Tell me about Catholic prayer cards, please.?

There are different types...some are of Saints, which have info about the saint and a prayer for their prayers for you. Different saints have specialties....St George prays for Boy Scouts, St. Michael for Police officers and soldiers, St Florian for firefighters, St Dymphna for people dealing with mentalillness.

Other prayer cards are for the deceased. You get these at their funeral...has their information, when the funeral will be held and where....and a prayer for the deceased. Catholics generally keep these in their Bibles. YES, we have bibles and YES we read them!

Other prayer cards may be in honor of a special event, 1st Communion, ordination, anniversary of wedding or ordination. It is a way of requesting prayers.

A Catholic friend of mine gave me two prayer cards with St Joseph and St Jude on them. Who are these Saints?

I thought it was a really nice thing for her to do for me. I am not Catholic but my friend said she thought they would help me because I feel a bit low, due to trying to get pregnant but it's not happening. Who are St Jude and St Joseph and what is their purpose? I am curious now about the Catholic religion (I'm baptised in the Church of England) and feel comforted by the prayer cards so any information anyone can give will be useful.
Thankyou Jimbob that is kind of you

St Joseph is the foster father of Our Lord Jesus Christ and is a saint who will never fail you when you need help. I have experienced his help in many a difficult situation. I call him Papa Joseph. Just as he struggled to protect our Lord Jesus and Our Lady in many a perilous situation and tried to provide them the best though he was poor, he now comes to the aid of the faithful who ask for his help. He is too soft-hearted to refuse one who pleads to him and he speaks for you promptly before the throne of God. God answers his prayers quickly because of St. Joseph's position and dignity in the church and in heaven. Some of his titles are 'Solace of the afflicted', 'Mirror of Patience', 'Terror of demons', 'Lover of poverty', ' Head of the Holy Family', ' Glory of home life', 'Pillar of families', etc.

Each Wednesday in the year is dedicated to St Joseph, and all those devoted to him should on this particular day, practice special devotion in his honour. And his own month, the month of March is set aside to honour him especially, will be gladly welcomed each year by the devout clients of the foster-father of Our Divine Lord. St Joseph was very near and dear to the heart of Jesus in his life, and so, too, he is very close to the hearts of those who love Jesus and who try to follow him, no matter how feebly.

The intercession of St Joseph is very powerful. St Teresa says: 'I know by experience that the glorious St Joseph assists us generally in all necessities. I have never asked him for anything which he did not obtain for me. '

And that great Franciscan saint - St Margaret of Crotona heard Our Lord say: 'If you would do what is pleasing to me, do not let a single day pass without offering some tribute of praise and veneration to St Joseph.' Therefore, let us pray to him constantly, and ask him to lay our petitions at the foot of the great white throne. Let us ask for patience on the hard road, and perseverance in our trials; above all, let us beg him each day for the grace of a holy and a happy death.

If you are interested in knowing more about this good saint I would recommend Pere Binet's book ' The divine favors granted to St. Joseph'.

Here is prayer that you can say to him everyday for thirty days .

I know that St Jude is a powerful saint too though I've never prayed to him for help yet. He is called the saint of impossible causes.

Hope you are blessed with a child soon. God bless!

What is the significance of mass/prayer cards and a crucifix found buried in a yard/garden?

My husband and I recently moved into a new house and have started doing some gardening now that the weather has turned warm. Twice now, he has encountered Catholic iconic items buried in areas where we have dug to put in vegetables or flowers (mass/prayer cards w/ the Virgin Mother) and this weekend, he discovered a crucifix buried in the roots of a rosebush he was trying to move. We're both Protestant, although I did attend a Catholic highschool, and we are puzzled by the finds. I'm familiar with the tradition of burying a statue of St. Joseph when you are trying to sell a house, but can anyone enlighten me on the burial of the prayer cards and the crucifix? We haven't found animal remains that might suggest the burial of a pet - just the artifacts.

Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you.

The prayer cards and crucifix were probably blessed. Catholics believe that when something is blessed it's considered holy and consecrated to God, so we are not allowed to throw it out into the garbage. When a catholic no longer uses a sacramental such as the prayer cards, and crucifix we either burn it or bury it under the ground.

What handmade present can I make for my catholic sister?

I have a very low budget this year, and am looking for handmade present ideas.

My sister is Catholic and really enjoys things that have to do with that. She already has a lot of rosaries and last year for Christmas I made her a prayer card with the name of a saint who shares her name (she really liked it).

Are there any other presents that I can make? I l can draw/etc. so that is not an issue.

Thank you!

“I’ll be praying about that.” Psha!  You’re not going to be praying about that.  Half the reason you say it is because you’re too embarrassed to stop right then and pray about it.  And the other half is because you don’t know what to say, and “I’ll be praying about that” has a nice, churchy ring to it.  Let’s have the gumption to pray about it right then and there, while our friend is spilling his guts to us and in need of help.  Or let’s take this learning-to-pray-for-people thing slowly, and start with baby steps:  ”I will pray about that.”  This implies that, at least once, you will pray about this problem.  And then do it — just once, pray for that person.  ”I’ll be...

Catholic Priests Supported by Emerging Grassroots Effort (For ...

Throughout the centuries, over a billion people around the world have witnessed the service and dedication of Catholic priests.  Some recall the heroic and sacrificial example of military chaplains, priests who serve in nursing homes and hospitals, fathers who feed the poor, pastors who serve as peacemakers during marriage counseling, or priests who have celebrated a family wedding or funeral Mass.

Yet today, the secular media is laser-focused on only a handful of wayward priests who have betrayed Jesus and the teachings of His Church, and are violating a sacred oath and trust. But millions of faithful priests and bishops serve as heroic shepherds of their flocks, leading rewarding and spirit-filled lives of service to others.
