Writing a speech about importance of Catholic Religious Education?!?
Woman holding a bible

Hi, I'm writing a speech on the importance of Catholic Religious Education and I have everything written except for the Introduction. The Introduction should be 2 to 3 sentences but I need a really thought provoking or interesting first sentence. I was thinking of using the definition of education but this is for a competition and many others may be using the same idea. Do you know of any interesting quotes that may work or any other good introduction starters?
Thanks.

The educational mission of the Church is an integrated ministry embracing three interlocking dimensions: the message revealed by God (didache) which the Church proclaims; fellowship in the life of the Holy Spirit (koinonia); service to the Christian community and the entire human community (diakonia)."

Religious Education in Catholic schools?
Woman and the Bible

This question is for all the Catholics out there who have attended Catholic schools. What did you really learn about your faith and church in religion class? I attended catholic schools and although the overall education made it worthwhile I feel that the religious education was severely lacking. In 12 years I didn't really learn anything about what it means to be catholic and didn't really start learning anything about my faith till college. At this point in life most Catholics don't even care anymore so why isn't anything being done to change this and make it better so that after 12 years of education the students know what the catholic church teaches, its history, and about having faith and living it. I don't think I learned much of any of those three in my years of education. What are your thoughts?
Well the point is that the bare essentials weren't taught thats the point. They don't teach enough for anyone to even begin to understand the faith.

My catholic education taught me that God was either insane or what the church was telling me about God was a lie.

Thank God the latter was true.

Why is it that most people of noble blood that i know or have met are all extremely religious and catholic?
VLYT Fab 5

...In Europe that is! Their religious fervour is surprisingly close to fanatism, would it be their education? I do not believe in god even though i received a strict catholic education when i was young.

<<Why is it that most people of noble blood that i know or have met are all extremely religious and catholic?>>

Leading a religious life is a noble thing to do.

<<...In Europe that is!>>

Anywhere, it doesn't matter where.

<<Their religious fervour is surprisingly close to fanatism, would it be their education?>>

Why do I get the feeling that anyone more religious than you gets labelled a "fanatic"?
Education is a good thing, but it doesn't take an education to be religious.

All it takes is Faith.

<<I do not believe in god even though i received a strict catholic education when i was young.>>

Again, merely being educated in the Faith doesn't guarantee Faith.

  • Religious education consultants criticize efforts to remove ...

.- Regional superintendents of Religious Education in Costa Rica are denouncing suggestions to remove Catholic education courses from public schools following a ruling by Costa Ricas Constitutional court.  The recent decision stripped the Church's right to choose which religion teachers are hired in Costa Rican schools.

Last month, Costa Rica's Constitutional Court reversed a 1972 law stating that all religious teachers must be approved by the Bishops Conference of Costa Rica.

We sense an ideological interest to eliminate the subject of Religious Education on the part of some feminist, secular and pseudo-Christian groups who see the Catholic Church as an entity opposed to their agenda, the consultants said in a statement.

They called on educational officials to respect the legal norms allowing the Department of Religious Education to continue selecting religion teachers for the interim, because having an academic title is not enough for teaching this material. One needs ecclesial recognition of a charism, they noted.

Religious education is an inalienable right, Costa Rican bishops ...

.- The bishops of Costa Rica released a statement expressing concern over a recent ruling by the country's Constitutional Court which stripped the Church its right to choose which religion teachers will be hired in Costa Rican schools.

Last month, Costa Rica's Constitutional Court took away the Church's right to choose which religion teachers it will hire, after reversing a 1972 law stating that all religious teachers must be approved by the Bishops Conference of Costa Rica.

We respect the decision of the Constitutional Court, but at the same time we are concerned about the insecurity and confusion that the ruling has caused among teachers and students of religious education, as well as parents, the bishops said.

The foundation of religious education, they explained, lies in the inalienable right of Catholic parents to educate their children according to their faith and convictions. It is a human right that must be respected, and it is the duty of the Costa Rican State to make the greatest effort possible to ensure parents are offered this education in public schools.
