millions of faithful priests and bishops serve as heroic shepherds of their flocks, leading rewarding and spirit-filled lives of service to others.
