Catholic home school curriculum?

I've been thinking about the possibility of home schooling my children. There are many reasons for this, not the least of which is the fact my husband's job keeps us moving around the country a lot. I was home schooled through elementary school, and I am very pleased with the education I received. I know the curriculum my mother used was Christian based. Does anybody know if there is a Catholic based homeschool curriculum available? The one I used as a child was A Becca (I believe that's the way it was spelled), but I would like one with a Catholic base for my kids. Thanks for any help. God bless.

There is Seton Home School

Emmanuel Books & Neumann Press are great suppliers.

Perhaps you would like to go the route of St. Thomas Aquinas Academy--it's an independent Catholic homeschool plan.

I have listed some links that will help you with Catholic curriculum.

Good Luck & Best Wishes.

Homeschool Curriculum - non-religious - 11th grade?

So right now I'm doing school online. And it's not working out - we are having Internetproblems and I've had to go to the library and pay to use the computer or drive a ways to a family members house to use their computer - so I'm going back to regular Home Schooling.
I need a curriculum that is NOT Christian, or Catholic, or anything.
I'm a junior in High School - these are the classes I need (they can be from different curriculums as long as they are NOTTT religious).
Algebra 2
Chemistry
English 10/World Literature or American Literature
Social Studies 10/World History or World Studies
Pre-Calculus or something similar
Biology (Advanced, or for 10th grade)

*I know Biology comes before Chemistry. But I want Biology so I can review, I took it in 9th grade.
*I know Algebra 2 comes before Pre-Calculus, I'm taking them both. But I obviously won't start Pre-Calc until I finish Alg.2.

Thanks in advance. !!!
I have gotten books "for Christian families" and so has my friend that is homeschooled and we both had problems with them. They focus more on religion then actually learning the subject.
I'm not a Christian so it doesn't work for me.
I want to learn about the subjects I'd be taking in school, not religion and God. That's what church is for.
Even with the Christian Curriculum I had it was all religious, even the math and science. I figured that the english and history would be religious and whatnot, but even in the MATH (geometry) it's pretty much all they talked about...
And in science, it was about 50/50.

It's just frusterating.
But thanks for all the great answers!!!

My daughter does not use religious premise materials with her home schooling either, so don't worry about voicing exactly what you are looking for here ;-).

I'm not sure what your financial situation may be, but there is the option of ordering textbooks from publishers, as we do, or even searching for them and purchasing them through places like Ebay. For the past three years I have ordered books from McDougal-Littell and my daughter and I have both been very satisfied. There is a form that your parent(s) would need to fill out in order to purchase the Teacher's Editions, but it is very simple to do and well worth it.

I provided a link to McDougal below. Good luck finding the resources you prefer! :)

Need Advice on Homeschooling....?

My kids have always been in Catholic School -- which I LOVE. There are no concerns/problems with their school and I planned to volunteer in the 3rd grade and a Kindergarten classes. Then, it hit me -- I'll homeschool the kids with a Catholic curriculum. I have very mixed feelings. Academically/socially the kids will do great. We'll do extracurricular activities and meet other homeschoolers. However, my daughter will make her First Communion & Confirmation this year, and I would like her to be instructed with her friends. She also wants to join choir. For my son, he will never get to experience "real" school (only pre & prek). But, If I homeschool, no more yearbooks/videos/special events. Plus, if this doesn't work, we lose their spots and will go on the waiting list for the next year. But then again, we'll have the benefits of homeschooling, save time (45 min one way = 1 1/2 hr round trip twice a day = 3 hours minimum in the car), and we are all home together. Don't know what to do.

Can you daughter take the instructions on First Communion and Confirmation with the church and not be in the school? Can she join choir with the church?
I don't think it is selfish to want to home school. If you were selfish you would send your kids to school and enjoy yourself.

Buying Supplemental Homeschool Texts?

My son will be in first grade this year. I've been homeschooling him for 3 years, always using my own materials. That's what I had planned on doing for this year, too, but my deadline is fast approaching (along with baby #3, due the end of Sept!). I have about $200 to spend on materials and I was thinking or ordering a few textbooks to cut back on my workload, but after a brief search, have found nothing that looks good. I don't want/can't afford a whole curriculum...maybe just a science book and/or a history book or whatever (anything would help at this point). Does anyone have any good recommendations? We are a Catholic homeschooling family, but the books don't necessarily need to be Catholic-based.

Reading and math are the main focus in 1st grade. No real science or history.Spelling words are usually "sight words".You could try Ebay or a used web site/store for purchasing material. There is a lot of free worksheets you can get online too.

  • Apostolate of Roman Catholic Homeschoolers: College Connections

I have a college student, a junior in high school and an eighth grader this year. So, I was so very pleased to receive a little gift from ARCH in the mail: the packet which included the College Connections booklet from the University of St. Thomas. I had used this booklet with my older son when he was planning his college future. He had visited St. Thomas and though he decided to go elsewhere, we found this booklet useful. The booklet has suggestions for preparation based on a timeline and the suggestions are useful for making any college plans. It covers the application process, college visits, financial aid planning, and other topics.

Catholic Homeschool Blog Directory: KY Catholic Homeschool Conference

For a little background information on our conference, it is being sponsored by our local homeschool group, Saint Benedict's Homeschool Association (SBHA), in conjunction with St. Christopher Cathoic Church and St. Helen Catholic Church. Kentucky has never had a Catholic homeschool conference and we decided to change that this year. Our hope is that this conference will grow and become a yearly event. The date of the Conference is scheduled for Saturday, June 5th. It will be held at St. Christopher's Parish in Radcliff, KY, in their old school building. We have invited all of the Catholic Homeschool Curriculum Vendors, plus math, language, and music vendors, etc. We also hope to have college reps there from Thomas Aquinas, Wyoming Catholic, Christendom, Thomas More, and Magdalen.
