why do they wear uniforms? i go to a catholic school. i have to obey the rules, im going to obey the rules. i would just like to know why uniforms have to do with being catholic? nobody has ever given me a consistent answer on this, so please, impress me.
ha almost forgot to add this. the school has just institued a new rule that our pants must be a certain brand. the single company that provides the brand is owned by the catholic church. a couple lights went off in my head when i figured that one out, like something wasnt quite right.
It's to keep all the kids on the same level. Everyone dresses the same and should realize everyone is just as good as everyone else. The kids learn to get to know each other and not judge by the clothing someone is wearing.
Also, it keeps the little slutty outfits and the "fad" crap out of the school and helps the kids focus on LEARNING instead of fashion.
It has nothing to do with being Catholic, many kids in Catholic schools are not.
Tori and Mary list off 16 reasons for when you know you#39;ve attended an all-girls catholic school.
The Catholic School: No AP classes, but plenty of honors. Not quite as many options.
The Public School: Tons of APs, ranked by Newsweek as one of the top high schools in the nation.
Also, if I go to the Catholic school I will have to drop one of the languages I am taking (German and Spanish) and take theology.
Normally, I would think the answer was clearly the public school. However, I hear that colleges are more likely to admit Catholic school students because the curriculum at Catholic high schools is harder. Is this true? And which should I choose?
Interesting choice. Even though you may have an idea of what to major in, your choice will likely change as you grow as a student over the next four years.
Honestly, AP classes count a great deal, and national rankings count even more - if you're trying to get into a highly competitive school (especially a Public Ivy like Michigan or Illinois). Then again, what counts about the AP isn't the class but the test. You can take an AP or CLEP test regardless of what high school you attend.
I went to a Blue Ribbon public school that sent several graduating seniors to the Ivy League every year. I chose a small, public midwestern liberal arts school (it's had pros and cons).
If you're looking at Catholic universities, I don't want to say they give preference to Catholic high schools, but you'd have to take theology there anyway.
Now that I've thought out loud, I'd say go with the public school - especially if you plan on using your language background and want to test out of some of your freshman year. This will help you save up some money for college, as well as give you a greater breadth of electives.
One of the reasons so many of my public school classmates got into top research schools (Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Bradley) is because they took microbiology as a lab science and a second semester of calculus - neither of which were offered by the smaller Catholic school because they didn't have the critical size to support the courses.
Good luck!

I'm switching to a girls Catholic school in january from a regular school. Just wondering how different it is and in what ways.
its different because we wear uniforms
theres only girls (if you go to an all girls school like me)
a TON of homework =[
not really a huge difference though i think it all just depends on
wat type of school you are going to go to.
Hello, my husband is Catholic and we are considering sending our child to private Catholic school when he is old enough to attend. Does anyone have any idea of how much it costs now ? We live in California in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Thanks !
It depends on the school. If you check their websites out, they will sometimes have the tuition costs listed. Also, ask if you qualify for scholarships!
I know students wear uniforms but I'm looking to get a teaching job (high school chemistry) and do not have my NJ teaching certification and I know you don't need to be certified to teach at Catholic School. Do the teachers wear uniforms as well? Does it differ school to school? This may be a silly question but I grew up and went to public schools and so did my family!
Just wondering, thanks!
Some schools do require unifroms and some don't, as you said, it depends on the school. If you don't get to wear a uniform I suggest you go always start with black clothes and combine them with colors like grey / white or any other neutral color, nothing to flashy. If you feel like adding color always wear it under a black sweter so that the collar of the shirt, blouse is the one thing in color showing Always be conservative and formal, long skirts, pants, low heels,up to the neck shirts/blouse, small earing, natural make-up (some base and a pale shade of lipstick OR gloss that kind of stuff and you'll be safe.
