Are Roman Catholic Mass cards appropriate for deceased members of the Slovak Catholic Church?
Vatican II Prayer Card

I do not want to offend family members.

There are significant Russian-Orthodox and Uniate minorities in Slovakia, but the great majority of the population are "normal" Roman Catholics, just like Roman Catholics anywhere in the world. The Uniates are part of the Roman Catholic Church, but have their own Russian Orthodox-derived liturgy, art and traditions.

I doubt anyone would be offended by getting the "wrong" mass cards, and if they are members of the majority (Latin rite) Catholic Church you have no reason to worry at all.

Mass Cards? Praying for the dead!

Why do the most catholic funerals have mass cards? What do they signify?
JFK Prayer Card

catholics offer wreaths, flowers, candles, prayers from the start of the wake until the burial of the deceased. mass cards are just one form of tangible offering; essentially, those cards are bought for the specific purpose of offering a Mass for the soul of the deceased. and as explained by a previous respondent, a Mass is actually celebrated wherein an "intention" is to pray for the eternal repose of the decedent's soul.

Is it OK to send a Jewish person a Catholic mass card?
Prayer Cards I

I have a Jewish friend who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm Catholic and want to send her a "healing" mass card. The priests will pray for her healing during mass. Is this OK? Is there a chance she would be offended? My thought is that prayers transcend religion and any prayers would be welcome. What do you think? Thanks in advance to all who answer.

Dear Irish Lass,

We always welcome good thoughts, no matter where they are coming from. I truly respect where your heart is, but my Jewish opinion is that you should mention that you will pray for her, and give her a regular card.

There are Jews who are sensitive about these sorts of things, and if you're unsure, it's best to err on the side of caution.

  • Catholic Gifts – Ideas for Baptism and More: A Guide to Religious ...

Within the Catholic Church, there are seven sacraments. While some, such as the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, may be celebrated individually, most are community events. Family and friends often join together to commemorate occasions such as baptism, first communion and confirmation.

It is not uncommon for gifts to be bestowed upon the person receiving the sacrament. However, it can be difficult to find the perfect item to mark these important events. Below are some suggestions for Catholic gift-giving as well as unique gifts.

    Catholic Baptism Gifts

At baptism, original sin is removed, and a person formally enters into the Catholic Church. Although baptism can occur at any time, most Catholic parents have their children baptized as infants. Since Catholic baby gifts are not always easy to find, many baptismal gifts are intended for either future use or as a remembrance of the day.

Why do I speak out against the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Mass? As a former Roman Catholic I speak out for the following reasons:

    1] The Mass is unbiblical.

2] The Mass is a false doctrine propagated by a false church.

3] Many Evangelical Christian “leaders” have promoted unity with Roman Catholicism (thereby endorsing their false gospel, Galatians 1:8,9).

The Bible warns us about seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:1)
