Monsignor Georges Henri Joseph Édouard Lemaître (July 17, 1894 – June 20, 1966) was a Belgian Roman Catholic priest, honorary prelate, professor of physics and astronomer at the Catholic University of Leuven. He sometimes used the title Abbé or Monseigneur.

Lemaître proposed what became known as the Big Bang theory of the origin of the Universe, which he called his 'hypothesis of the primeval atom'.[1][2]

I don't think he PROPOSED it -- he just came up with the name, in an attempt to mock this counter to the "steady state" model of the Universe.

civil engineer, Lemaître served as an artillery officer in the Belgian Army during World War I. After the war he entered a seminary and in 1923 was ORDAINED AS A PRIEST. He studied at the University of Cambridge’s solar physics laboratory (1923–24) and then at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge (1925–27), where he became acquainted with the findings of the American astronomers Edwin P. Hubble and Harlow Shapley on the expanding universe. In 1927, the year he became professor of astrophysics at the Catholic University of Leuven (Louvain), he proposed his big-bang theory, which explained the recession of the galaxies within the framework of Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Although expanding models of the universe had been considered earlier, notably by the Dutch astronomer Willem de Sitter, Lemaître’s theory, as modified by George Gamow, has become the leading theory of cosmology.

attended a Church of England school.[1] With the aim of becoming a clergyman he went to the University of Cambridge for the required BA degree, which included studies of Anglican theology. He took great interest in natural history and become filled with zeal for science as defined by John Herschel, based on the natural theology of William Paley which presented the argument from divine design in nature to explain adaptation as God acting through laws of nature.

i was actually referring to creation scientists. my mistake. i meant creation scientists not mere creationists.
Francis Collins was not a creationist he was a theistic evolutionist.

In his 2006 book The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief, Collins considers scientific discoveries an "opportunity to worship." In his book Collins examines and subsequently rejects creationism and intelligent design. His own belief system is theistic evolution which he prefers to term BioLogos. Collins appeared in December 2006 on The Colbert Report television show[18] and in a March 2007 Fresh Air radio interview[19] to discuss this book.

christians, was Georges Lemaître wrong?

Georges Lemaître (July 17, 1894 – June 20, 1966) was a Belgian Roman Catholic priest, honorary prelate, professor of physics and astronomer at the Catholic University of Leuven. He sometimes used the title Abbé or Monseigneur.

Lemaître proposed what became known as the Big Bang theory of the origin of the Universe, which he called his 'hypothesis of the primeval atom'.

Lemaître was a pioneer in applying Einstein's theory of general relativity to cosmology. In a 1927 article that preceded Hubble's landmark article by two years, Lemaître derived what became known as Hubble's law and proposed it as a generic phenomenon in relativistic cosmology. Lemaître also estimated the numerical value of the Hubble constant. However, the data used by Lemaître did not allow him to prove that there was an actual linear relation, which Hubble did two years later.

Einstein was skeptical of this paper. When Lemaître approached Einstein at the 1927 Solvay Conference, the latter pointed out that Alexander Friedmann had proposed a similar solution to Einstein's equations in 1922, implying that the radius of the universe increased over time. (Einstein had also criticized Friedmann's calculations, but withdrew his comments.) In 1931, Lemaître published an article in Nature setting out his theory of the "primeval atom."

Was Lemaître wrong? Certainly not.

At first, the Big Bang was dismissed by scientists as too religious. Oddly enough, today it is dismissed by biblical creationists.

Jacques Neirynck, a Christian Democrat, says paedophile priests ...

The Swiss Bishops Conference (SBC) may have held its hands up over the handling of paedophilia cases, but a Christian Democrat says leaders must take a harsher stance.

Jacques Neirynck, a parliamentarian with the centre-right party, argues religious perpetrators of such crimes should be reported to the civil justice authorities and expelled from the Church.

swissinfo.ch: These accusations are not new, but wasn’t anything done to prevent this from happening again?

    J. N.: On Palm Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI issued a letter in which he regretted the matter and asked for forgiveness. But that’s not what people are waiting for. They want the facts, action and especially a policy within the Church so that this does not happen again. We also know that the vast majority of child abuse cases occur within families. So there is no relationship between the two, at least proven. However, reading articles on the subject, public opinion ends up forming the equation that all priests are paedophiles and all paedophiles are priests. But these two propositions are completely false.
