for my culminating task i have to make a museum brochure and mine is on roman catholic weddings. we have to have 8 symbols and i don't know what else i can do i already have: vows, rings, consummation, bible verses, white wedding dress, the priest?
they have to have religious significance and i have no clue what else to do as my symbols? can anyone help!?
thank you!
does anyone know any websites i can look at to find reliable information on consummation?
In very traditional weddings the bride's bouquet, or at least a part of it, is left at the altar for the Virgin Mary as an offering for a good marriage.
Most Catholic weddings are performed within the Celebration of the Eucharist, so you have the whole communion symbolism, and the bride and groom sometimes share the communion wine from one cup.
The father giving the bride 'away' is considered symbolic of God the Father giving The Bride (the Church) to The Holy Groom (Jesus). These are Very Old symbols that are not commonly thought of in modern times, but they do still exist.

I read this article in the Chicago Tribune, about a court case regarding the Baha'i Faith (which I regard highly), and wanted to share it with you:

In other words, for instance, should the Roman Catholic Church be able to sue if a religious group called the "Pastacatholic Chuch" sprung up using Roman Catholic symbols and a different interpretation of Catholic doctrine?
No. You can't trademark just any symbol or word. Trademarking the cross would be like trademarking a circle. Who invented it? No one. it's been around for forever. A very long time ago Christians adopted it. That doesn't give them intellectual ownership of it.
The Baha'i are referring to a specific image that was not in common circulation before the creation of the Baha'i faith. The image can be seen here: http://altreligion.about.com/od/symbols/ ig/Baha-i-Faith-Symbol-Gallery/The-Great est-Name.htm
I disagree with the idea, but its a problematic grey area. The Church of Scientology, for example, trademarks and copyrights everything it produces, and why not? Why should an author not be protected just because he or she is writing about religion? We know who the authors are, we know when they were produced, and and they are recent documents (any document created before a certain date is considered public domain according to US copyright laws, and most Baha'i documents fall within that date range)
I do understand there is a no jewelery rule but a religious symbol for a catholic school that we get told we can wear??
It's a private school and i do understand that there is a no jewelery rule. It is a catholic school which is highly religious in my opion i should be aloud to express and be proud of my religion? What are your opinions
if that happened to me i would be pissed and i would say im not taking it off and you cant make me. and if they touch you ( try to take it of for you) you can sew!

I don't mean just at Christmas, but year round? My priest last week was talking about religious art in our homes showing others we are Catholics. I have one statue of Mary on a bookshelf and Our Lady of Perpetual help picture in my bedroom. What do you have displayed?
I have a prominently displayed crucifix in my home. This is to remind me of what is the center of my life.
Since most Protestants would only have a cross and not a crucifix, this would tell any visitors that my family and I are Catholic.
With love in Christ.

mollox: Good Friday pub opening
Christian/Catholic religious tradition means that pubs in Ireland are legally obliged to close on two days of the year – Good Friday and Christmas Day. In a society which is becoming more religiously diverse and increasingly secular, many question whether the traditional catholic ethos should continue to have the same prominence. This is typically manifested in calls for RTE to drop the Angelus, for Christmas cribs and trees not to be displayed in public buildings etc etc.. Some years ago I watched a discussion on BBC involving former Labour party government minister Roy Hattersley and a coloured lesbian lady whose name escapes me. They were discussing some recent anti-gay comments reported in the media. Hattersley spouted the usual liberal, politically-correct line, something to the...

Belgium: French Community schools ban headscarves
Many schools in the Belgian French Community already ban the headscarf.
The internal school regulations of 110 of the 129 schools [85%] of the French community educational system ban the wearing of religious symbols, according to a hearing in a committee of the various Francophone parliaments.
In the Catholic educational system, most schools have adjusted their internal regulations years ago and students must remove any head covering when they enter the school building.
