Help?! What's high school like??
The Dazzaler

Hey, I'm going to Catholic Memorial high school and I am really scared. I don't know a lot of people or anything. Its a catholic high school. I am going to be a freshmin this fall. Also, I really want to get good grades in high school. What should I do to get good grades?? Also what is high school like???

wow i was in your position when i started high school. went to a school where i knew NOBODY. it was hard at first b/c i am so shy but it got better over time. join clubs and sports teams or leadership or the yearbook staff to meet people! i mean there was a point where i wanted to transfer outta there but i stayed and im glad i did. high school was the best four years of my life and it i got the chance to do it all over i again, i would do it in a hearbeat.

to get good grades. hmmmm well you should definitely stay focused. by this i not only mean do your work and dont talk but also dont take on after school jobs or join sports teams or anything until you know how much you can handle. high school is not hard. its just like middle school cept the ppl are more mature and the classes are a little more professional. nothing to be scared of though. also. BIG TIP: if you find yourself with a D or a FAIL or a grade you dont necessarily want, on the first progress report, dont assume that by the next report card that grade will come up. its up to you. you are the one that is responsible for asking the teacher on a regular basis what assignments you are missing or what is going to be on next weeks test. when you miss a class, go into that class and MAKE UP THE WORK!!!!you will be fine dont worry

Highschool is no big deal if you follow a few rules:

1. Don't take your emotions seriously - you're going to be laughing at yourself when you're 25 about how dramatic everything was in highschool, just like you're laughing now at how dramatic everything was in gradeschool.

2.Listen to school authority and teachers. It's worthwhile to actually pay attention at school instead of being the class clown or loud obnoxious girl. A good education gets you the job of your dreams in the future.

3. Make friends that care about you. It's not fun to have friends just they're "popular" or wear the best clothes, just make friends with honest, respectable kids.

4. Be real with people. So what if you're into studying bugs? So what if you love theater? Be yourself, and people around you will respect you.

Best of luck to you in highschool! I'm a Junior and Highschool has been the best experience of my life!

teen converting to catholicism?
Five roses

i am in 8th grade. i am a reform jew. im not exactly religious but when i was really little i used to go to sunday school. i go to temple about once or twice a year, for memorial services for my grandparents. my dad is 100% jewish, and my mom is half jewish, half episcopal christian. ( she was raised jewish) next year, for high school, i will be attending a catholic school. (long story why i chose that school, but i am excited) often i feel very alone and not guided by any spiritual or religious means. i think that next year will help me get more in touch with that. i have many catholic friends. i know alot about the religion and i am interested in converting. next year, while going to a catholic school, do you think it will be possible to convert? do you think it will be easier since i will be going to a catholic school? i am afraid that my parents will be like the catholic school brainwashed you...i cant believe we sent you there. how long will the process take? please help me and no mean comments. thanks you so much.

Following the LORD is the most important thing you will do in your life.

It is very important to learn what is accepted by the Almighty and what He despises.

Before you make a commitment that will guide you through this world and to the next be sure that you know the facts.

I suggest you start now reading, learning and studying the Bible.

Do not take anyone for their word, but READ it for yourself.

I often wonder how it is that people will be so discriminating with such things as child care, doctors, what car to drive and so on . . .

Yet, when it comes to our ETERNITY people just take the word of non-biblical teachers.

But, Christ warned us that there would be many FALSE teachers, religions, and prophets.

Here is the first clue for you as you make the decision to choose Catholicism.

1. The Roman Catholic church teaches and practices pagan rituals of worship that the Almighty Absolutely FORBIDS His People to participate in. He clearly maintains that He DOES NOT WANT THAT TYPE OF WORSHIP (Deuteronomy 12:4).

2. The Christ made it very clear many years before the Roman church became affiliated and eventually took over the Church of Christ that No one on this earth is to call a man "Father" for only God in Heaven is your spiritual Father. (Matthew 23:9)

This is just two of the more serious teachings of the Roman church that you should really call on the LORD to lead you to the correct choice.

Be Blessed:-)

Father: Funeral protest made him sick. Would you sue also?
Twin Birds

Finally someone is fighting these nutcases in court!

Excerpts:

BALTIMORE -- The father of a Marine killed in Iraq took the stand in his invasion of privacy suit against a fundamentalist church that pickets soldiers' funerals, saying protesters carrying signs at his son's burial made him sick to his stomach.
Albert Snyder said Wednesday he had hoped for a private funeral for his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder.
"They turned this funeral into a media circus and they wanted to hurt my family," Snyder testified. "They wanted their message heard and they didn't care who they stepped over. My son should have been buried with dignity, not with a bunch of clowns outside."

Yes, it’s the Westboro Baptist Church led by Fred Phelps. They actually have a schedule listing future protests at memorial services:

·Schedules for upcoming pickets
·Memorial for Staff Sgt. Donald Munn II - at 9:15 a.m., Fri., Oct. 26 - at St. Margaret Catholic Dog Kennel, 21201 Thirteen Mile Rd., Saint Clair Shores, MI.
·Memorial for Army Pfc. Kenneth Iwasinski - at 10:45 a.m., Sat., Oct. 27 - at Belchertown High School, 142 Springfield Road, Belchertown, MA.
·Funeral of Army Spc. Michael Brown - at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, October 27th - at Ottawa University Chapel, 1001 Cedar, Ottawa, Kansas

Phelps has run in various Kansas Democratic Party primaries five times, but has never won. Phelps supported Al Gore in the 1988 Democratic Party primary election

Before you jump on the Republicans, think again. This guy is a Democrat! Don’t waste your time… HA!

I’m a supporter of free speech, but am appalled that this people can get within a mile of a memorial service or funeral to protest. What are your feelings? How would you feel if you were burying a relative and these people showed up to protest?

These people make me so very angry. I am a member of a motorcycle organization called The Patriot Guard. We were formed specifically to counter these people's protests. We escort funeral processions and stand in front of the protesters so they cannot be seen. You can't imagine how much will power it takes not to turn around and start stomping this scum into the ground. P.S. After seeing all the thumbs up I got from this answer, I posted in the motorcycle section to let other riders know about the Patriot Guard and gave the web address. Yahoo removed my post calling it a violation. Just thought I'd let 'ya know.

Again, I have to make the disclaimer that I am missing some info for this era, particularly the freshmen roster info for '69, '71 (I have the names and hometowns for this year, but no high school names), '72 and '73. I will make the additions when that info comes in. ANY mistakes or ommissions that any reader notices are not intentional and I would appreciate anyone letting me know what I'm missing.
